I have 2 upcoming hunts in 6a. I looked at their new map and about 90% of the roads are closed in the areas we usually hunt/camp. Im very dissapointed. I totally agreed with some closures but I wasn't expecting this and yes its partially my fault because I didn't go to any of the meetings. our turkey hunt is in 2 weeks and archery bull in sept in 6a. what is everyones plans regarding this? are you going to purchase map and comply as of may 1st or??? we have horses which helps but we weren't planning on using them for either hunt but now don't know. the restrictions they've placed really shock me. if I go thru all the effort to comply I will not be happy when im hiking/riding for miles and then I hear other hunters zip by me on roads that are supposed to be closed since they have no plans on putting closure signs up. im looking for thoughts/opinions on what others plans are.

top is closed with metal and bottom is screwed to plywood platform. I guess I didn't think through the bat thing with the sun. the "spout" one would think is used to let something either enter or exit the canister (for lack of a better word) or why go through the effort of having the spout. I'm thinking of sending the pic to someone I know at G&F.

I came across this while scouting this week. I'm not sure what it is. It appears to have been there awhile by looking at the aged wood. The top is closed. The only opening is the covered hole on the side. The only thing I can think of is maybe a bat house?? Doesn't make much since though with where I found it. Any ideas? TIA

rifle for a 11 year old girl
naturegirl replied to 218buck's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I personally don't feel a 30-06 is a great choice for a small statured young lady of 11. I shot a 30-06 on my bull hunt a few years ago and I have a lot of upper body strength but it does have quite a bit of recoil. I feel too much for a young girl. you don't want her to anticipate the recoil . I feel a 270 is a good choice. it's excellent for deer. for elk it would need to be a good vital shot but they all should be good vital shots anyhow and the closer the better. I had an old 7mm converted to a 270 and I love it. smooth shooting and not anywhere as much recoil as the 30-06. also my son took his first elk when he was 12 with a 30-30. it was a close about a 20 yard shot and she didn't move but 3 feet. if you have friends who own any of these guns it would be good to have her try out a few at the range. you may need to buy or borrow one for now and one for when she's older. there will be a big difference between what's comfortable at 11 and what's comfortable at 16. She will grow a lot in those years and also her strength will change quite a bit. the key is you want her to be comfortable and confident with whatever she shoots. Definitely want her to like and enjoy what she's doing. -
I spent a good part of last weekend reading most every post on trail cameras. I'm looking for ideas to help decrease the chance of theft. #1 don't put on water by roads seems to be around the top of the list along with staying away from well-used roads. #2 lock em down as best as u can to keep the "honest " thieves away. #3 I'd also like to reinforce the bear boxes we have. I don't personally think it's an option for me to put surveillance cameras watching the game cameras. .I was thinking about hanging them up in trees facing downward.. Idk why I never thought of this before reading all the posts. it sounds like this would work better in pine country versus desert. I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers or suggestions you'd like to share that has helped you to keep your cameras safe. feel free to PM if u like. this whole subject is disheartening.Even G&F get their cameras stolen. I do understand the risks, but I really enjoy seeing all the pics I get on camera. I love the surprise of seeing what types of animals come in but I don't love not knowimg everytime I go to check cards whether or not my camera will be there. thanks in advance!

sounds like they need to eradicate the problem bear. im assuming they will call in someonw with dogs. hope it's just one and hopefully people weren't feeding it. once at Woods Canyon Lake we saw some guy with his toddler feeding a bear fish. definitely not a good idea for the humans well being or the bears.

does that include slaughter, packaging, etc?

update. my son needs the lump removed for a definite diagnosis. my FIL is in his way with intensive in patient therapy. he actually moved his leg twice 6-8 inches. unbelievable in only a week from completely paralyzed to regaining some movement. I couldn't speak highly enough about Barrows and a strong hard working man.

This might be old news to some and I don't know how I didn't hear about his death until today. I'm watching my typical hunting & fishing shows this morning and a memorial show for Jose Wejebe was on. Apparently he was killed in a plane crash back in April. He was piloting a kit built plane that went down right after takeoff. Its a sad loss. He seemed to really care about the environment and the fish and was a great educator. I've always enjoyed watching his fishing show The Spanish Fly. RIP Jose. I hope Heaven has lots of fish to be caught.

thank u all. his biopsy was inconclusive. CAT scan was done Friday. hope we hear something soon. the wait is hard. we were planning on heading up for a 5 day camping /scouting trip when we got a call that my husband's dad had a stroke. all plans changed instantly. he has left aided paralysis and we had him transferred from Flagstaff to Barrows. he was a perfectly healthy man. I'm praying he can regain his movement.

so I'm not a real shed finder meaning its not my only purpose when I'm out and about, but I can't quite understand why I can't find any by accident at least. I spend lots of time hiking in the desert and pines, but only once in my life have I found a shed. I know I'm mostly looking up for critters when I'm walking so I'm sure that's some of it but I also spend plenty of time looking for sign and of course looking where my feet are going. there must be a real science to finding sheds or I'm just unlucky!
