Put down another buck but this time with my rifle and not my bow. Missed the season opener due to work and had to wait for my buddies to get off. We got into camp friday evening and set everything up and cracked open a beer and enjoyed some talk around the fire. After we had a few and the fire was going out we decided to call it a night. Little did we know it was going to be a long night. Woke up to the wind blowing like crazy and there was a few inches of snow on the tent which made it colapse on to me. Had to get up and shake the tent off and man was it cold with that wind blowing. It continued to snow and was very windy all night. Woke up to the wind still blowing in the morning and very cold so we decided to stay at camp a little longer. At around 0630 the wind died down and we decided to head out. After our long quad ride to are area thru some snow we finally are to our spot were we need to hike in. We hiked in to our glassing spot and the fun began. Right away we started seeing deer which stood out due to all the snow on the ground. About twenty minutes later my cousin spots a good buck and I decided to put a stock on him. hour later and a good hike to him i found him at 250yards and I decide to take the shot . Bam deer down double lung and he gave me one bIg kick and rolled down the hill. Then the fun began took us the rest of the day to gut and cape him and get it ready to pack out. Have to thank my cousin Shawn for spotting deer and my buddy Crosby for all his help getting the deer out

What's up with the increase of tags in unit thirty three and other units. Was in there last year for the opening of the first rifle hunt and it was a mad house camps and trucks everywhere. And its only going to be worse this year hope they don't keep increasing. Is it a money thing or thru there field servers they have seen an increase in deer? Just wondering how and why they increase deer tags?
-
Well if the funds do not come let me know if u want to trade or I am in the process of trying to sell it so maybe I will sell soon cuz I would love your spotting scope
-
I will trade you a 2002 Honda 400ex for your spoting scope it is worth about the same.just thought I would give it a shot it is in great shape

I am always there helping my cousin or friends hunt during the opener .it is a great unit with good deer and I feel I have a good chance in taking out a decent deer and It is we're I spend most of my time during archery season. A lot less hunters . Just seven hundred tags is getting up there in my eyes and ya if u increase the tags the success rate will give you a lower percentage with mOre people in the field but there is still more deer taken out of the unit it just looks lower on paper.

Ya I guess I need to work on shooting at some moving targets lol. I think maybe they should give a antler restriction a try and see what happen I bet they would do alot better and blow up in population because there is no doe hunts
-
And I feel if you have a deer management like that for one will be more bucks and a better hunt over time with better deer management. With more opportunities over time for bigger bucks and more deer.

Yes very frustrating and yes I do go to areas were there are lots of hunters and I do try and get away but what's frustrating is u scout out an area before a hunt and u think u are getting away from everyone but come the hunt it is very hard to get away from a hunter when the hunt starts. If I had horses or mules would be a different story but when it come to hiking on your own someone else can hoof it just as far as you can and no matter how far you go u have to start from a road and it will always lead you to someone and with 700 hundred tags plus the people helping hunt you are bound to run into someone, just wish they would let the deer population grow and maybe ev en give the deer a chance by making an antler rule like they have to be a two point or bigger what do you guys think about that

So was wondering if anybody seems to see the same thing I do.I got drawn for the early november hunt and I am kinda bummed. Seems like all the deer either get shot at or pushed around by the time this hunt starts and the deer are hard to find. I know they are there but seems like they start to key on the hunters in the area and the pressure and start changing things up. I want to start scouting but the last time I did this I saw hunters all over during october hunt shooting deer and come noverber the deer are hard to find. Just wondering what anyone else has seen or what they think.

Thanks oneshot I will def be puting my time in. Got seven days to get it don't. Not to worried about getting a shot and a buck just the quality of deer is what I am after already got a freezer with some meat in it from my girlfriends deer that she shot with her bow this past august so I am looking to shoot something nice but those bucks are smart and isee them all the time then come the first few rifle hunts and the big ones seem to disappear. Got a great spot wear there wont be as many hunters but it seems like u just can't get away from them with 700 tags are offered for one hunt plus two other hunts with over 700 tags offered

And I can remember just a little while ago they took a lion out of the kofa mountains because why???? They new they lion was eating the sheep and by the end of the year there would be no sheep left do to small herd of like fourty sheep or so. And no wasn't with the guide on all his hunts so u are right just a bs session . And by your name and posts u must be a guide with dogs so I don't no why u are coming at me I could be bringing you business. Or u might feel I am taking it away? I don't no but u got to know there are a lot of lions out there. And reading books? Why who reads a book? I get my info from the internet and forums like this
-
Sorry azlongears ya they do eat everything else. But u can't tell me they don't hurt the deer population. Especially Coues deer! And I wouldnt say they are a very large animal.
-
Art a lion can take out a deer a week so that's fifty two deer a year from just one lion. And u must not spend to much time in the wild cuz there are lions all over the place. seen my share and get pics of them all the time. I know a guide that takes out clients to only a few units and in one year he guided forty successful hunters. And that's from one guide and one unit. I hunt the same unit he guided that in and I still see and get pics of lions every year. So do the math on what fourth lions would do to a deer herd. I have watch a few places and seen the deer population drop by huge numbers and only from one lion. Just this week I found three lion kills. So yes that lion does got to go. It will take out a lot of deer if it doesn't go. And for Coues deer they get eatin up like candy.
-
Sweet video but man if u are looking to hunt deer in that area with three cats in it u better try and take one out cuz one cat will take out a deer a week and with three cats that's three deer a week and plus and lion is a really nice trophy

So I was just wondering if there is a limit on how early u can set up a ground blind. Went to one of my spot in santa catalinas and there was a ground blind already set up in one of my spots and I went there the morning it opened up so it had to be already set up in may because it closed in june due to fire danger so that would be over three months in advanced to archery deer. And its not like u can hunt bear in that area or anything else that is in season at that time. Just wondering cuz if that is the case I might never get to hunt that spot again if u can place them up that early. Don't got the money to replace blinds if they get stolen or weather beaten. Thought there was a rule on something like that.
-
All the deer I have got pics of have been around the same growth but it was the same as last year and the growth seems to explode around first of august and the buck I shot last year still had very rounded tips and was not finished growing.
-
Was thinking of just maybe taking it down and keep it right next to my blind or on top of blind so they can see I took it down nice and didn't mess with it if by some chance they come back for it? What u guys think
-
Thanks for the info guys and I actually just got back and again the blind was in same condition so I am pretty sure as well that the blind was just left there because no has been there for over a month now so I think it is a safe bet to think they forgot it. I have one more question. Were the person has set the blind up is right were I had cleared an area and is the only spot were u can set up a ground blind to cover all the area. I don't want to sit in his blind cuz its a piece of crap and it is very small and has holes in it now from the weather. I want to set my double bull blind up. What should I do? I don't want to cause any problems by taking his down and setting mine up. And I def do not want him to mess with my blind. Cost to much money.

Derrick what up glad u joined and I did have a blast . And ya it does suck to see three lions in your hunting grounds wish I could get them out of there without having to use dogs and pay someone. Maybe we can get lucky and see the in the early morning hours and take one out
