    coronado closure order

So I just went to the Coronado national forest web page and its says the closure will be in effect tell july 31 2011 if I am reading that correctly or they could re open it if there is enough rain. Has anybody else read this? So if I am reading it right I should be able to scout at beginning of august Before archery opens up?

    My camera was taken

I dont think anyone was talking about shooting anyone I think it is just a piece of mind thing not to be violent in anyway unless like u said if they walk up on someone cutting down there camera then I can maybe see there being a problem but don't think there will be any gun fire. And some cameras are much more then 100 dollars. I think they would prob just post the pics on this website and let it be known that these people are thiefs that's if they get a pic of them stealing the other camera they have set up. But to be honest if I saw someone taking one of my cameras I am sure I would be thinking about woopin some butt.Cuz I don't think I could just stand there and watch. And they def are not cheap

    Hunting Couse on state land

So was looking at the Coronado national forest web page and it said it will not open tell a significant amount of rainfall? Was just wondering what that means? Or how much rain?any forest service guys out there can u answer for me? Just worried I wont get any scouting time in and cameras back up so I can find those little coues deer. We need rain

    My camera was taken

My solution to people stealing my cameras(had three taken already) is I buy cheap ones that are on sale still try to find ones with good range and mega pixels I also have a few good cameras that I only put out in more remote areas but I bought some decent gauge wire and a _good pad lock that I attach to them so it will be a little harder to get but if they really want it a rock would prob still cut thru it over time. They have lock boxes but only for certain cameras and I still know people that have had them taken even in a lock box. So really there isn't a solution. A thief is a thief and they will get it if they want it.

    Hunting Couse on state land

I am right there with you have not done any scouting in the Coronado due to the closures and I think I am going to change things up this year and maybe hunt some mule deer. I am pretty sure the Tonto national forest isn't closed . Coues and mule deer in most those units. My buddy lives in Vail and he is hunting in his back yard lol other than that I don't no what to tell you for hunting in Tucson sorry. Mule deer here I come if we don't get any rain in southern az
  8. So I just bought two new weimeraner puppies. Each from a different breeder. The youngest blue puppy is already pointing and has it in him. His parents were very good bird hunters and has a good blood line. The older puppy has a good background but not much in bird hunting but the breed was made for hunting so I am sure he has it in him. I live in gilbert Arizona and have not been able to find anyone close to help with bird dog training. I don't want to send them away and have them kennelled cuz I want them to be house broken as well. I am working on general obedience right now and it is coming along good with the older one. I am using a dogtra collar which I think is the same as an e collar allready so I think that should help with bird training. Would like to maybe work something out with a trainer to were I could work with the dogs maybe twice a week or so. Any info on bird dog trainers close would help out a lot. I would love to get them started or find out what I need to do. thanks for any info. Gray puppy is named Bogen which is german for bow and blue puppy is named archer

whos ready for the 2011 august archery deer?

I feel ya I hunt in the Coronado national forest as well and I am ready to go as soon as they open the forest back up after they get rain. We need it big time. Have not really been able to do any scouting and the season is just around the corner. Might change things up if the forest doesn't open up and start hunting for some mule deer for the august season for a change instead of hunting for those coues deer. But it might be hard cuz I am addicted to those little deer
  10. So who is ready for archery clues deer season? I am been shooting and got my thirty and fourty yards dialed in and marking down the days on my calendar like a kid for x mas. Can't wait only hope there is still some water left in the tanks I hunt. Hope it rains soon because the high country needs it to help with the fires prayers go out to anyone effected by the fires.

    girls bow

I would have to say go with the rzr diamond edge. U can adjust the draw length from twenty one inches to twenty nine inches and u can adjust the poundage from thirty to sixty pounds. Very light weight and perfect for a lady. My girlfriend has one and she shoots great and loves it. Bow is very quiet and stable.

    unit one info

Just wanted to here any info on how the birds are acting in unit one for the beginning of the hunt? Not going to be up there tell may so I was just wandering how the birds were and if the were hened up or the toms were still grouped up? Was in reserve new Mexico and it was extremely dry they havnt had water in over 130 days and every tank I went to was dry. Was wondering if that was the same for unit one. Did they get good moisture up there? Any info will help just curious. Don't need locations just wondering about activity or how everyone was doing up there?

    Velvet Antlers

And in bmls pictures of his mount it looks like a winter coat. Compared to his picture of field kill
  19. couesdeerhntr

    Velvet Antlers

I was told that the best thing to do is instead of using the summer coat is to have the taxi put a winter coat on a shoulder mount because of the hair falling out from summer coat and u wouldn't have that happen with a winter coat. Is this true I know when I shot my coues in august there was hair all over the place when I was gutting and packing out. Can't the tanner fix that? I told my taxi to just keep it how it was I want it to look just how it did when I shot it but will the hair fall out and make the mount look crappy?

  22. Going to be heading to unit 1 for spring archery turkey. The hunt is a late hunt and I have never hunted turkey this late in the year. I usually head to new Mexico for the spring turkey season which usually starts around april tenth and the birds are always fired up already. Seems like it will be late in season for some good calling. And the few times I get drawn in az which I feel the season starts to late in year as well is always a tuff hunt due to it starting in late april and the toms are hened up. Anyways was just wondering if anybody has had good luck this late in the year. Are the birds hened up or are the already serviced and the toms are lonely and out looking for the hens that didn't take? I always felt the earlier the better because the birds havnt heard much callin and haunt been pushed around. Any advice will help. My game plan was to set up a blind on some water and hope for the best got some good spots in unit one so I will prob just sit and call and wait. Thanks guys and gals and good hunting
  23. This is my 2010 archery coues deer. I spent two years on this waterhole the first year it dried up the weekend before the august opener. Then this year it was full and I got my chance to fling a few arrows. Opening morning started off right away. I was in the blind for no more then 15min and a real nice buck came in. I don't know how big but it got my adrenaline going. I didn't have my window down on the side he came in on, so I had to try and lower it as slowly as I could. There were two other bucks with him and the youngest one picked me off and they spooked. The big buck ran about thirty yards and stopped. I guessed the range and let one fly. The arrow flew right over his back. It must have been a little closer than I thought. The rest of the day went well with deer hittin up the waterhole pretty much all day every thirty minutes or so but nothin came in that I had been seeing on my game camera the rest of the day. The following morning started off just as good with some 2x2s coming in and a few does. Then at about 1030 in the morning I had four bucks come in. There was a spike, a 2x2, and two 3x3s. The two 3x3s were definitely shooters so I decided to take a shot. The bigger of the 3x3s picked me off and spooked a little as I drew my bow back and hit my bow on blind. So I decided to take the smaller 3x3 of the bunch. This deer was just as much of a trophy as the other three would have been. Double lunged him and he only ran maybe fourty yards and took a nap. Check out my video at youtube.com. the title of the video is 2010 AZ Archery Coues Deer Hunt, here is the link
