Sounds like some great action so far! Glad you were able to get the correct info from AGFD up there. He's a great guy! Good luck for the rest of the season!

    Kansas 2016

Obviously to far for the first two shots. I just about spit my lunch out watching the video. That was awesome! Sorry, but I had to laugh at how nonchalant the bird got up, ducked at shot number two, and then just stood there while you reloaded (and took time to put your glove back on). That's a campfire story! Great video!

Awesome! I told my wife the other night that I'm heading to Kansas next year (with our daughter) now that a buddy has gotten himself established there in south central KS!

    backpack that carries baby

We covered a ton of ground with our Kelty Pathfinder. We got it shortly after our daughter was born and never looked back. It lasted through our son. It had some wear and tear on it after all those miles and years, but it was awesome. I could load it with plenty of food and water for me, the kids, and the dogs. Our daughter is 12 today and there are days I miss carrying her around like that. We got rid of it about 4 years ago, or it would be yours. Good luck! Youth Turkey and Sheds!

Congrats on a great hunt! Bubble wrapping her...I wonder if she knows my daughter! We've made a few hunts with splints and buddy-wrapped fingers. Her being a goalie could be the death of ME!

Taking kids on JR'S elk hunt

We finally got the results last week on our portal accounts and it turns out my daughter has the 4th Peaks cow tag. She's excited to hunt, but even she knows how difficult it will be by that time. But she told me she's willing to put on the miles in the three days we'll likely have and stay out all day until we're either out of time or have an elk on the ground! I absolutely love her commitment and dedication!

    AZ feral pigs

They're here. I've seen their sign in the Agua Fria grasslands on PNF, I know for a fact they're on some of the National Wildlife Refuges along the Colorado River (can't hunt them their unless the refuge regs changed), and I know they are up on the AZ Strip around Black Rock Mt and along the Virgin River.

    Portal Results Available

Finally got in last night and found out that my daughter got the 3rd Peaks Hunt in 7E. That was her 4th choice and it will be a tougher hunt, but she's excited to chase elk again. She's already said she's committed to whatever it takes since she's older and stronger! I may look into a leftover tag (assuming the norm) to have in my pocket while we're up there.

You're not alone. I know its my daughter's tag, just trying to see where she's hunting!
  14. Those are definitely not the two names I predicted (sorry, Mike), but congrats to them, nonetheless! Did I win the 15x56s yet? Yes, I'm a persistent bugger!
  15. I could handle winning that!

Happy Jack Youth Camp-Mentors Needed-Fliers Added

Bump this back up. Opening day for youth is a week from today and we really need mentors at the youth camp. Parents, if you're bringing your kids up and are decent turkey hunters, please consider mentoring, too! I'll be hunting with my daughter and mentoring other kids, all weekend.
  18. I spoke to the main organizer of the Happy Jack youth camp earlier today and told him I'd get the word out that we need mentors to help take kids out hunting. This camp is at the V-Bar-V Ranch just south of Happy Jack and caters to youth hunters with OTC tags in 5A and 5B, as well as those kids who have the lottery 6A tag. I know Christian (Christian2) on here is at the camp every year and this is his last camp as a youth hunter. From talking to the organizer, Tim Denny, it sounds like Christian is already talking about coming back as a mentor next year. That's about as respectable and commendable as it gets for hunters giving back in my book! So with that, please consider joining us at the Happy Jack Camp as much as you can 14-17 April. I had to miss last year due to a soccer tournament, but I will be there with my daughter and taking other kids out, too. Its one of the absolute most rewarding things I do as a hunter. The kids' smiles make the long days worth every minute! We REALLY need mentors! If you're reading this and want to bring your kid, there should be plenty of room. I can't upload the flier and registration doc because they are currently word docs, send me a pm with your email and I'll get it to you. In the meantime, I'll work on converting it to a pdf when I get to my other computer and upload it back here. Jack Vincent, if you're reading this, its a great way to come up and scout for your 5A hunt and get ready for your kids to be at this one! 2016 Turkey Camp Flyer.pdf 2016 MMLB Turkey Camp Registration Form.pdf

    Shooting Hours

Agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, it is legal in Arizona. When I first started turkey hunting in Arizona, I never even bothered to look those rules up because it was illegal in my home state and I assumed it was illegal everywhere. Small-town Midwestern naivety, I suppose. I've never bothered to look in any states' rules as to the legality because I just don't believe in it. Its about the only thing I step onto a soap box about when it comes to ethics, though.

    Lasik Surgery and Kamra Inlay

You won't regret it. Whichever group you go with, ask about financing options, too. Barnett-Dulaney (HQ in Phx; used to do all their surgeries there) offered me 18 months no interest payments through Care Credit. That, along with the first responder discount made it that much harder to say no, finally. Good luck!

Taking kids on JR'S elk hunt

EXACTLY! Nothing better in the world...NOTHING! We're still chasing her first elk, but she's gotten two deer and a pheasant. Now to wait for my son to turn 10 and fall into rank!

Taking kids on JR'S elk hunt

I'm not taking my daughter on a junior hunt, but she has a cow tag for one of the Peaks hunts or a 7W cow tag. She had the first Peaks hunt two years ago and is hoping for redemption. We're both excited and, at 12 years old now, she's already said she'll work harder and stronger to fill her tag after not filling it 2 years ago. During that hunt, she hiked almost 23 miles in 3.5 days in some of the steepest stuff AZ has to offer (with a broken finger from soccer) and I gave her every chance to find something easier. Tough. As. Nails! Good luck to your daughter and nephew! This was taken the last night of her hunt in 2014. On another note, where was that bull on the left taken (unicorn)? I have a trail cam pic of a bull almost exactly like that from 2012 in 6B. Love that character!
