    Trying to Contact Muledeerman

Bump up, please. I just walked by his decoys in my garage and it reminded me I haven't heard from him or anyone here that knows him. Help me, please!

    Trying to Contact Muledeerman

Hey all- I've been trying to contact muledeerman (John) for a about 3 weeks now. I've sent him a handful of PMs, but haven't heard anything back. He sent me a check for my Pretty Boy turkey decoy and when it was time to finalize meeting arrangements, he basically disappeared. I've sent him multiple messages because I cashed his check right away. The decoys are his and not going anywhere, but if something major has happened to him, can someone let me know so I can send the money back. I feel bad having cashed the check, but not getting him his decoys. If someone on here knows him and knows how to get ahold of him, can you let him know I'm trying to get in touch with him and/or let me know what's up? Trying to do the right thing here.

    Amandas dog Julie

I finally took the time to read this entire thread. I'm so sorry for your loss, Amanda. I will own these tears welling up in my eyes right now. Your real nightmare was one of my biggest worries back when I did MSO surveys and had my German shepherds with me. We frequently found fresh tracks and I used to think that there was no way a lion would tangle with a GSD. I've lost two GSDs to cancer, so I know how much it sucks to make that decision before you are ready. I can't imagine having to stand there, watching it go down and not be able to help. My heart aches for you and your husband. If only dogs could live forever. My daughter asked me the other day "If you could have one superpower, what would it be?" I didn't know the answer then, but I know now that it would be to give dogs eternal life for all they do for us. My family and I are sending you our deepest condolences and best prayers.

    stolen sheds in flagstaff.

You'd be surprised (or not) at some of the idiots we have in this town. Somebody stole the propane tank off our camper parked in front of our house 6 years ago. I'm glad you were able to track them down and the buyer was a good guy about it! And thanks for the heads up!

    Anyone get a Rio Tag?

I read somewhere those rios are hybrids, they have some merriams in them. Interesting to see how the hunt went IA Born is well read on this subject and seems to believe they are hybrids which if the case is disappointing. I suppose the biologist-geek in me can't help but point out that they are all subspecies, not separate species. We only have one species of turkey in Arizona, with three subspecies. When it comes to that technical stuff, I freely admit that I can be a PIA, but I can't help it. Its also ironic because, in the taxonomy world, I'm a lumper and not a splitter. But TRKHNTR is correct in that my understanding of those "Rios" brought in from Utah is that they have hybridized with Merriam's up there. The geneticist in me would like to see the DNA results to confirm, but friends who were former UDWR biologists/conservation officers were telling me about the hybridization issue when they were brought into Arizona. There's a reason I'm holding out for my Rio from South Texas!

    Question about "Premier Member"

This thread is really still going? I leave for a while and come back to 9 pages of this stuff? Slightly impressive. And only 519 more posts until I can be a "Premier Memeber"!! That includes this post right here, unless my math sucks, which is possible. And at just over 41.5 years old, when I hit that 1000-post mark, my street cred will skyrocket!

    fail

That might actually be beyond EPIC FAIL!
  18. I put the Tru Glo Tru Bead Dual Color sight on my daughter's Mossberg 20 ga and it works great. I also have several friends back in Iowa that use the Dead Ringer Beard Buster and swear up and down by them. Had I known about them a year ago, I probably would have went that way for her. Fortunately, my Remington 11-87 with Tru Glo works great. I did bust the front fiber optic back in 2008 right after shooting my bird (set gun against tree) and it took forever to get ahold of someone at Tru Glo customer service. I finally emailed them and told them I'd tried to call a dozen times and got no answer. I told them I was tired of it and if I didn't hear back from them, I'd give their competition my money. I got new rods within a week...

    Building points for youth

Maybe I've been given wrong information by the G&F. I have specifically asked G&F this question and was told you can buy a licese for a child at any age. Sounds weird, but that's what I've been told. The more I think about it, the more I believe that's right (you can buy a license for youth under 10). I'm pretty sure we talked about this when I took the HE Instructor's Training. They can have their own bag limits on small game if they have their own license instead of having to hunt off an adult's license and get half the bag limit. Just not sure about buying bonus points or applying for big game to get the rejection and subsequent point. Follow-Up: I just finally saw Sun Devil's post and that is correct.

Advice Needed on a Youth 20 Gauge Turkey Setup

My daughter shoots the Mossberg Bantam 20 gauge with a HS Strut Understaker ported turkey choke. I'm a big fan of the knock down power of the Heavy Shot, so I have her shooting the Heavy Shot Magnum Blend (5,6,7 shot). It patterns great to 40 yards. I always tell kids to aim at the waddles or just above because its a big easy point to fix on, but center neck is the norm. Good luck!

    Building points for youth

Only partially true. Kids can take Hunter Ed at the age of 9 so they can hunt when they are 10. We instructor's don't have discretion to tell a 9-year old they can't take the class and we have to turn in all paperwork immediately. They get their hunter ed card shortly after now (used to be in class), but it is not valid until they turn 10. I honestly don't know if you can buy them a license and put them in for the draw at age 5, but I know you can at age 9 as long as they turn 10 before the hunt. A year ago, I put my daughter in for the 12A turkey hunt because her birthday was a week too late for the opening of the youth hunt. She turned 10 on the opening day of the general hunt and was completely legal. I'm with Big Browns on the youth tags. We need to have more opportunities for youth hunters to get out there. A 22% draw rate for youth hunts (elk) gets discouraging and I know a few kids who've lost interest in hunting because they still hadn't gotten drawn after 4 years. Also like Big Browns, I've been buying bonus points for my wife with the idea of her getting drawn and transferring the tag.

3 Free youth turkey hunting camps

To clarify, the Happy Jack camp also supports the 5A and 5B otc youth tags, not just the 6A youth lottery tags. Its a great camp and I'm sorry I have to miss it this year. They really need mentors down there, too!

    Black River Fishing

Hey Guys- One of the things I've always wanted to do was take my family down to the Black to chase smallies. I've never been so I know absolutely nothing about access and any permits (tribal?) that may be necessary. Is there anyone willing to give me some info on this so I can try to plan a family weekend this summer? We'd be heading down from Flagstaff. Much appreciated.
