  1. I was out scouting in unit 31 in blm land north of klondyke road and my atv slid off the road climbing out of a canyon. If anyone has experience/skills in pulling out atvs, or knows anyone in Safford with a side by side and a tow cable let me know. Please send me a text or call if you are available. Joe 928-853-5774

Need help, atv slid off the road

Got back in there with some cables ropes pulleys and got her back on the road last Friday, was a long day. Very grateful to my crew of ATV extractors. It was in an area that a truck couldn't get into. Will have to think carefully about the places I go into alone next time. Happy hunting everyone.
  3. I guess everyone enjoys some shade in the pines...

    Kaibab turkey

Well I had a week off in October and thought leftover turkey tags would be a good reason to go learn the kaibab better. Anyone heading up there and want to share a camp? Send me a PM. Still 300 or so tags left... Joe
  5. Making a big move! Just accepted a job in Anchorage, Alaska. Winters are going to be cold, but hey grizzly, goat, sheep, moose, wolf, caribou, sitka deer trips will help me get through it. So right now I have my trusty 270 as my only rifle. What additional rifle do you recommend I purchase? I would feel undergunned if a grizzly makes trouble. I hear a lot about 375 H&H, are others better? Appreciate your advice. Joe

    36b question

Anyone know how the antelope are doing down by Sasabe? I haven't hunted down there for ten years but used to see some decent bucks on the refuge. I kept expecting to see a tag one of these years.

    36b question

170 antelope down to 30, that doesn't sound good. I googled sasabe and antelope and came across this unrelated coues hunt on youtube. I would hire those guys as my guides only if they let me drink out of the magic flask before shooting. Anyone able to translate the spanish? Casey?
  8. I like how the reflections turned out. Any guesses where?

Guess where I took this pic

You are right Lee's Ferry. I was working in Tuba City last May and this was one of the areas we frequented on our time off. No fishing, our 6 month baby adjusted our priorities. Hanging out there really makes you want to raft the Grand Canyon. We did hike a mile or so upstream and saw the remains of the sunken ferry, ore processor etc. I guess you can take a boat nearly up to the dam. I was thinking it might be a fun trip to drop a kayak in below Glenn Canyon Dam with a bow during archery season and float and shoot a Colorado River muley. I think it is 12B on the north side and Navajo Nation on the south. Has anyone seen wildlife along that stretch? There must be deer and sheep in there, I have seen them further down stream in the canyon. I wonder if the continuous boat traffic might make it lousy hunting, maybe early morning midweek.

    A few questions

Nicholas was asking when he could take hunter's ed? He is new to coues hunting, does anyone have any general areas in 36C (no honey holes) that he could scout. He wants a recommendation on a huntin rifle without too much recoil for a 5 day old. He also wants to put in for bonus points on sheep and speedgoat so he can get drawn before his hip goes bad. Also, he had some questions on salt, people who steal tree cams, ATVs, lions...

    Not timid

The ranger was sitting in the shade when the sheep walked up and decided she needed some shade too.

    Deer & Cattle

Lark you are wrong!!!! ....go back next year and take a photo of the same place, it will most likely be a mirror image. grass on the other side, no grass on the grassy side.... cause the grassy side is national park, you can see that line from 10 miles away from the middle of Tucson

    Happy Canada Day (July 1)

My wife and I were in a celebratin' mood and decided to spend a 5 day weekend up in British Columbia enjoying the countryside. We were up there during one of their "sunbreaks" and were able to get out and hike into some beautiful areas. Every night we would glass the hillsides/skislopes behind our hotel. We saw as many as 7 different bears per evening, as few as 2. I did not bring my tripod, but was able to sneak up on a few and get a few long distance shots by balancing the binocs on a post. The last shot shows the aerial view of 2 bears feeding below the ski lift. Only two more years before I return to Arizona from Oregon. I miss those mornings glassing for coues. Good luck to everyone on the fall hunts, I am jealous... On the bright side, I'm hunting for Roosevelt elk and blacktails this fall, with a Snake River Canyon muley hunt as well. Now if I can find some spare change in the couch to get one of them British Columbia bear hunts.

    Windy day gone bad

Found this on the internet... I bet a proposed chainsaw/tree tag would be classified as limited opportunity.

    Congratulations

I don’t post that often so I have a couple of things to say… 1. First off great website, thanks Amanda. 2. Buy my home: I moved to Oregon in June and I am tired of making payments on an empty house. It’s a 3 bedroom 2 bath house convenient to great coues units 33, 34A, 36C…. If you are interested check out photos on Zillow.com address is 3407 E. Linden St. Tucson, AZ 85716 3. Since I will be in Oregon for 3 years, anyone want to chat about blacktails, or Roosevelt elk, I would love to get one while I am temporarily away from coues habitat. Tell me all of your secret spots. Yes this is blatant E-scouting, I want GPS coordinates. 4. My buddy Kevin shot his first antelope this weekend. He hiked in 2 miles to his secret antelope hotspot 2 hours before dawn or maybe 2 hours after dawn. He saw a lone antelope feeding in a basin about 500 yards away. He snuck in to 60 yards and was able to fling an arrow towards the lope. After a shot through the lungs, it ran over the next ridge. There was no blood trail and he couldn’t find the arrow, but he swore it was a good shot. After an hour of searching he called in a ground crew to help look. One of his neighbors found it 50 yards from where he had shot it, it did the famous double back behind the ridge and hide under a bush trick. He wouldn’t tell me what unit he was in, but from the picture I think we all realize he was shot off of a Yuma golf course. 5. He is now up deer hunting until Thursday since he took all week off for the antelope hunt, what a rough life. 6. In summary buy my house.

    Bears in 33

Glassed one up in the pears east of colossal cave about 5 years ago. A buddy of mine scared one off of his December coues gutpile out in happy valley. They used to frequent the grease trap outside the dining hall of the boy scout camp up top. I wonder how many they "removed" after the girl was mauled a while back. Sounds like a tough hunt, I hope you find one.
