I agree it was a tuff hunt at best. I call it paying your dues. I don't mean to sound disrespectfull. sorry for the bad time. don't sell your stuff. time for a rebound hunt. you got to have time to eat the apple cobbler try to enjoy yourself no matter what happens. we put to much pressure on ourselfs sometimes got to smell the roses.

I could be wrong so correct me. We had the coolest june on record followed by the hottest july and like the 3rd driest monsoon on record, august was extemaly hot and dry. all of this plays a part in the rut. WEATHER is everything in my opinion when it comes to elk rutting..I would like to see a wet moonson followed by a break in the heat come sept. then I think the rut will be good. The best rut hunt I have seen have been 03-04 and we had a good monsoon and a cool down in sept.

so much truth to that its unreal. I cant belive the guys that call non stop you think they would get the clue.

I know what you mean about the blinds on water holes, I am real tempted to start throwing them dang things into the water hole. we had a dumb butt that thought the same thing. this is getting out of hard. I thought everyone knew the rules first come first serve. but we have conflict still. the next conflict I have over water thats what I will do. in the water with there blind.

I feel you pain. I have learned that lets say there are 100 tags for elk in any given area. you have about 30 hunters that have done there homework and know how the game is played, you have about 30 that want to play the game just lack the expeirence, no problem. then you have 40 that are clueless and you just can't figure out what they are thinking. but that is public land hunting. nothing you can do to predict what will happen you just have to be flexible.

Sunday morning I heard quite a bit after the rain storm we had on saturday it was nice and cool. not a sound this morning. not looking good.

I have not seen the north counrty as dry as it is right now in all the years that I have been going. 5bs is bone dry. let it rain.

I am going to say 375ish. I don't think his 3rds are weak they are just shorter than those other points. I am thinking 14" 3rds or so. I wouldn't think twice about about arrow launched.

I have been hunting in this great state since I was old enough to legally hunt. I lived for hunting. The past few years I haven't enjoyed it like I used to. I don't know why? I have had a good run of luck with hunting the last few years I have filled my tags when I was not even trying."Dumb luck" I wanted the guys that I go with to have success rather than me. I don't know what is wrong. I need to find a way to build the hunting fire again. Is this something that has happened to anyone?

I have a remmington 870 express magnum that is a 12ga, it can shoot 3" magnum loads, Its a 9 out of 10 as far as condition, it has a wood stock with mate finish on the vent rib barrel. If I had to guess less than 100 rounds thru the gun. $320 obo.

the tree people are doing this everywhere. 5a has some every year in the same area, it don't seem to effect the elk in that area though. Calling does work sometimes when its "right" but if its not right quit calling cause they aint comming.
