  1. I just mounted my new Leupold Mk4 scope. Its the 4.5-18x52 mil, if that's relevant for these questions. Its FFP and, just out of the box and mounting it, I love it. Most of my scopes are FFP now, but it also got me to thinking and I'd love some sage perspectives. I get FFP being beneficial for keeping subtensions the same throughout the zoom range. I don't actually use the subtensions for anything after a friend got me onto using the Shooter App several years ago. 1) So here is my first question, how critical is FFP if you're using an app for all adjustments and not actually using the subtensions? What am I missing? I'm wondering if, as I move forward and consider replacing more scopes, how crucial FFP is if I'm just using an app for all my adjustments. Can I achieve the same thing with a SFP scope and save a bit of money, or is FFP that critical if I'm not relying on subtensions for any corrections or adjustments? 2) My new Leupold Mk4 is CDS compatible and I get a free dial after I submit the request with all of my data. Does anyone have any experience with Leupold CDS? Is is worth the effort? Any drawbacks?
  2. Our 2026 Gun Calendar raffle is back. We have 1000 calendars total. Calendars are $60 and you get a great NWTF calendar, an NWTF membership and a chance at winning a gun every week for 52 weeks. If you win one week, you're still entered for the remainder of the calendar year. Of the 1000 calendars, 500 are sold in Arizona, 300 are sold in New Mexico, and 200 calendars are sold in Colorado. The money from each calendar sale stays in the respective chapter's states. So all the money from the 500 calendars sold in Arizona stays in Arizona. I'm pretty sure its been 5 people that bought calendars at the Mountairre Tavern just south of Flagstaff have won so far off the 2025 calendars and I personally know at least five other locals who have won over the years, as well as a handful more of folks from the Mountainairre Tavern that have won since we started selling calendars. https://www.naznwtf.org/product-page/2026-gun-calendar-raffle

I've asked the same question to 4 different WMs and gotten 5 different answers before. Interpretation of some of the regs is all over the place. Some will tell you using your vehicle as a rifle rest is not considered using a vehicle in the aid of taking game, while others have a very strict interpretation that using your vehicle as a rest absolutely is considered using a vehicle in the taking of game. One thing I've gotten consistent answers regarding is picking up deadheads as long as there is no fresh meat/hide. Picking them up whitewashed or with obviously mummified fur/meat has always been ok with every WM I've ever spoken to.

    FS: RL 16

I have 2lbs of RL16 that I no longer need. One bottle is unopened and the other has probably 10 rounds worth of powder used. $60/bottle. F2F only. In Flagstaff. Will be in north Phoenix tomorrow (1/25) at Reach 11 Sports Park from about 10am-2pm. Can bring it with me if you can meet me there. Otherwise, I'll be traveling to Tucson and back Feb 13-15 (maybe 16th). $55/bottle or trade for unopened/barely used RL23 or RL26. Probably won't see replies tonight, so please PM me so I get email notifications to check early tomorrow. Leaving Flagstaff around 0730 tomorrow morning.

Definitely check Murphy's in Tucson. They were always good to me when we lived in Tucson and have been good to me when I've gone in powder shopping while visiting our daughter at UofA. And I forgot we have Rascals for the small kids in Hunter Ed up here in Flagstaff. We had a couple of Crickets (might still), but I never reach for them and make sure we're grabbing the Rascals.

I'll second this, unless you're really dead set on a Crickett. We got our daughter a very pretty, expensive Crickett when she was 6 or 7 years old. I didn't do enough research or asking around. I was just excited to get her her first rifle. It didn't take long to realize there were better options out there. I highly recommend looking at the Rascal.

Out of curiosity, can you repair broken/formerly functioning firearms? I have a Jennings J25 .25acp pistol that was my grandpa's. Its not worth much beyond sentimental value, but I'd love to have it working again if its not too crazy expensive. Reading up on them, it sounds like the sear going out is common. I have a single shot lever action .22 rifle that he used at his slaughter house in SE Iowa and a HR Topper (forget the model) I with 20g/.30-30 barrels that I want to get checked out and figure out how to restore the barrels (all blueing gone from being in the back of his truck).
