  1. I'm thinking about giving the 183 smk a try in my 7mm Rem Mag. Anyone tried them out yet? I know Sierra doesn't recommend them for hunting, but has anyone tried them out on deer or elk?

    200+Typical Archery Mulie from 36A

I know if I had dropped a 200" deer I wouldn't wait that long to bring to a taxidermy shop or tell someone. That kind of a deer is world class. Something isn't right.

Anyone try any custom barrels? What kind of accuracy are you guys getting out of them? Anyone try the 6.5x284?

    Remington .300 Ultra Mag

I'm shooting 180 gr. Accubonds over 100.5 gr. of Retumbo. I'm getting 3438 fps out of a 26" Sendero and getting 1/2 moa out of it. Plenty of bunch well over 1000 yds for whatever you want to hunt,

    Accuracy with broadheads

Shoot it through paper exactly 9 feet from the front of your bow to the paper. Get a perfect bullet whole, and none of this its good enough stuff. PERFECT BULLET HOLE! Then step back and sight in. After that shoot a broadhead and then a field point. Group together everytime for me.

    Distance?

Sorry to bring up old stuff, but one thing that I think is very important for taking a long range shot or not is the demeanor of the animal. I have personally killed a couple of animals further than 80 yds with my bow. Last year I had an elk tag that I didn't fill because I was wanting something big. I had the herd bull at 85 yds a couple of times but something was not right, either the cows were moving all around him or one time I felt that I might hit some branches on the way up. For a long shot you have to feel the situation is perfect along with the conditions. If the situation would have presented itself, I am sure I could have dotted him, but I felt the situation never presented itself. I definitely think that shooting long range whether you have the equipment or not, is not for everyone. Who ever wants to shoot long range need to be very familiar with that weapon. Those Best of the West guys do a lot of practice to include windy days or better said especially on windy days. These guys also advocate a high shoulder shot, which gives you a large margin of error and also shooting Berger bullets. They put down a lot of animals.

    300 weatherby facotry loads

I shoot a 180 gr Accubond for everything. Better ballistic coefficient and shoots just as flat as my .270 Wby Mag.

    Weatherby ammo

You know, I was trying those accubonds on some jacks, they were devastating. Just blew them apart. The jack was gutted and quartered by the bullet. You might want to check into those bullets for all around use. I have them in a .270 Weatherby Mag. Just awesome.
  11. So how many put in for Muzzleloader tags for deer?

    Your fav Rifle

I have to say my 30-06 in a Wby Mark V action. The rifle is about 30 yrs old, but it drives tacks. 1/2" groups at 100yds with Fed Premium ammo. I also have a 270 Wby Mag in a synthetic stock that is coming up on a close second. I haven't nailed anything with it but I have been taking some long shots and nailing stuff with it. I put in for NM for Coues. If I get drawn that 270 will see some action!!

Which Brand and Model to Buy

I shoot a Bowtech Old Glory. I love the bow because its forgiving and quick. Its a very accurate bow. I wouldn't trade for anything.

    shafts

Right now I'm shooting Axis 300's out of my bow. These arrows shoot great, penetrate awesome, and have pretty good arrow to arrow consistency. Like I stated before, past 60 yds is where you see the difference. As stated earlier, if you're shooting long range in practice those closer shots seem like a chip shot so at the moment of truth you are thinking about aiming instead of whether or not you're actually going to make a good shot.

    Reflex Made By Hoyt

What you need to look for is a forgiving bow. Long Axle to Axle and a 7 1/4" brace height or above. Before you commit to a certain bow, shoot it. Whether its a Mathews, Bowtech, or Hoyt. Shoot it first, see what feels good to you.
  20. I was curious as to the quality of these scopes. I was kind of hoping that someone could inform me of the tracking ability. I heard that they track fine, but the amount they move isn't quite there. The guy doing the review said that after his testing that the scope moved 4.5 moa instead of the intended 5 moa. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  23. Hi, I recently entered a contest with SWFA and I was hoping hunters can help me out. Its a photo contest with some pretty cool stuff as prizes. Here is the link to vote for me. It will take 30 seconds and it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to read the story, I'll give that link also. http://www.riflescopes.com/vote.asp?contest=5&entry=241 http://www.riflescopes.com/gallery/entry241.htm Thanks in advance!!!
