NEW ARIZONA DEER ASSOCIATION RAFFLE !!!!! Winner posted !!!!!
IA Born replied to azelkhunter2's topic in The Campfire
Im waiting. I never win shoot!! I could be the only one in a 50/50 raffle and i will some how loose. This could be the one. I feel your pain! I bought two tickets this morning and am patiently waiting for my name to NOT show up! -
We've had about 2 feet so far in Flagstaff with 3-7" predicted overnight, tonight. And we just found out tomorrow will be snow day #3 for the kids. Forts have been built, the sled run started, and we just bought a new bottle of spiced rum! Black German shepherds look awesome in the snow. The big male (Odin) is our daughter's puppy and he ran all over with her!

Good luck with your banquet! Ours is the following weekend up here.

Thanks for the tips, guys!

I seem to have lost the "Where we're going for spring break" discussion. I pushed for a long weekend on the San Juan, but it looks like we're ging to San Diego. I do, however, have the go-ahead to plan a fishing trip (family trip) for a day! I know there are tons of boats and charters over there from a quick search. Can anyone here make some recommendations for a good, quality outfit that has half-day trips (only option given) and won't break the bank? I know you get what you pay for, but this isn't my first rodeo on booking charters. I want something reasonably priced that will have my kids (11 & 8) on fish, having fun, but not land us on Gilligan's Island. I appreciate any help!

I looked into the San Diego and a 9-10 hour day isn't going to work. I saw the New Seaforth 1/2-day trips, but I'm actually hoping for a smaller boat for just me and my family. I probably wouldn't do well in a big boat setting. Any ideas/recommendations for a smaller boat that is for 4-6 people? Thanks for the input so far, though!

I'd never been fly fishing before until the first time I tried it. I was HOOKED (pun intended!)!! I now have 4 rods of various weights and lengths and have a list of at least 4 more that I "NEED"! Good luck and be prepared for another addiction!

I had another tamale this morning for breakfast! Back to the OP: did you ever get any .22, Str8shot?
-
Pics or it didn't happen.... It happened, Clay. It happened more times than I care to admit! Merry Christmas!
-
I absolutely love wearing my Sitka stuff for its comfort. I guess I'd decide what pattern you want and then decide between the 90% or Equinox (not Ascent). You won't regret either one! Merry Christmas!
-
I just bought 10 lbs of masa at the local store. Let the tamale fun begin in El Paso!
-
I have both the 90% and Equinox pants. If you're going early season, the Ascent are good. Equinox with layers are good for later, but I'd probably want warmer for a late Nov/Dec hunt in the high country. I wore my Equinox with UA bottoms for my daughter's North Rim doe hunt and they were great.

One of the coolest posts ever! -
I bought my favorite Basha's Deli lady a cup of her favorite Starbucks drink this morning when I got my coffee and breakfast burrito on the way to work. She's an awesome person! Merry Christmas to you all, too!
-
Yah, you might as well give them to GoodWill, I think it'll be a few before he is wearing those sizes. We'll plan on a Flagstaff visit vs. a soccer trip to the valley. Be safe on the road...enjoy them tamales and Mexican comfort food while in El Paso. Sounds good! My problem is that I enjoy the tamales and Mexican comfort food a little too much! Merry Christmas and we'll touch base after the holidays!

I saw this before and after yhe boot-check edit. I found youth 13 and kids sizes 1 and 2 Hi-Tecs (2s are water proof, I think). You are certainly welcome to them if he'll grow into them. Otherwise, they'll just get thrown in the Goodwill box for our January donation. As much as I believe in that, having survived a house fire at five years old (losing EVERYTHING), I'd rather donate to a young, up and coming hunter! Looking forward to meeting up next month, if you can catch me at home and not in Phoenix at one of my daughter's every-weekend soccer games!

Yep. Tenkara is a small stream rod/style of fishing. It stems from an ancient Japanese technique that was all about food on the table and the simplicity of getting the food on the table. If you're looking for big water rods or lake rods, Tenkara is definitely not the ticket and there are better outfits. I'm always looking for that small-stream challenge, so its either getting a Tenkara or a 1- or 2-weight to give my 3-wt a break.
-
I first read about Tenkara a year or so ago in a Johh Gierach book. I'm debating on taking some of my Christmas money and buying myself one. I have a buddy in CO who fishes Tenkara and loves it. He's trying to hook me up through a buddy/guide/dealer of his. Temptation is working its way over me... It probably is a good way to learn the basics. Its always good to go back to the basics!

I just took a quick stock, Clay, in preparation for taking him hunting with me a week from today. There is a pair of Kings Mountain Shadow pants, size 6 youth. They are big on his waist, but short on his legs (he's a tall, skinny, 8-year old turd!). There is also a Cabela's camo hoody, size 8 that is at the cusp of being too small. He has a bigger replacement, so won't need it anymore. I also have a youth XS Under Armor shirt that is too small for my son. All of the above were his sister's that have been handed down to him and they are in great shape. They are all yours and I can ship them down when we get back if you want. If you want pics, I can post them up. Might even have a couple of pairs of hiking boots laying around if you need/want. I can check sizes.

Mulepackhunter, we try to schedule quartely field days in Flagstaff for online students. If you're willing to make the drive, I c as n probably get you in. I know there's one the first week in February that I'll be invloved with. PM me if you are interested.
-
Sounds good. As long as I have sizes that work, their yours!
-
Let me take stock when I get back home or furing my timecoff between Christmas as nd New Year's, Clay (don't let me forget). My 8 year old son is also growing like a weed and has probably outgrown some of his older sister's hand-me-downs (boys stuff to begin with). As it is, he is on the verge of outgrowing some the medium stuff and probably will by next year. When he does, its yours if you still need it.
-
I'm interested in the tripod for my daughter, but need to run it by my wife this close to Christmas. I assume from the pics, its good for sitting-height, too. No promises, but I'll talk to my wife in between soccer adventures in Casa Grande tomorrow-Sunday.
-
Well since you're headed that way and coming back...can I place an order for 3 Doz fresh tamales from Robertos in Las Cruces? Oh... on topic for the OP, I have a brick I can sell you for $30.00 Staying off topic, my wife was talking to her sister about getting the tamales going when we get there. I could probably hook you up with a 6-12 homemade El Paso tamales! Are you taking orders? If so, how much for a dozen? You may need an extra cooler for the ride home . That depends on how hungry and how well behaved the German shepherd in the back of the SUV is!

L.O.L. you talking about the wooden benches infront of house in pic of the camp table? The pic i took off the box? Ya that house might look out of place in my neighborhood! As for the ORECK that was my big purchase to spare shoulders and back.. Lightweight for sure. Turns out it really saves my body cuz oreck is light enough for 6yr old to use. Fortunately, you've figured out my sense of humor! Those benches would be awesome, though! And if I didn't already have two military mummy bags. LOVE those things!
