    Governor's Tags

I like the idea...lots of money to protect and enhance habitat...one tag, come on. Look at it this way. There are ~25,000 elk tags given each year, right? at 83 bucks a pop, that's about 2 million dollars. I haven't kept up with the cost of the governers tag lately, but I'd guess in the ballpark of a half a million. That one tag generates a quarter of all the revenue the other tags given for the year generate. I say give two of the dang things per species...but we all know what increase in supply does? Maybe keep it at one.
  2. I taked to the wildlife manager in pinetop about this incident. The dude was not legal. Seems like the taxidermist called it in initially because he suspected a bullet hole...and it was. The guy also shot a big bull they found in his garage after they got a search warrant. He tried to say it was an Idaho bull, but all his pictures show arizona background. What brilliance! They confiscated the camera and had it dated by the manufacturer and found the camera was manufactured after the supposed hunt date. Anyway, I was told the dude is getting some jail time, along with his wife for withholding information, etc.

    more tapia news

This lady is unbeliveable! Her son is a molester, gets caught, she gets pissed at the "Government" for convicting him so she locks her gate...charges people to enter so she can donate to the "molester help fund", gets caught with counterfiet bills, while waiting for trial threatens someone with a deadly weapon...and gets a year? I guarantee any "normal" citizen would have gotten alot more than a year for counterfiet and endangering another human life with a deadly weapon. Where's the justice for us? Nobody should have to put up with this crap anymore.

    Unit 1 Turkey

My wife has a unit 1 tag...We went opening weekend, got snowed out and the wind dang near blew us off the hill. We did locate one tom just before dark Friday evening and got up on him Sat morning, but he must have had a nice harem because he was definitely not interested in what we had to offer. We left Sat noontime. I would assume the rest of the weekend was great hunting. The weather turned very nice...I'd try just above Springerville toward big Lake in the ponderosas. Let us know how it goes.

    stupid AZGFD

I told you so...G&F is beginning to sound more and more like a bunch of hippies. They're more worried about the condors and lilly leapers. Do they not understand the concept of "tag and lisence fees"!!! If they allow predators to increase, HELLLOOOOO!!! Less tag and license sales due to predation. This influx of California fruits and nuts isn't helping either. They already screwed up cali, now they want AZ!

    Any Draw Nees

They usually come out mid-april on-line. There are "proposed" regs already published on the G&F website. It does include the 10 day first hunt. I can;t beleive they are going to do that. Anyway..."Quien necesita las reglas? Vamos a Mexico!" I'll be your interpreter if you buy my tag

    Hunting and College

Go hippie hunting. I went to NAU and saw lots of them. No, seriously, there should be no shortage of opportunities. The coyotes and lions are thick...take a few out. You'll have to draw for large game. Not much for small game in the area. I enjoyed just being out there with the game (elk, deer, etc.), filming, watching, etc.
  10. Tapia was charging a fee. I'm not sure if anyone took her up on the offer? She said she would donate all the money to a molestor fund or something to that effect. If we take away her "right" to charge a fee, she might give in and open up the gate...but I really doubt it. She'll probably keep it closed because she can, or should I say because she gets away with it!
  11. S1488: HUNTERS CROSSING PRIVATE PROPERTY It's about time. Sad though, how is Tapia going to get her son out of the slammer?
  12. Authorities kill 200 coyotes after complaints from ranchers Over the last three weeks, federal authorities have killed 200 coyotes in southeast Arizona after ranchers complained that the predators were eating calves. The hunting, which wrapped up Friday, was conducted from aircraft as part of a program run by the US Department of Agriculture. It took place on private and public land used by 10 to 15 ranchers in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties. Environmentalists were upset that the government gave no advance public notice of the latest shootings, which they call inhumane and ineffective. Teresa Howes, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, says the agency doesn't issue news releases on this activity "because we do work for private owners." She says ranchers pay the aerial program's entire 200-dollars-an-hour cost, for renting aircraft and for staff time. No documentation was available Friday of how many calves coyotes had killed, but Howes says the federal program has confirmed calf losses due to coyotes in southeast Arizona.
  13. Good Crap, sounds like the good ol' governer has appointed a tree hugger as commissioner. I'm not saying she is, but by reading the biography it sure sounds like she is more for frogs and condors than elk and deer??? I'd like to know how many hunting and fishing licenses she has bought over the past five years. The last part of the article says she will protect hunting and fishing...? What do you think? Can someone please tell me she is not a hippie. Read this: Governor Napolitano appoints new Game and Fish commissioner PHOENIX - Governor Napolitano has announced her appointment of Jennifer Martin of Phoenix as the new commissioner of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. She will replace W. Hays Gilstrap, pending Senate confirmation. Martin graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in biology and specializes in wildlife management. She has previously worked with the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Conference and the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. She is also a former Game and Fish Department employee. Martin also previously served in the Peace Corps and has used her biology background to draft the National Bird Program Strategic Plan for the federal Bureau of Land Management. In addition to her scientific background in wildlife management, Martin is noted for her strong respect for fishing and hunting, and her strong desire to keep hunting open for all who wish to hunt.

    Whitetail or coues

Muley tastes like carp, hence the nickname... Actually, I can't tell the difference. It's all in how the meat is handled, processed, aged and prepared. I've had some piss poor coues that was probably comparable to skunk butt, and muley that was better than any other meat I have ever eaten...Take it or leave it.
  15. I took the professor's class that claims to know everything about the dogs. He has some rusian or czec last name. Anyway, Rembrant, I lived in Flag for 2 years. Don't get me wrong when I stereotype flag people, but you gotta admit, it's the hippie capitol, just short of woodstock.

G&F has been introducing them back into their natural range. A buddy of mine found some in the Galiuros, and I have seen them on Mt Graham a few times in the past two years. There is info on the G&F website. Find the link on the right side of the page.
  17. Alright, alright. We'll give her a chance. It's just that I hear phrases like peace corps, National Bird Program Strategic Plan and Flagstaff and I think hippie. Doesn't sound like hunting to me. No offense to any of you that have contributed to those programs. Anyway, I guess they can say what they want in a press release. Do we ever get any truth in a press release related to a political move? let's just see what happens. There's nothing we can do at this point...
  18. I have seen section after section being developed over the last few years in my old stompin grounds. Houses going in where I used to hunt deer. It's getting absolutley ridiculous. I was out huntin' pigs last weekend with my dad, and we counted over 6 miles of county road that has nothing but locked gates. Just .25 miles behind the gates are public lands, but no way to get to it. Not even foot traffic is allowed which is a crock of crap. Private landowners are obligated to give "resonable access" to landlocked public lands according to state law. Where are the G&F access people? Where's the FS and BLM? Why should I get reamed by a rancher because I tried to cross an unmarked portion of his private land to get to "public lands" which are landlocked by this freakin wheener? I'm getting tired of this access issue, and I'm dang near tot he point of going to 2222W Greenfield Rd in Phx and throwing a tyrate until someone gets something done with this access BS. We all need to throw fits to the local govts, including, but not limited to the G&F, FS, BLM, county board of supervisors, etc. If the private lands I see (not including the hundereds of thousands elsewhere) are developed with homes, we might as well hang it up. It's hard enough to get access now. If we wait for another five or ten years to take action, we'll all be limited to road hunting off the highway right of way. We need to get it through the thick skulls of the landowners that 40 acres of private land at an access point doesn't create a reason to lock up 10,000 public acres. We also need to get through the thick skulls of gov't officials two words....D-10 cat. Blade around these inconciderate private landowners!!! just my two pennies. Is anyone with me?

    New Coues Hunting DVD

Four of the hunts are Mexico, the rest in Az.
  20. Yes, I'm a member of the club. I'm hoping this will be one of the club's pushes in the next year or so.
  21. Wrong, please look at a forest service map or BLM map, and you will see that Diablo is on both State and forest land. The access through Chavez siding is a public access and will remain open. The access through the Sopri Ranch has been closed <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Make sure the state land hasn't been sold...It's selling like hotcakes. Not sure if it is selling in that area, but near Phx, etc, it's going fast. State lands department is dang near hiring an inhouse auctioneer!
  22. I guess where I want to go with this is to see what options we have to get the g&f, BLM, FS, etc involved and get us access. I know of several EA's (environmental assesements) that have been completed for the sole purpose of blading around private lands, but nothing has happened. These agencies so gunshy worried they might piss off a landowner they won't take the necessary steps to get 'er done. So what if the agencies piss off a landowner or two by blading around them...It serves them right for not providing access to landlocked public lands. Besides that, there's a whole lot more pissed off hunters, hikers and campers than pissed ranchers. It's time to squeek our wheels. It is our right to have access to public lands. Yeah, those same lands I pay tax dollars to the DOI, etc to manage. If we are vocal enough, the agencies will do what it takes to shut us up. Let's quit paying for access with hertitage funds and get our own dang access! I'll do my part, and I am writing a letter of concern tonight and it will be mailed to each and every interested party involved. Call these agencies, ask questions, let's bug the crap out fo them until they give us what we want. Who's with me?

  24. You know dang good and well those frog watchers are being paid by the tag, license, and application fees. It's a freakin scandal. I believe we are getting too many dungbeetle-n-lillyleaper people in the G&F. GAME AND FISH!!!! READ MY LIPS G&F!!!! It's not the NON-"GAME" and ENDANGERED "FISH". Let the USFWS, heritage fund, tax payers pay for those studies. We ALL live here in AZ, not just the hunters.
