Looking for starter spots around Roswell

Once you get there you'll see antelope and plenty of them. There's always a really nice buck or two that wont leave city limits. I used to spend a week in Roswell every 6 weeks for work and glassed a lot of antelope in the evenings when I got bored. Lots of shooters at that time 70"+. Good luck....

    Bugles in July

i hope you're kidding? Not kidding. They make a high pitched sound like a young bull. Not as long winded as a bull, but in the early spring and summer they most definitely bugle....

    Spot Hogg customer service

Just wanted to pass along my first ever dealings with spot hogg's customer service. I will be using my SDP sight this year and after nearly a year of not using it, I found the pins to be a bit dull, banged up and otherwise tough to use. The sight is roughly 5 years old and has been on many, many hunts. I contacted spot hogg fully expecting the price to be reflective of a new sight. "$10 to replace the pins" is what I was told. I custom ordered different sizes and different colors per pin. I mailed it to the saturday the 27th and received it Thursday the 2nd. All pins are new. All fiber optics new. Clear plastic wrap guard is new. $10 + shipping is all I paid. Great company. Fast turn around time Quality refurbish CHEAP :D I would highly recommend spot hogg to anyone looking for a high quality hunting sight. Been using them for nearly 15 years.

    Who here likes to catfish??

I've caught 90% of mine on green ear sunfish. They are soft compared to bluegill and the flatheads seem to prefer them. Small carp are awesome, but difficult to catch. You do know there is not such thing as a green eared sunfish right? I use all panfish, green sunfish, bluegill, redear, tilapia, etc. Anything that is legal. I've found Tilapia to be the best on the lower river were they are legal. I grew up fishing Oklahoma waters on summer break. Half the folks call them green ear sunfish half call them green sunfish. Same as some folks calling a 10pt coues a 4x4. Didn't think to get too technical...I've landed more than 60 over 20 lbs on "green ears" while only 2 on bluegill so I wanted to pass along that tip. Op: What early tag did you draw?

    Who here likes to catfish??

I love flathead fishing! Best I've caught with a rod and reel is 28 lbs. Seems I cannot reach the 30lb mark as I have landed several at tho size. Noodling is a different story. I have landed 2 over 60 lbs in Oklahoma using my hands. That's a big fish๐Ÿ˜‰

Time for a new tuck Diesel or Gas

I have been perplexed with this same dilemma for nearly 4 years now and it has hindered me nearly incapable of making the decision. One of the main factors for me was the amount of things I have replaced on my 2004 1/2 ton dodge ram. Tranny, rear end, both axles and the front end on multiple occassions. Here is a quick snapshot to why I am going to purchase a 3/4 ton diesel and not another 1/2 gas. It's not all the factors I took into consideration, only a few: Fuel cost / Maintenance / Longevity / Options: I drive 19k miles each year. I pull my trailer 2k miles of those each year. * The fuel cost actually sides in the favor of the diesel by $83 due to the towing mileage (based off $2.60 avg gas / $2.90 avg diesel) * 5 oil changes throughout the year favor the gas motor by $415. * 1/2 ton = $11, 800 in repairs (see above for a portion of what I have replaced on my 1/2 ton) * 3/4 ton = $3k for a tranny. I don't believe anything else I have replaced would be needed on a heavier built truck like the 3/4 so the diesel gets the nod by $8000. * I don't know what I will own or want to do in the next 10 years. With a 1/2 ton, I will be limited the same as the past 10 years. "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" * Diesel costs $8k more. In 10 years, when I sell it, it will basically hold the same value ($8k) more than the gas. I'm sure anyone can punch holes in my logic, but these were a few of my deciding factors. What scares me the most is where I live = no diesel mechanics. Good luck with your choice.

Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???

Adam - I understand what you're saying, my son had little to no desire at the time. Not all kids have a burning desire to hunt when they are young, but they develop it over time. I'll tell you what I did.... Signed up for a 2 day class in Flagstaff. Made a father / son outing out of it. Wife not invited. We had a blow out driving there which was pretty cool to my son who was 10 at the time and got to help. We stayed at the hotel of his choosing and went out to eat to his choice of restaurant (red lobster). We went to the theater that night and saw a movie. We ate at Denny's for breakfast and studied while eating. He REALLY enjoyed the field day. A pain in the rear turned out to be a great memory.

simply....yes. The day in the classroom wasn't as bad as I thought. They will love the "in the field" day.
