Just another December coues/ backpack thread.
OpticNerd replied to sneakem33's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The bases on the bigger buck are pretty dang cool. I love burred up bucks. Congrats and thanks for sharing. -
Outstanding end of the year buck. Is he a 3x5?
-
You ain't kidding when you say youth hunters are killing it. Those are some great bucks. Congrats kids!

Dedicated Father & Son Duo take a stud buck

That's a sweet buck! Congrats Tristan! Buck has a unique looking coat. From looks of it I'd say they shot it 2-3 miles from my house. Score wise I'm gonna guess 116 3/8. DotShot do you know how much the buck weighed? -
That's cool. Your wife did a great job on that.
-
Outstanding bucks congrats. Hats off for deciding to take that wounded buck out. After seeing the pics that guy must have been hurting pretty bad. Do you think he would have made it another year if you would have passed on him?

For me every ounce counts when I'm backpacking. For a packing scope it's hard to beat these little guys IMO. Also when using my 50mm I can use my lightweight tripod and head combo that save me a good amount of weight. I wish I had some real world experience with the Vortex for you. As far as a 50mm scope goes I've been very satisfied with the results that I get from mine.
-
I'm a bit surprised by the not so good opinions on this scope. While I've never used one in the field I did have the chance to look through one at the store and I thought it looked pretty good to me. I've also heard quite a few people saying the 50mm Vortex compares favorably to the Nikon ED50 which I've had for about 10 years now and I absolutely love this little scope. I wonder if some people are getting bad copies of these little Vortex scopes. I can use up 35x-40x with my ED50 without any problems other than a dim image in low light conditions. Are you looking for a spotting scope specifically used for backpacking or are you looking for a scope for general all around use?

Every year I know more and more hunters that are good to 1000. Most of them don't realize that just because the gun is good to 1000 doesn't mean the guy shooting is good to 1000.

Congrats that's a dandy desert muley!

Depending on what you are trying to enhance there's not much that can be done to improve footage from a low quality source under most circumstances. Pretty much the only thing that can be enhanced that will noticeably improve the quality of the footage is correcting for exposure and a bit of color correction. You won't be able to zoom in on the original footage and get a clear usable clip unless the original is already clear in-focus high quality footage and even then if it's not a high bit-rate source like 4K or 1080 there's not much zooming in that can be done with degrading the footage. Still worth a shot but as mentioned earlier make sure you make a copy of the original footage before trying to edit it.

what to use to capture quality footage out to 500 yards.

What camera and scope are you currently using to do your digiscoping/videoscoping? -
Heck of a bull congrats! Gotta love them dark antlers with white tips.

For me I use both fixed and variable mainly because I use my spotter to glass with. If I was only using the spotter to occasionally get a better look at a buck or what not then a zoom eyepiece would be my choice. If I had to pick only one eyepiece I go with a 25x-30x fixed but I prefer to used lowest power fixed available for glassing and a variable up to at least 40x for getting a closer look at stuff. For a year or so I had a fixed 16x, 20x, 27x and 40x in conjunction with a 13x-40x variable. In the end I found myself using the 16x about 90% of the time and for getting a closer look at things I preferred using the viable 13-40x over the others due it's flexibility. I prefer straight over angled but currently I'm using angled with no problems. Angled can be a pain while glassing down hill so keep that in mind if you do majority of your glassing down hill.

Sweet bull Intruder congrats! Is it me or does it seem there are a lot of bulls this year that have at least one big ol' funky 3rd like this.

Spot and stalk giant velvet coues!

Dang dude everything about this post is spectacular! Out of all the greatness available in this post I think your writing style and how you put your story together is what made this one of my all time favorite posts. Unlike most hunting stories I've read as of late when I read yours I didn't feel like I was reading an advertisement for a bunch of sponsored hunting gear. None of the usual "I kayaked in on my trusty so and so kayak after which I hiked in with my so and so boots then glassed up the buck with my so and so best binoculars in the world finally ending it with my so and so broad head blowing right through the bucks heart like a knife through butter." I don't know if you wrote it this way on purpose but either way I think you did an outstanding job. Congrats and thanks for taking the time to share your hunt with us. Oh I almost forgot.....125 ARCHERY SPOT AND STALK COUES ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! You sir are an official hunting stud in my book. Keep it up!- 61 replies

I have one you can barrow Stud looking bull. A quick guess I say he has a 310ish frame add the extras I guess him around 345 or so. This is one of the bulls that I'd shoot for his character over score.
-
Post the video of that bad boy. Looks like a shooter to me but I'm not very picky.
-
It sounds like he/she took it. That's seems to be what he/she is saying. Hope said tree stand actually belongs to the guy who took the camera.
-
Hard to tell for sure from what you posted but did you take the tree stand?
-
Thanks and your welcome zackcarp.

Here's a collection of some of my favorite video clips from the last 5 rutting seasons. I've been thinking about doing something like this for a while now and even though a lot of you have seen most(not all) of this footage I feel the layout of the video is different enough from the originals to make it worth watching. Hope this gets you coues nuts out there pumped for the upcoming season. Good luck everyone and enjoy!
