My understanding was that baiting was done away with because one of the board members did not like it and proposed to do away with with it and it passed. ( I have no facts to back this up, just word of mouth) If people keep bringing up deer baiting I am sure a similar thing will happen and hunter will not be able to choose that option anymore. People need to quit discussing this in public forums.

Flagstaff area CWT get together BBQ!
Traveler replied to Lance's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Jacob and I walked around whats left about 7:30 saturday morning. We saw no signs of life, it looked like the weeds were getting pretty high, but the water temp seemed fine. Later Dan -
Have not tried the new Liberty. Did you compare it to the Bowtech Guardian? I liked how the Guardian shot, but wanted something a little smoother draw.

I figured breakfast would be over around 10. Figured most people would be gone by noon. ? I think you are right most people will be off shooting, fishing or whatever right after breakfast (or before). Dan -
Cool video Thanks for taking the time to post it! We sure had lots of night visitors this year on our fishing trips out there. Dan

Lance, Thanks for putting this together!!! Trying to clear the calendar so we can make it. Is it worth the hassle of bringing a boat for fishing? I have a 14" tin can. Thanks Dan -

2006 Archery Sights- Which one is your favorite?
Traveler replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Good posts on replacing and extenting the fiber. Many of the sight mfg use fiber that is not as bright as others. You can really see the difference if you go to archery shop and see them side by side. Good shopping Dan -
I am an ACC fan. Tough to beat. While some of the better all carbon arrows are comparible to ACCs as far as straightness, most serious target guys reject 1-3 of the carbon arrows per dozen because the spine is inconsistent. Most average shooters won't identify the inconsistent arrow(s). My fear that is the one I would use for the shot at an animal near my maximum range would be the one that has a different spine and potentially cause a poor hit. That is why I spend the extra $$$. I have shot the Blackhawk version of an ACC. They do not have as good of a finish on them, so they stick in targets and get residue on them easier, other than that I cannot tell the difference. For hunting only I would consider going with the Blackhawks. For all around shooting I stick with ACCs.

Always a great event. If I am back from vacation I will be there. My son is now big enough (8) to shoot fairly consistently so I am really excited to hit more shoots with him. Dan

AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest
Traveler replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think pushing archery to a draw would be total hypocrisy considering everything they are trying to do this year is to create "Opportunity" Now if they want a to create few Trophy draw units, great so be it. Let see the Management plan. I would love to see them restore the Kaibab to the point it would be better than CO is. The decision to reduce the does hunts some more is probably a good start. Bobbyo- Thanks for the response Good Luck to all this year in the draw. Dan -
AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest
Traveler replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
BobbyO - What is your basis for this statement? "Lets be truthful, a significant % of hunters take advantage of the situation and really harvest two deer a year." This is not helping our cause if you basing this on the rumors of a few renegades who poach when they get two tags. The odds of someone drawing a rifle a tag and successfully filling that and an archery is very low even if they try. 30% Rifle Average Draw Odds 30% Rifle Success Rate 15% Archery Success Rate I am not a mathmetician but I think this works out to about 1.3% At this level they should allow it for the increased revenue alone!!!. If you move the success % up to 50% Rifle Average Draw Odds 50% Rifle Success Rate 25% Archery Success Rate It comes out to 6.25% Not what I would call "a significant % of hunters" Now if you add in what % of Archers actually try this it is reduced by another factor. Not trying to flame just looking for some basis of fact. -
Good on you for going back out and trying to find him again! The only argument I have from the other posts is where others stated that this part of BOWhunting. It is part of HUNTING period. The difference is most bowhunters are close enough to know they actually wounded the animal. There was an extensive study done in Minnesota that confirmed deer wounding rates were very similiar between rifle/shotgun and archery hunters (Around 10% for both, with lethal wounds a lower percent). They had an elaborate research program that included using a military helicopter with heat sensors and other cool technology. Good Hunting to all Dan
