    trying to figure this out

Well I ordered the scope ring lap kit. Its amazing the problems you find you you start messing with things,I had luepold bases and rings when I checked them they all seemed tight till I started lapping the rings. the base adjustments became loose "Problem found" because the screws were tight but the rear ring was loose. The dove tail on the rings were not true and would not hold even when the screw was tight this was only a slight movement a couple of thousands when measuring with a mag base but you could still feel a slight movement, I tried to see if I could do anything with them and realized that I cannot trust these rings bases anymore,Hunting equipment gets only one chance with me then it gets replaced with something I can trust. To cabelas I come they had some Warne rings and bases that looked solid so I bought them and installed them. then I did some lapping the qauilty seemed good the lapping showed that they are at least square the "wear" from the lapping was even and didn't require a lot to make them true. I might have "jumped the gun" sending the scope to luepold but at least they can check it to make sure. I am sure they have ways to check a scope... pretty sure i found the problem.I am going to call them and ask If there is a charge for my own mistake for there rings and bases.

    Leupold Scopes

I have the kenton ind custom turret and its dead on I have tested this out to 500yrds I can go to 800yrds I believe it depends on caliber. fits the coin slot on the leupold scope. Highly recommend it. Don't know about the luepold version though. The one from luepold has you send them your scope and they install it for you. The kenton version you tell them all your specs and they send you a dial they are easy to put on and take off.

    trying to figure this out

Just pulled the scope off and its on the way to leupold. Might as well order that timmey trigger while its down for maintenance and do a few other things...With a box of ammo at 50.00 I am not going to try and TRY differant things just going to attack everything. It only costs 10 bucks to send the scope. What does it mean to "lap" the rings? how would you do this. I have heard the term just don't know what it means.

    trying to figure this out

I am leaning toward the scope. I spent top dollar on this thing thinking it would be good. I have a frind that had the same scope and it would not hold a zero at all worse than mine but still the same issue just worse. He thought it was the him not being able to shoot the gun but after all it was the scope causing all his problems.

    Unit 1, 27, 29, 35a, 36b Hunt closure

When it comes to a federal agency most of the time you can't expect any common sense. This trend is getting worse everwhere you look though.

  17. sorry for the hijack....I think its to ealry to tell for sure what needs to be done. When the moonson comes in the rain will wash out lots of roads and the like who at this point knows what will happen. I pedict the f/s will close down lots of country to camping who knows maybe even access all toghter. I think the forest service should allow the harvest of the burnt trees, They want that, but the greenies wont allow it. Camping is going to be an issue, who knows how this will play out yet.But if it does you could have a gold mine of elk all to yourself because of that.or it could be a nightmare. Not real sure on how to awnser your question though, to early to tell.

    Wallow Fire Poem

    truth
  19. Thats sickening.....I heard about the plans to harvest the burnt trees and the lawsuit to stop it. makes me sick. the general public don't know anything about any of this stuff I bet.
  20. I wonder how many people in general public know about the lawsuit money these enviro groups get from the fed. I didn't know that, I bet lots of people don't know this. It would be good to try and change this arrangement they get from us taxpayers. It makes these groups even more chicken sh!t than they already are.
  21. Back when the rodeo fire was buring all the talk about forest management came up then also. The tree huggers are so stupid they can't even learn from past fires that this current mindset on forest management just don't work. They just don't get it,, never will. I am with you on the lawyer fees these idiots have nothing to loose when it comes to lawsuits. they are not held accountable. This situation is just like the wolf, spotted owl B/S that we have to deal with.It all ties in togther.
  22. I think there is a percentage of area that did not burn as hot and servere as some areas "hopefully" most of the wallow fire area, I pray that this fire will show as a positive in a few years, I think the rodeo fire did good things for the wildlife in the area. Its ashamed we can't have some common sense forest management that when fires happen its looked at like a good thing low intensity fire that burns underbrush and the like, not these fire breathing monsters that we have now. As far as the elk hunt, I would pray for lots of rain between now and then. I think that will be the biggest factor on how good or bad the hunt will be. I think the elk will be easy to find this year, they will be more grouped up in the areas that might not have burned as bad. I do know a guy that had a tag in 3A 3C the year after the fire, He had a good hunt and killed a real good bull, followed by a good mule deer buck. the deer herd has come back strong, so he says. he lives in heber. I think you will still have a good hunt. Those honey holes that you like might be gone for a while though. pray for rain. Good luck.

    Looking at 5th wheels

The problem with flipping the axles is that it gives more leverage on the frame thus bending the frame I just helped out a buddy that had this same issue so be careful. I have to agree that bigger is not always better, They can be a real pain to find a spot to camp in the dark. you have to know plan "A" plan "B" etc cause someone can be there already.

    Wallow Fire

I think I will have to agree with you on the above. You can't fix stupid. We saw that the weather was going to be windy and very low humidty. It was hard to believe that you could legally still have a fire. This was something that was forecast for days before the big weekend, It was no surprise that these fires are breaking out. The loging part is something that I can't understand no matter how deep in thought I try to think about it. on the flip side some fires are a good thing and hopefully this could be a positive thing. Treehugers want us out of the forest completely no matter what, I don't think this was a treehuger move, just a dumb move from our wonderful goverment.
