CWT First "Card Hit" Contest for Raffle Tickets
IA Born replied to rossislider's topic in The Campfire
July 8th, 0730! -
We got ours at the vet originally, but most pet stores have it. Its also online.
-
When we lived in Tucson, we had ticks out hiking and in our back yard, even when using Frontline Plus. I called the company and complained about what it advertised vs what happened and got the run around. Our vet back then suggested switching to K9 Advantix and it has worked great ever since. I also went and sprayed the crap out of the yard with a top quality bug killer (don't remember which one since it was about 12 years ago). That, along with K9 Advantix seemed to work great. Once a month application of the stuff. Its expensive, but it works great.

Brings back great memories and reminds me why I want to go back so badly!

Very nice! I've caught a small tarpon on my fly rod in Cancun, but snook and red fish are high priority targets, too!

Update. Our chapter is helping out another chapter with their cards, so there are currently about 40 cards left that need to be sold by July 24th. Come and get them!!!

Once again, the NWTF-AZ State Chapter has acquired one of the Commissioner's turkey tags to raffle off. Each NWTF chapter within the state has a deck of playing cards that are the raffle tickets. I'm coordinating selling our Northern Arizona Chapter cards with another committee member. I'll have to take stock of how many we have left, but its most of the deck. Cards are $20 each. If you are interested in buying one (or more), you can PM me and we'll get it worked out. If you want to write a check, but prepared for it to sit in an envelope for a while until we get all the cards sold and the drawing is held August 1, 2016 at the Sierra Vista Chapter's banquet. Otherwise, you can send cash or a check made out to me and I'll cash it and put the money in the envelope along with your card half. At the same time, I'll send you back your other half (halves) of the card(s) along with a flier for some authenticity. Below are the bullet points from the info document we're all sent. 2nd prize is a Savage Axis XP in .243 with a 3x9 scope. I'll also be at the youth turkey camp near Happy Jack this year if you are there and want to buy directly from me there. These went fairly quick last year and I'll be making this same post on a hunting forum back in my home state. Get your tickets soon! · YEAR LONG ARIZONA TURKEY TAG (AUG. 15, 2016-AUG. 14, 2017) · GOOD FOR EITHER GOULDS, MERRIAMS, or Rio Grande Turkey · GOOD IN ANY OPEN UNIT AS PRESCRIBED BY COMMISSION ORDER · WINNER MAY PRESCRIBE TO WHOM THE TAG IS ISSUED · 2ND PRIZE IS A SAVAGE AXIS XP .243 RIFLE W/3X9 SCOPE · ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THIS TAG GO TO AZGFD FOR TURKEY MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH · GOULDS TURKEY IS THE MOST DIFFICULT TURKEY TAG TO DRAW IN THE U.S. (FOUND ONLY IN SE ARIZONA AND SW NEW MEXICO) · ROYAL SLAM FOR WILD TURKEY INCLUDES THE EASTERN, OSCEOLA, RIO GRANDE, MERRIAMS, AND GOULDS TURKEY 2016 Poster.pdf

I don't know how I missed this until now, but you will be in our prayers from here on. I know the feeling all too well as my mom is back fighting lung cancer a second time. Cancer sucks, tumors suck, but God is AWESOME!
-
Awesome! Your reasoning is why I can't bring myself to get rid of my 20-yard pin and I've just been motivated to make it a 15-yard pin. Abso-freaking-lutely awesome! Thanks!
-
Back when I had a 4-pin sight (fixed) and was shooting a lower poundage (<70 lbs), I had 20-50 yard pins and it was great. When I upgraded to a new bow and had my poundage cranked up, I went with a 5-pin sight and, eventually, added a 6th pin. I quickly learned with a faster bow that my 20- and 30-yard pins were stacked with no room to move/adjust after setting my 20-yd pin, but I kept it. The last couple of years, I've wrestled with your exact question. I have no problem taking a 70 yard shot with plenty of practice, but I decided to keep my 20 yard pin just to keep me from being tempted by 80 yard shots. I ended up re-zeroing my sight so that my 30 yard pin is my primary pin and my 20-yard pin is "close enough" and not sitting right on top of my 30 yard pin. When I ever decide to go back to a family farm in Iowa, I'll readjust everything because most shots there are 30 yards or less.

being married sounds awful. Having your balls in your wife's purse sounds worse I think it is just called Respect. Good on ya Brian! Thanks, Mike! I wouldn't trade my marriage for the world and its all about respect for her. I know I'm not the only husband who discusses these things with his wife and I'm far from too proud to admit it. At the same time, the $300 I could spend on that rifle for very personal reasons will take away getting my son his elk/deer rifle and scope and potential taxidermy bills for my daughter's anticipated buck tag. No brainer on that one. A walk down memory lane isn't worth the memories I'll create with other investments. Good luck with the sale, OP!

You have no idea how badly I want this rifle! My grandpa and my dad each had one growing up. My dad's is long gone and I can't get the one that was my grandpa's! If only I could convince my wife this was a worthy investment!! Bump for a great piece to anyone's collection!
-
too late you already sold the winning card. Its going to look really funny and kind of shady when they call me, isn't it???
-
Time to bump this back up. We have 11 cards left in our deck here in Flagstaff. Let's get these sold and hope that one of you buy that winning card! Remember, ALL proceeds go back to turkey research. Tags are good for Merriams, Rio, and Goulds in open units, per Comm Order 29! Let's get these gone by July 24th for the drawing in early August!

Like all of you before, my dad is the one who instilled my love of the outdoors and why I chose a career in wildlife management/conservation. No matter how much we fought growing up, we always buried the hatchet fishing on the Des Moines River below Red Rock Dam. I don't remember who said it above, but if you still have your parents, cherish every minute. I lost my dad on April 10, 2004, just 15 days before my daughter was born. I miss him every day and I'm learning to be a dad with what I was taught, rather than being able to ask for advice now. After a good day of pheasant hunting in Iowa on a weekend home from college. Our last fishing trip together and the last time I saw him. Lake Tahoe, June 2003 I've learned to cherish every minute I get with my kids, whether we're out hunting, fishing, at Taekwando, or a soccer tournament. Sometimes, its as simple as sitting in the backyard having an Otter Pop! Of all the things I've done and continue to do, being a dad is, by far, the best thing I've ever done and the best job I've ever had. My family, especially my kids, drive me every day. Quail hunting last December with my daughter Taking my son archery deer hunting with me for the first time last August

I started my daughter off shooting these in 7mm-08 (120 gr) and she shot the snot out of them getting used to her rifle. The brake on her rifle helped even more. When I worked up hand loads using 140 gr Barnes TTSX, she couldn't tell the difference when it was go time. Like Lance said, too, though, I have my kids shoot my AR in .223 and even practice simple form with a .22 LR. Come hunting time, my daughter always says "What recoil?" when I ask her how her rifle kicked with her hunting loads.

Grandpa's Springfield 1917 rifle rebuild, maybe 6.5-06?
IA Born replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Based on the action, especially the safety, that's a 1917 Eddystone Enfield, made in Eddystone, PA. Those are rarer than 1903s. I'd definitely keep it as is and cherish the memories. I'm full out with Edge on this one. That's a classic. Sgt Alvin York carried an Edfystone in WWI when he earned his MOH. Great piece of American history. -
I thought it was during the youth hunt in November. That was my reasoning for having it as a third choice for my daughter. Granted, I don't expect her to get it as a third choice, but the youth camp in November is my recollection.

I almost forgot about these two jackets until I was moving stuff in the garage this weekend. I still have the two small-regular jackets. $40/each or package deal. Should be good for youth/small framed hunters this fall.
-
My brother in law recently gave me a bunch of his cold weather gear that he was issued in Afghanistan. He never needed it, so its never been worn. Everything but one jacket still has the tag on it. I don't need it, so I want to make someone a good deal. Jackets are cold weather parkas in desert camo. I currently have two jackets in each size, but trying to decide if I'm going to keep a pair for family or not. There are two pairs Polypro thermals (tops and bottoms), and an ECWCS Polartec fleece bibs bottom. ECWCS bibs were taken out of packge for photo only. Plastic on one pair of thermals was opened for verification of size. I did a quick search to see what they are selling for. Willing to ship, but buyer pays. Can deliver to valley next time I'm there for soccer (30 Jan and 19-20 Feb). Will consider package deal for buyer-takes-all. Jackets (Lg-reg and Sm-reg): $50/each. Ploypro thermals (Lg): $30/pair (2 pair) ECWCS Fleece bibs (Lg-sm/reg; 41-45" chest, up to 71" tall): $30

I can't believe nobody mentioned Taqueria Juanito's on Grant, just east of I-10. LOVED that place when we lived there. Magpie's has great local pizza, too. Too bad El Cubanito burned down. Great Cuban BBQ!

Did I win yet? As long as you believe, anything is possible. I had a really good response to that and then I realized it would put a Journey song in my head. I can't have that ear bug all day long! -
