2022 NWTF 31- Day Gun Raffle

This is a second, separate raffle, if I'm understanding you correctly. I just jumped back on this thread to announce the latest one rather than create a new thread. But you are right, I dropped the ball on posting the last lifetime combo license winner and the last round of 31-day gun raffle winners. I could make excuses, but I'll just own that I dropped the ball. I'll get them and do my best to do better at posting them up here, especially with all the support our chapter gets. With this raffle, we'll be giving out two scholarships to two high school seniors ($1800 and $1000) at our banquet next weekend, so we greatly appreciate the support. Thanks for holding me accountable. Sincerely. Fyi, I'm sick of snow. We're well over 7 feet cumulatively at our house so far, with up to another 12-15" on the way tonight/tomorrow. I'm sooooo over this. We've run out of places to safely put it all!

    Florida Keys

Following. Islamorada is extremely high on my bucket list. I have friends going to Key West for spring break. I can ask them where they're staying if you want. I guess it also depends on where you are planning to stay.

2022 NWTF 31- Day Gun Raffle

The 31-Day Gun Raffle winners should be posted on the AZ State NWTF Website and I think we posted it on our chapter's FB page. With all the snow we've been getting, I honestly lost track of posting winners. I can certainly get the whole list of winners for the 31-Day gun raffle, though. You'd know if you got the draw. Our RD would have called you. He runs that raffle and does all of the drawings for that one, in particular.

Bump. Still time to get tickets and have a great time.
  8. Not sure how I missed posting this sooner, but we're having our annual NWTF banquet in Flagstaff March 4, 2023. Doors open at 5pm. This is the 50th anniversary of the NWTF, so there will be lots of great commemorative firearms and other cool NWTF swag. We're only selling 200 tickets due to space limitations at the DoubleTree, but its always a great time. Get tickets asap so we can get an accurate meal count. Hope to see some of you there! https://events.nwtf.org/30020-2023

Educate me on freshwater fishing AK

One of the main reasons I want to go back to AK is for the freshewater fishing. I had a 35-lb class king salmon on and it broke the line at the boat after bouncing out of the net. It was too far in the spawn to keep, so it would have been catch/release. That was up on the Susitna River out of Talkeetna. Of course, my wife lander her 25-lb class king (also too far in the spawn to keep) and never lets me forget. I need to go back and get my king, but want to also go after dolly varden, char, and those fat rainbows on mouse pattern with my fly rod. I'm almost more interested in those than going after salmon again! I've looked a few places up in hopes of a return, so holler at me if you want me to dig them back up for you to look at. If you don't still have my cell, let me know. Pretty sure I still have yours!

    Scope vs Scope Question

I've also been filtering away from Vortex for the same reasons as everyone above. I've had some great ones that have been dead on with everything and I've had to send a few back and still didn't trust them. I'm selling a brand new, never mounted Zeiss V4 3-12x56 that was a warranty replacement for an older Zeiss I had. There's a post for it in the classifieds, but PM me if you want more info directly. They're $950 brand new and I've got it listed for $800 obo.

Wanted. Free Humor to Uplift the Moment

I don't recall off the top of my head how long the waiver lasts, but there is still a waiver beyond the original 90 day requirement to complete the field days for online students. The demand is extremely high, while we just don't have enough instructors to put them on. I know we'll ramp up online field days in Flagstaff once the snow melts and it warms up. Keep checking the website or keep in touch with me if you need anything. I probably owe you a favor or two by now!

Wanted. Free Humor to Uplift the Moment

I would hope they'd listen, but I think some of them are happy to see the HE program go. I hope I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure there are some of the higher level folks that want to see the HE program disappear because they don't see the need and because they see the profit generated from the Ethically Hunting Arizona/online bonus point program. This is pure speculation, reading between the lines, and somewhat from hearsay, so take that for what its worth, but I've been involved with the upper level of the HE program for a few years now, sitting on the Advisory Committee. It really seems like the Dept, as a whole, along with some of the commissioners, just want the program, as it stands, gone.

Wanted. Free Humor to Uplift the Moment

The HE program is frustrating as he!! right now. We just hosted a 30-seat in-person class in Flagstaff and it was going to be my last class as an instructor until a couple of fellow instructors/friends talked me out of quitting. We've lost over 70% of the instructors state-wide over the last year (since Dec 2021, actually) for various reasons and we're looking at losing more. The New Instructor Training is on hold while AGFD "revamps" the NIT program, but we're not being told when it will be operational. Its the only volunteer training program currently within AGFD that is not operational and creating new volunteers. We lost over half of our instructor team in Flagstaff because of the various BS that was going on. I absolutely get and support the frustration many of you are having at not having the online field days being offered, but we're simply short-handed across the state with no end in sight. One of the reasons I was ready to quit, though, was the general attitude of some of the parents I had to deal with. I had one dad call me out of the blue and start yelling/bullying me into getting his son (on the wait list) into the class, even though I have no control over an automated system and is wife missed the email invite that was sent. He started berating me that he's been trying to call and email me about his son. He got real quiet real fast when I fired right back that I have no records of incoming calls or emails from him, but that I'd been talking to his wife. He actually tried to strong arm me over the phone while I was driving my son home from school. I had a few of those instances while trying to set this particular class up. Berating and bullying volunteers who have no control over the automated system and are short-handed is never a good approach, no matter how frustrated one is. To be fair, though, I did explain to several parents who wanted their kids to take the field day that we simply didn't have the capacity to take on additional students due to the limited number of instructors available and needing to stick to the AGFD HE Policy of Instructors : Students ratio. If I let one kid in, I'd have to let everyone who asked in and we just didn't have enough instructors for that many students. For those of you looking and willing to travel, we will be offering several online field days for online students this spring through fall up here in Flagstaff. My suspicion is that, eventually, everything will move to an online-only class (no field day) to match what TX and CA are currently offering, which are reciprocal across all states nationwide under IHEA standards. I hope I'm wrong.
