    What's your guess?

Whale - that's definitely the same buck as your friend got on camera. Glad to see others get pics of him as well. He's a great buck for sure and everyone should see him. Seems like this was the year to get this deer as he showed up many times in the day, but unfortunately for personal reasons I was not able to hunt in Jan except with trail cameras. I got 70 pics of him as he came through 11 times during season. Last year he was a big broken up 8 pt. He made it through this January season, but he broke off that drop. Can't wait to see what he is next year. Hopefully, he is taken by a hunter so we can all admire him.

    My daughter does it again!!

HUGE congratulations to you Ana! Ernesto, I'm sure you're a proud papa. I loved the story and pics. Thanks a lot for sharing. Looks a lot like a side hill where my son and niece have killed javleina in 34a.

    Daily double

My son, Enrique, and I found a group of 10 pigs around 1pm this past Sat during the H.A.M. hunt. We had to wait them out on an opposite ridge until 2:15 for the wind to cooperated. Once the wind was steady we dropped down into the wash, removed our boots and started the stalk. My son (12) was unable to handle the thorns in his feet so I went on without him with hopes after shooting mine the herd would run down directly to him. 15 minutes later I shot my pig @ 12 yards quartering away. He died so fast the rest of the herd never spooked. I started walking around and eventually called down to my son to meet me on the ridgetop. While I sat ther barefoot removing cholla from my feet I called in a pig to 2 FEET and captured it all on video. Once Enrique arrived I showed him the footage and he said we get to get back on that herd. It didn't take long and we were on their trail. The first one I called into 17 yards, but never presented a shot for my boy. We trailed the herd and eventually wound up with a pig @ 15 yards slightly quartering away. That was all he needed as he placed a perfect arrow where it needed to be. This is Enrique's first bow kill. It's a great feeling when your kids are successful. Congrats to everyone who were successful this year - especially the youngsters.

    A quick prayer is needed

A tornado hit my family in Arkansas on New year's eve killing my grandmother and leaving my sister and her family (husband and 3 kids) homeless. Luckily, my sister and her family were here in Az visiting relatives for the holiday. They lost everything (material posessions) and unfortunately were under covered badly with their insurance. My Dad's farm is a mess and will require thousands of hrs to bring it back up to what is was. Please take a moment and say a quick prayer for my family. They need it. Thanks a lot, Wade

Don't do the online class. The best way if you don't want to spend the ridiculous amount of classroom time is to take a 1 day class with the following day in the field.

    How early.....is too late?

I agree with youngbuck. We head in at shooting light to a few of my areas in 22n because we have to travel right through a night time feeding area and there is always a chance one might be a little late getting to his core area for the day. If you are in country that elk don't use I set up at least 30 minutes before light so I'm ready.

    "SOLD"

I have a 1 year old Tikka t3 light in 7mm-08 I am selling with 2 boxes of federal premium ammo ($80), sling stix / claw sling ($50), extra high capacity magazine ($95), vortex 3x9 scope ($200). The stock has a few minor scratches from past hunts and the scope has some scratches as well, but overall very nice. Very accurate gun and a pleasure to shoot. I bought it for my son and he has taken several elk and javelina with it. I am not looking for trades as I need cash. Thanks for looking. $680 for everything.

    shoot through mess windows

A couple of things that I disagree with from previous posts that I have encountered after shooting a lot through my d.b. matrix: 1) your mesh does not need to be tight. It can be a little loose and you will not hinder broadhead flight. The double bull video explains this as well. 2) most mechanicals will shoot fine through the mesh. I have shot rocket steelheads and grim reapers and a couple others with no problems. I would not shoot a rage through the mesh.

    unit 21

+1 You can't shoot one if you sit out the hunt. You still have a lot of scouting time unless you're deer hunting in Jan.

    Possible new BILL!!!

There are quite a few long term negatives with only some short term positives for a few with this bill. This issue will go deeper than expected as most wanting the change only are visualizing the crust. The larger deeper issues are not being dealt with and will create problems for Nm in the future. Why do residents of any western state believe they have a "right" to a tag every year? There used to be OTC elk tags in Nm - right? there are reasons why they are no longer there - right? I've never been drawn for antelope in Az in my life - putting in every year for 17 of 18 years as a resident. I've been drawn for Az elk once in the past 16 years as a resident. Can very many Nm residents say the same? IMHO fight for what you believe is right and enjoy the outcome or suffer the consequences. Good luck to you guys in Nm this upcoming year

    Arizona Strip

Don't get frustrated and give up. You're almost there. Now with Google earth, internet and hard maps 75% of your scouting can be done in your living room on the computer and telephone. You live in New River. You're 7 hrs away - that's not that far! Plan your camping trips and vacations in 13b. Shoot out there Friday after work and sleep in your truck for the weekend (it's cheap scouting). Sorry if the family doesn't like it, but this is a once in a lifetime tag - be selfish! Spend tons of time online looking at threads regarding this unit and contact everyone you can for help that has been there. Admit now, you are not ready for this tag. So with that being said buy a point for this year and use this upcoming year to get yourself ready. Plan ahead and stick to your plan. Believe me guides are familiar with deer herds, but don't know of every buck in a unit and knowing OF a buck and killing it is completely different. No disrespect to any guides, but I prefer DIY. Do what makes you comfortable, but make a decision and stick to it. Learn the country, scout, due-diligence, find your buck, make the stalk, kill the buck - or - pay the guide to do all that for you (except sqeezing the trigger / release). Remember to save and extra $700 for the mount!
