This is a NWTF State Chapter hosted Raffle. All of the local chapters in each area help sell tickets for this. There are 3,000 tickets printed for sale each year and each local chapter is sent 300 to sell. This was based on when we had 10 local chapters across the state. Even then, the State Chapter rarely sold all 3,000 tickets. Its been more like the 2000-2500 range most years. Some Chapters have always sold more and some have not sold their 300. We're down to 4 active chapters in AZ now. Our chapter in Flagstaff sold 350ish (give or take) tickets of the 3,000 and mailed everything to our Regional Director to be entered into the drawing. I've never asked for an exact number of total tickets sold because nobody has ever complained before. I can ask if that's what you want. When it comes to our local chapter raffles up here, I know exactly how many tickets are sold and we have spreadsheets for every drawing. Some people who buy multiple tickets are lucky enough to win multiple times in a year, even multiple years, and I know people who only bought one ticket who have been drawn. I honestly don't know what else to tell you that's going to make you happy and help you understand its legit. So I'll just say Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hate to lose your support and I thought I had explained why tickets were cut down from 100 to 50. Back when this was set up, we opted for 100 tickets. We sold about 20 tickets over 6 months. It wouldn't move, no matter how much I tried to push it and promote it. I can show you the email confirmation of your tickets being purchased. We cut it down to 50 tickets in order to try and push it to sell out quicker. That should have increased your odds because you were always entered into the drawing. Again, I can show you that you were entered. Even after cutting the chances down to 50, we still didn't sell all 50 tickets when we drew a winner, and I'm pretty sure we took a loss on this raffle. We tried something new and different, hoping to hit the upland bird hunters, and it failed. Lots of lessons learned. As for the other post regarding the ticket stubs, we've never mailed out stubs for online raffles. I've never had stubs mailed to me when I've bought chances at online raffles and I've never doubted the legitimacy. That individual is the only person who has ever complained to me about not getting stubs sent out with all of the online raffles we've done. I've learned over the years that I can't make everyone happy; all I can do is my best and try to learn from any mistakes and legitimate feedback. Our chapter treasurer did the drawing on Thursday and called the winners. I've been out on my Coues hunt with limited reception. I'm in a ridge glassing now and saw your note, so wanted to reply. The winners were posted on our Northern Arizona NWTF Facebook page by the treasureer. I'll get them posted here when I get back. I have no idea why the Marsupial bag said 50/50 tickets remaining. That was wrong. I'll work with our person who runs the online raffle to correct that moving forward.

I didn't save any of the stubs. I just received email notices when tickets were purchased on line. If you PM me your name, assuming you bought from our chapter, I'll be happy to screen shot the email notice confirming your purchase. All the stubs have is the list of guns and some cool graphics. All I can say is I'm sorry if I offended you with our approach this year, you're in the drawing if you bought tickets, and we'll work to do it better on our end next year.

James Lynch bought 16 of the 7/$100 packages ($1600) from our chapter! One year, a guy won three times off of one 7/$100 package!

I get what you're saying; however I promise its legit. I was basically a one-man show for much of the process, while recovering from surgery. Its all on the up and up, though. I know three of the winners. The drawing results are supposed to be posted on the NWTF-AZ FB page daily. We never know each year how many of the 3000 tickets are sold. Names are drawn every day by our Regional Director from a huge drum. We received a new calendar order yesterday, so I will be mailing out three new ones this week. I'm guessing yours in one of them if you ordered through us. One of this is one that I mailed two weeks ago, but was returned for not enough postage (stupid UPS Store). I may not have been clear about the 31-Day Stubs, but we had so many that they didn't get saved or mailed out, but everyone who purchased tickets from us is definitely entered. I apologize for any confusion over the stubs.

I love my Buck 110. It was given to me when I was in middle school (35? years ago) and its still my go-to for bird hunting. I used to to clean 100s of pheasants, rabbits, and quail growing up in Iowa. I still put it on my belt for bird hunting out of nostalgia and because I can't bring myself to go for anything else. I have other Buck and Gerber fixed-blade knives that I keep in my pack as back-ups to my Havalon. Its honestly hard to go wrong with a 110 and now I'm wondering why I never got my son one.

I'm in no way claiming to be judge, jury, and executioner here or that I know best. I've been instructing for 10 years and I have seen multiple kids show up to class and they point muzzles at people and have little awareness to what they are doing, even after hammering firearm safety into the class. When we approach the parents to talk about what we're seeing, some (not all) of these parents are either not engaged, don't understand the problem, or just don't care. We've had parents get mad at us for calling out their kids' poor firearm safety on the shooting line. That is not the norm and I never claimed it to be the norm, but I've seen it enough to say that it definitely happens and those are the kids/families that scare me. I agree and disagree with this. I wish the agency hadn't shut the program down for so long. And now field days are hard to get into because of lack of instructor teams putting them on. I feel for the kids who truly want to hunt and learn, but have to wait so long. AGFD started requiring short "refresher quiz" to help with the material retention. The quiz was required to attend a field day for online students and we saw a huge jump in both participation and knowledge. At the same time, even before classes were shut down, we had the same issues. It was also obvious (sometimes admitted) that the parents/grandparents/other guardian actually took the test for the kid just so they could get their kid out hunting. I've had kids freely admit they didn't know there would be a 50-question final exam at the field day to pass the class, even though there is a HUGE red banner on the first page of the online class that says there will be a 50-question test at the field day to pass the class. One teen admitted (sort of paraphrasing) "I just blew through it to get it done. I had no idea there was a test when we showed up." after getting a 22/50 on the test. Think what you want about AGFD's (or any other states') requirements to pass an HE class in order to hunt. I won't deny you that. I'm just a volunteer instructor who's seen the entire spectrum of issues in 10 years. I'll still buy the coffee and we can talk more if you're in Flagstaff and interested.

There's quite a bit of speculation as to why the department hasn't started up new instructor training, but that's for a cup of coffee (my treat). A big part of the exodus in the last year is the training requirements for cyber security and personal information access. Many of the instructors didn't want to be burdened with the training requirements, even though every other volunteer for AGFD has to take them, so they opted out of being an instructor. Now we're down to three (maybe four) active instructor teams across the entire state. We can't keep up with the demand. Our team in Flagstaff went from 20 instructors available down to 11. Burn out happens real quick and every team is pleading with AGFD to get the new instructor training up and running. Ours is the only volunteer training not occurring for the department.

I don't disagree with you at all. The parents of these kids are the ones that probably scare me the most because they don't see (or want to hear) what we see as instructors.

This is true. Also, we get kids showing up to online field days months (now a year or two) after taking the online class and they are absolutely clueless as to the concepts, questions, and basic firearm safety. And we're supposed to pass them. I hate to say it this way, but there are kids out hunting with a full completion certificate and HE card that scare the absolute crap out of me. I wouldn't feel safe around them at all.
