Taking out my first youth hunter!
azpredator@work replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Youth Hunters
Sundevil brought up a good point. Make sure the eye relief on the scope fits the youngster and they put plenty of practice rounds through the rifle before heading out. Like others have said - patience, patience, patience. For me it has been very difficult taking my son, but very rewarding. Some tips to remember if your brother is pretty young: 1) Kids get cold easy - bring more clothes for them than you think you would need. I never bought a handwarmer until bringing my son. Now I buy them by the bulk. 2) Take along a ton of snacks. Seems like my boy would ask for something to eat or drink every 5 minutes. 3) Have him bring along something he can do in the middle of the day while you are glassing. They don't like to sit quietly for very long. -

I got my second bull last Sunday in New Mexico. It was on the second day. I shot him 15 minutes before nighttime. My dad called him to me and I shot him at 22 yards. I was really cold after I shot him and was shaking. It took us all night long to take the meat and head to the truck. We had to cross over real big mountains to get to the truck. We used night sticks that glow to have a trail to the truck. It died after only one shot. My first elk died after 7 shots. My dad had better bullets made this time for elk. I wanted to shoot a bigger one than my first but we didnt find a bigger one. I like this bull so I told my dad I wanted to shoot it. He said I could if I was happy with him. My dad didn't bring the video camera he bought for this hunt because he didnt think we could kill this bull. He was wrong. Now he's mad about that. "Kind of looks like it may be a father and son. Teaching your kid how to swipe other peoples stuff is always a great way to help them learn to be an ethical sportsman. POS is right!!! " +1 Thanks for posting their pics. Somebody has to know these guys. Sporting swaro's I'm sure they can afford their own dang cameras.

azpredator@work replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Elk Hunting
would gross around 350. The only thing weak on him was spread and main beam length. Awesome bull for sure. Thanks for sharing the video. Looks like the cameraman got the big bull jitters as well. -
very nice - congrats to you and your buddy. Thanks for sharing the story.
