Pueblo of Laguna Elk Hunting (Updated...Again)
SWDesertRat replied to mpriest's topic in Elk Hunting
Never hunted it but know the country. PM me and we can talk a little. As a word of caution, they only allow camping on their designated camping areas for non tribal members. If you plan on camping off the reservation, make sure you arent on the Navajo rez right next store. -
Whats the weather been like for you guys? I think a few guys from CWT leave tomorrow thru Friday. Warmed up in some parts and snow melted but I heard today parts of Wyo are still digging out from this storm. Thanks for the updates too btw...good luck tomorrow.
-
Glad to hear you guys are putting them on the ground! How man tags do you have left to fill?
-
Nice job and way to get it done! Some of the best tasting meat in my opinion and whether you euro the head or shoulder mount them they sure look sharp. Do they now allow cameras on base or they cant confiscate phones? There was a time when hunters and their assistants/guests would be black listed due to sneaking cameras on WSMR. Most pics from that time were taken outside the gate with a caped oryx.

PM sent for 12 gauge ammo

mattys281; IF there are leftover tags in Wyo after the draw you can buy them otc, doe tags can go at discounted rates sometimes too if they havent sold their quota. Buck tags can go this route..rarely though. Otherwise not any states I know of where you can get otc. In NM you can buy a landowner tag without a draw, you usually pay a little more for it though. Seen a few posts on here about last minute cancelation deals for guide or partial guided hunts in NE New Mex. To everyone else, thanks for the replies, but i have to say this thread is worthless without pics!

Good luck to you guys! Someone has to have something from the archery and first rifle seasons though...Id hope that members wont flame anyone for posting a 'controversial' trophy buck or doe from Wyo.

Bump for a very clean looking P38. Where are you or the guns located Perkele?

I'll take 2lbs of the H1000 and 1 of the 4350 Prefer pickup in Tempe. Thanks

The Outdoorsman in the northeast valley http://outdoorsmans.com/ has all the Jim White components, plus The Oudoorsman tripods both twist lock legs and snap and lots more. give them a call to see if they have everything in stock. Great place to do business with.

I have great memories hunting with a Savage 24. Good price and great mixed bag squirrel or camp gun. Bump..

Bump for a solid gun...glws

Was up near the rim this weekend, an afternoon shower cooled things down and bugles started popping off. Saw a few small bulls raking trees and trying to shed the velvet. You lucky tag holders are gonna have a great Sept.

Yes, I am still interested. Thx

"Going out of Fishing & Hunting" sale
SWDesertRat replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Classified Ads
Tony, Im interested in the Snip Pod kneeler. Thanks -
It is an elk hunt he is talking about, west of Springerville, limited opp. cow. Never hunted in that particular area but spent some time in there. You can find elk on that sw border closer to the trees, theyll likely move into the trees each morning but thats only a guess. If I were you, I'd also pay attention to the flats and all those little draws that head out towards the highways. Get high and glass. Dont forget about that portion of the hunt area closer to Springerville. The hunt was designed to alleviate elk impact on those hay and alfalfa fields in that valley. Good luck

Id be happy to provide you some intel. PM if youre interested. Great unit and great hunt, welcome to the site.

I absolutely detest bug spray, hate the smell, hate the oil residue. That being said I very reluctantly use Ben's 100% Deet to keep mosquitos away from my ears when I sleep on a cot under the stars, and that is usually after a few hours of fighting them off. Cedar gnats and flies during the day while hunting in the fall are a whole other ball game. I think these things can drive a person mad, its not the bites I mind so much, its the noise and the getting in my eyes, nose and ears that makes fall tough. Deet is very effective at keeping these insects away, although I have my reservations about any chemical that corrodes plastic (lost a few watch faces over the years) and some fabrics. I have a can of Permethrin I have been meaning to use. It is only applied to fabric and is odorless after drying. I thought that buying a mesh camo bug suit, gloves and head mask and spraying it with Permethrin would be the ticket for me to stay sane while hunting. Keeps the bugs away and my good camo free of toxins Im curious if anyone has used it successfully?

Navajo Nation elk hunts unit 13/14 leftover tags
SWDesertRat replied to vincefmx's topic in Elk Hunting
NonNavajo is $400 deer and 600 for elk, at least for the seasons on those leftover tags. Like Norteno says, there are some bulls and bucks that move through that portion south of Gallup along the Hogback and Ft Wingate area. Ive seen some nice bulls moving around the Zuni and Nav boundary too a little further south. The country around Bread Springs isnt very rugged but pretty thick juniper country. There are good points in the area that would work for glassing lits of country. If you get a tag, take a look at the country north of Mt Taylor in Unit 14. -
Yep, Im looking for a 7mm Rem mag for a southpaw. I know these arent hens teeth so let me know what you have. Not looking for a built gun, stock is perfect, and more likely in my price range. If I dont find it here, I'll be going to gunbroker or similar sight. Would prefer a FTF deal and someone in the 'community'. Thanks Call or text 575 64niner 1three 72
