  1. My 2013 Archery Deer hunt started a little late this year and was not able to make it out tell saturday evening due to work and no pto to take for the season opener. Got to my area around 11am and set up camp and i was off to the blind. The even was a good one with a good number of does and a couple 2x2s and spikes made it thru that evening but nothing i was looking for that i had seen on trail cam pics. The next morning came in a hurry and i was at it again. Throughout the morning i had seen a few deer but again nothing i was waiting for had come in. weather started to change and i new the deer would start moving and sure enough around 4pm this guy showed up and i took a 48yard shot and i hit the mark. just after i shot my deer it started raining cats and dogs and thats when the real fun began. packed up the deer on quad and started out down the mountains. raining so hard and the ground was so wet i was sliding all over. got stuck for over thirty minutes in a washout and then rolled my polaris rzr on its side down a hill because i slid of the side. i was fortunate the deer didnt get damaged and i didnt get hurt. made it back to camp and skinned and quartered deer and packed up camp to head out all while it was raining. started to drive out and got to a hill and my quad was just not going to make it up with the trailer weight and everything i had on it. so we had to set up camp and wait it out tell today. all in all had the time of my life and i made it out alive lol. will never forget the feeling i had when i saw this buck skylined and heading my way

hey stand man what is goin on in picture of buck u posted after i looked at it it looks like there is two deer there by lookin at the legs of deer they are front legs from buck and looks to me like a deer faceing other direction and u see the back of the other deers legs. Yes? No? or that is one flexible deer lol

  3. Was just looking threw some pics of mt lions and was wondering if you guys eat the meat of the mt lion that any of you guys have shot. I have never shot a mt lion but not sure i would eat it if i did. Just wanted to get a little feedback on the taste if eaten

  4. Looks like a nice buck to me good growth for this early i dont think they have hit there peak growing stage so it has good mass and growth should be a shooter by season. Where i hunt and the bucks i have shot in velvet always seem to still have some growing time left and thats not tell late august.

  5. As for hunting that area gets lots of pressure during the hunting seasons from all the folks from tucson and phx. And all the way to peppersauce it is mostly private property until u get to the canyon campgrounds. Very beautiful area but expect to see lots of hunters in there during the deer seasons

  6. So i spent six days hunting with my otc turkey tag and had lots of action but just could not seal the deal. Had a great time and lots gobbling to my calls but it didnt happen. Had two gobblers at less then 20 yards but it just didnt happen. One i couldnt take a shot due to to much cover and the second one i shot at and had a good chance but what i learned is that a rage two blade will not go thru tall grass. Then i called in a group of three jakes and i shot the longest bearded tom and i hit him what i thought was good and he stumbled and tried really hard to keep up with the other two jakes. He could not walk at all and was trying to keep up with the jakes but was having a hard time and i thought he was done. I watched him go over a hill side and then saw one jake pitch down the hill and i thought i taged out for the year with my third turkey of the year. Two from new mexico and my one from az. But i guess i was wrong. I had good blood for the turkey but could not find him. I guess he had took off with the other two jakes and i spent the next two days looking for him. I tracked the blood to where he must of took flight because i could track the blood tell he took flight, and then no blood. But i had a great experience and i def look forward to next year. But in the mean time i am getting ready for archery deer. When i am not on my i phone i will post a pic of my arrow because that is the only thing i got to show for my effort. Man i love spring turkey and after this year i am sure i will never hunt turkey without a bow. makes it so much More if a challenge. I love it!

  7. Couesmagnet i have to agree i posted to this because it did bother me a bit. I see all the time posts about road hunting and people getting bashed for other reasons and really it is all about how u want to hunt and that should be all its about. I love this site for the information and being able to post your success stories. And seeing what other people encounter. I love that. And to be honest i love to see the huge coues deer that people shoot or post pics of.it keeps my adrenaline going and gets me reeady for my next hunt. It sucks to have so much negativity to others on how they hunt. From long range to road hunting to baiting and any other reason for others to disagree. I feel we are all on here for one reason and it is to share the experience and enjoy other peoples success thru hunting and to share the love of outdoors and that should be it. And i have to admit i am always a little jelious of others on there success and it keeps me going out so i can experience the same thing because i love hunting and i want to be the best at it i can be. This is why i love this site.

  8. I personally think i am a trophy hunter as much as a meat hunter. With me already waiting nine years to get drawn for a bull elk tag i know for a fact that i am going to try and shoot me the biggest elk i can find if i ever get drawn because if i do get drawn there is a chance i might not again. For coues deer i am not going to shoot me a spike buck that i will only get maybe 20 lbs of meat from it boned out when i can hold out for a bigger buck and get me over fifty pounds of meat from a mature deer. Which in turn usually mean bigger antler size. When i am rifle hunting i am always looking for the 100inch or better because for one i see way more little bucks and to me it is way more of a challange to shoot a mature old buck that had made it thru a few years and is a little smarter, And if someone is holding out for a 110 or bigger buck and not shooting any "dinks" more power to them which means they are letting young bucks grow to a mature age. Which in my eyes will then produce larger deer numbers in units and maybe allow for more harvests of larger deer. In the units i hunt i have seen tags increase and the number of bucks decrease because of the fact that there is no antler restriction and in my eyes hurts a deer herd. I Have seen an area which yes it is close to a road but always use to hold bucks go from seeing five to six bucks a morning from spikes to mature bucks to not seeing one buck and only does and the only time i will see a buck in there is during the rut in january and he would be pushing one deer with fifteen other does in the area with no other bucks to be found for the whole season. And in arizona u are allowed one deer per calander deer and to be a meat hunter for a coues deer is a joke. Its not like we have a multiple deer a year season so why not try and find the biggest and badest deer you can find which should give u the most meat. In my eyes living in arizona and hunting big game here makes you a trophy hunter due to the draw system and limited hunt opportunites for big game and us having smaller deer herds than other states. Just my two cents.

  9. Thanks kimber for the info at least you are hearing some birds my buddy has been up there for a few days seen some turkey crossing the roads but only hear them gobbling from roost and quiet once they hit the ground and thats with him not even calling so it sound a little promising

  10. went up to 23 this past wednesday cruzed the 200 rd all the way from young to the 260 calling the whole way and took some different roads off the main rd and didnt hear or see anything. did see one set of tracks but that is it. hopefully you guys are doing better than i am. i called about every 200 yards thinking i would get lucky but it didnt pan out. makes me want to make the long drive to unit one or 27 because i know i will at least get into birds there. i have never hunted 23 so it was def a new experience but some beautiful country and i am going to have to put some time into that unit to located and have a better idea of some bird locations.

I wish the turkey tag was like the deer and you could use it in the spring and fall

I'm pretty sure it is. I asked AGFD that at the R2 office and they confirmed it, if memory serves me correctly. Of course, with as much as I have going on, its possible my memory is fuzzy on that.

It is good for both. I'm going for a day or two up to Unit 1.

Glad you guys cleared that up for me because after reading this i looked at my otc tag that i got from walmart and it said nothing about spring turkey and just said resident turkey tag was hoping i didnt buy the wrong tag and i am glad to know i can use it in the fall as well if i am understanding you guys right

  12. I would say the southern units are a good bet. All of them have deer. My advice would be get some good glass and find some deer. And depending on the time you have the deer at that time should be getting ready for the rut and should be starting to mark there territory so look for signs of that and maybe u could pop up a blind or two in some active areas
