Road to Homer actually goes through Kenai/Soldotna and past/along Kenai River. Great drive but you could get the same experience in Seward or Whittier for less miles. Depending on what salmon runs you'd like to get, either of those months would work. King and silvers run in July, even mid late June. Really depends on when Fish and Game opens the seasons. Kodiak would be a blast; not sure if you'd want the extra airline fees to get to Kodiak. Lots to see and experience there, just as much as the mainland, a blacktail would be a bonus. You could also get a deer in Prince William Sound, and get dropped off by a charter for a few solo days in a forest service back country cabin. Sounds like a great trip in the making.

Finding a day charter for deep sea (ling, rock and halibut) is as easy as showing up the day of or day before and walking on, places like Homer, Whittier and Seward are all good group and private charter locations, and a few hours from Anchorage. I think that per day, public charter (walk on or book the day before) is one of the more expensive ways to go, it's combat fishing on a boat, with strangers. Not sure what your budget is, If it were me I'd recruit some friends to go with you, share travel and charter expenses and look into a multi day charter (can point you to some outfits I know) and get your money's worth, less people, less pressure (further out than 1/2 and full day charters) and way more individual attention from the Captain. The Kenai on the way to Seward can be combat fishing but you can pick locations and times of the week where you don't have to worry about it as much, though any time close to the opener could be crowded. If you go in the area of the Kenai/Russian confluence you can break away and fish for trout and char in Russian and then go back for silvers in Kenai. I'm not sure what time of year you are looking to go and if you want to get into the Kings as well. PM me if you want more info, I can give you a call too.

Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. Great job! Good to know they aren't all henned up yet, plus it just goes to show that even if you miss your alarm sometimes you should still make the most of the hunt and get out, it could just work out.

I sent my RF to Leupold and they sent me a new one. Decided to go a different route so this is available. This is NOT the TBR model- which means it does not do angle compensation. However, I used this same rangefinder model for over 2 years primarily for archery hunting, and it performed well. It is new in unopened box, MSRP on this rangefinder is 349.00, the video below is a little dated (2009) but it provides some of the specs for this RF. Sold.. Thanks

Not trying to pick on you, but this is information isn't correct. Give me case history when individuals privately recreating were excluded from specific areas as a result of the establishment or finding of an endangered species (not counting the sensitive area closures like BH on Pusch Ridge or Cabeza Prieta from April-July) However, if a land management agency is federal, and a user group (mining, logging) or individual (permittee etc) that has a sort of fee (grazing) or special use agreement with the federal land management agency that could affect the species or its' habitat, then yes there will be changes to the actions of the groups that could affect the species BUT this does not translate to an individual, family or recreational users unless they are the miners, grazers or loggers.

Right...cuz he is totally impartial. If Mr. Bundy has been allowing his cattle to graze on federal land, without paying his grazing fees to BLM (regardless of who Mr. Bundy thinks should get the money, it goes to the land managent agency) then he is in violation of the agreement that he as a permittee and in fact should pay the fines and face the court.

Nice job Flatlander... PM me your address, I have a Sportsman's Warehouse gift card coming your way. SWDesertRat - nice job but Flatlander beat you to it 300UltraMag - gotta be a little more specific! Nice job Flatlander! Cool idea Curtis Reed. I enjoyed it, at first I was a little concerned that there was now cell reception there.

Seriously? No takers for this gun @$500? This gun needs to stay at the top so someone 'local' buys it. -

Sportsmans Mesa Optics Counter SUCKS !!!!!
SWDesertRat replied to rezmedic's topic in Optics and tripods
I don't have a dog in this fight. I've never met the man and have only met rossislider once. What he said wasn't slander or inappropriate. I do think that as a person working in customer service, it is kind of accepted that your face and name will be out there. If your customer service skills are lacking there is a good chance you can be called on it, any day any time, bad day or good day. Now the true test of a person and their character is what they do and reflect on themselves about being called out, But that's just my .02. Happy Friday everyone, enjoy the weekend and let's hope results are out soon. -
My apartment complex wants to charge $$ for overnight guests. Is that legal?
SWDesertRat replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
Not sure what you'll find in the Arizona Tenants Bill of Rights but it might be a start. Also review your lease and see what 'terms' you may have agreed to unknowlingly when you signed the lease. Good luck...that would sure stink to get that on my door. -
^^ this. I own Kuiu clothing and have used the Icon pack since it came out and it works for me, however I completely agree with this statement for those looking at investing in their newest products. They now have packs that 'compete' against each other (Ultra 1800 vs Icon 1850) meaning they'll likely discontinue whichever pack doesn't sell.

Federal Firearms License Holder
SWDesertRat replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
More info. might help. Where are you located, or where are you willing to travel to for FFL? Are the rifles shipped from another FFL? What is a decent price? Transfers can be $25.00 for first gun with varying fees for subsequent ones. Most guys on here are likely to know one or two FFL. -
I shoot Montec's and have been impressed with their ability to cut and stay intact (I like 1 piece broad heads) Haven't shot an elk yet but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an elk with them based on what I've seen them do to other critters. I'm not doubting your observations but I'm curious if it was user error or broad head failure that led you to feel the way you do about them. Sorry OP, not trying to hijack..

750 - 1000 wolves planned in Az; meeting planned this weekend
SWDesertRat replied to couesmagnet's topic in Elk Hunting
Guys they have talking about this meeting for weeks on the general forums on monstermuleys. I wish i had more info, but i don't. I read what i saw, and that's all there is to it. I'm already getting attacked and i'm just getting the word out. Sorry i guess we should just go back to arguing about stupid stuff, i was just trying....coues magnet, please don't take my posts as attacks against you. I started to PM you but thought it'd be better to publicly apologize. I was speaking in general about rational discussion, Game and Fish generally gets the word out about special meetings, especially if Comm or wolves are involved. I suppose my head is in the sand as I rarely visit other sites except for cwt, we are more cordial around here and I tend to appreciate that more.Anyways, thanks for the heads up, I'm still curious as heck because I feel blind sided by this new plan for that many wolves to be in Az. Historical records indicate that there weren't even that many wolves in Arizona.
