I have had great experience with Columbia hiking boots. Back in the spring of '02 I bought some boots for about $110 called Elk hunters or Elk ridge, I can't remember. At only 6 inches tall I was a bit nervous about using a "hiking boot" for hunting but it worked out great. They were VERY comfortable, all leather and waterproof. I would have then shined regularly and they would even clean up real well too. During the '05 Javi hunt water got in them, I was disapointed because they were so comfortable but I had almost gotten 3 years out of them. I was surprised to find out on there web site that they had a "Lifetime Warranty" It cost me $13 for UPS and they sent me a NEW pair for the same boot in the latest version called Diamond Peak. I thought that was pretty cool! This new pair were just as good if not better than the first pair. A dream to break in and very comfortable. With me helping on three Elk hunts up north and two deer hunts down in southern Az, it was a busy year. I think I shined this new pair of boots only once and they paid for it too. The seam along the outer edge came apart. I figured no biggie, I will send them in for a new pair. I looked up Columbia's web site to find this: We do not offer a warranty on our footwear. Because quality control is an ongoing process, whenever there is a problem with the manufacturing or materials of our footwear products, we would like to evaluate it. If you have a problem with your footwear within the first year of usage, please send it shipping prepaid to: COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR COMPANY Attention: Warranty Department 7000 N. Leadbetter Rd. Portland, Oregon 97203 I called and the rep said that the boots have to have some tread left on the bottom and if I sent them in they would be "evaluated" "So they do have a warranty?" I asked " No, but send them in and we will take care of you if it has been less a year." I answered "It has been 1 year and 5 months" He said, "Send them in anyways" So I will let you know how this turns out, they have had them for only a week. I really don't care if they don't "warranty" them or not I will still buy the same exact pair. That is how much I like them. I recommend what ever you get to have them shined regularly.

Great Stories! It's amazing how much history and important memories can be in a rifle. My stories are not so exotic but as far as I can remember my first was a Daisy BB gun that I terrorized the neiborhood with, man I had that thing for years untill I decided it needed a good cleaning. I ruined it because I never could get it back together correctly. Funny enough my mom surprised my for christmas about 4 years ago with the same model . I was happy and surprised they still made it. The first firearm was a tube feed Marlin .22 that my brother and I shared, we liked it alot be we couldn't hit the dirt with it because we never learnd to aim. We just used to pull the trigger as fast as we could . That was quickly taken away and we were handed an OLD, no serial # old, Springfield Meteor single shot .22. I think our dad traded a co-worker for it for $20 bucks he was owed like 20 years ago. We quickly learned to make the shots count with that one and plus we were only given like 15-20 shells each. My first big game rifle I ever owned is the one I still own and hunt with today. It is a Model 70 in 30-06. I saved for what seemed like a year and only saved like $120. I worked for my uncle on a few jobs and earned another $100. He must have felt sorry for me because he asked me one day to show him the rifle I wanted. I had a it all picked out at the wally mart down the street because all the other gun shops sold them for sooo much more. He gave the difference an we took her home that day. I have taken my fair share of game with it from jackrabbits to deer, no rifle Elk tag yet. My wife on more than one occation has urged me to get a new rifle but all the memories and the fact that it does every thing so well, it will even shoot better than me, I just don't want to. Oh I still buy some thing just not another deer rifle . So Mule Skinner did you skin that mule because he was the reason you didn't get you .243??

I have always liked the .280. I did not get one because of some one the reasons listed, pricier to shoot, not readaly available, etc. If you look at some of the ballistic carts it will show the .280 having better energy out past 200yards than the 30-06 in simaler weights. A tad bit better BC number is the reason. 5-10% better numbers on energy and drop past 200 yards doesn't really mean all that much to a game animal when hit in the right spot. Dead is dead. Now for your question: Is it better? No not really. It is like me saying that my 30-06 is better than Lark's .270, Lark's .270 is better than 25-06's 25-06, 25-06's 25-06 is better than 300WSM's ......you get the point. They can shoot better than I can so is more the monkey behind the rifle that counts. I will say this if you have to choose between the two get the .270 only because it is cheaper to shoot/practice with and more practice makes you a better shot !

Very nice!! Great mount. What unit?

I try a few different factory loads but like Daryl says don't over look the 'standard' factory loads. While they may not be fancy or come in a cool looking box they can some times give great accuracy. Walmart sell a few .270 loads for about $11 a box to boot. This is all a ploy to get Lark to come out of his hid'n hole init?!?

SCI charges $8500 to get into there book?

What ever I can get a permit for!!! -
That is messed up. The man is trying to sell something for what ever reason.....LET HIM OFFER IT FOR SALE..... if you are not interested? FINE. DON'T LIKE THE PRICE? FINE. Found a better price? FINE. I would like to think that were are here to offer help and support that goes a bit farther than "any help on so-and-so unit, I have never hunted there before." Don't cut him off at the knees. We all love the great sport of ours and many of us could not enjoy if it weren't for the support of our familys. In the end that is what our toys are for.

Many think that when the military went to the .223 it was a big mistake. Even if it wasn't the military is re-thinking the .223 and seriously looking at the 6.8mm. The parent case is the 30 Remington, Remington's rimless version of the ol' 30-30 Win, necked down to a .277 bullet. The reports were "no impact, knock-down, etc" from the .223. So the military loves to spend our are hard paid taxes just for giggles or there just might be a bit of a problem with the energy of the .223. I don't own a .223, not because I don't like it but because I don't have enough money for another toy .

I saw first hand what a 150gr from a '06 at 208 yards did to a 1 1/2 year old fork mulie. WOW the first shot was tooooooo far back (gut shot) and the poor little guys half of his liver, all his stomach an all his intestines were on the ground. He wasn't far behind. On the filp side I also saw first hand when a hog of a WT with antlers that were wider than his ears and heavy, it still hurts just to even talk about it, with a 125grn from a '06 did at 105 yards. I was looking thru the binos the whole time, I even help verify that it was a WT because we were in mixed country and at first look he looked like a mule deer with the BIG body. The deer was standing broad side and the shooter had time and I even saw the hit on the sholder but he ran hard for 40 yards and we lost sight of him. I took us about 15-20 min to get to where he was standing and we did see some blood but not much. Whe found where he bedded when we lost sight of him and found bright red blood and bone fragments, long pieces. We guessed sholder. We backed off and gave him an hour and ........we never found him. The three of us tracked the that day for 5 hours. 5 of us looked for 6 hours the next day, we even came back after a few days to to look for the vultures. Nothing. I think it hit the point of the sholder and expanded right there never going into the chest cavity. Those 125's are now for coyotes. -

I have always left the gates as I found them. I learned early on like some of the others here. I do worry about the "slob" before me who didn't close like the rancher wanted and now I am doing the same as the "slob" I too have noticed when the gates are open 180 degrees or proped open with a rock and such. But just try and remember the last time you went out alone. Some times it's hard to get that gate to stay open enough for you to get thru so we prop it open or open them the 180. Maybe "mr. Slob" came up the same road before you and he was alone too an didn't close it like we normally would. When the are tied open, then there is no doubt. I wish that this was done more often. If it is a ranch I have a relationship with or if I see some one working the ranch I ask. Now a days asking some of the workers on the ranch is getting harder to do especially in the 36's where I spend most of my time. Because sadly people/drug dealers dress up like hunters too. Other wise I leave then as I found them.

I ended up ordering the blk/stainless thru the cataloge because the Cabelas up in the Phx area did not carry them at all. I am very happy with it so far. I am heading out to the 3-points range weekly to get it dialed in. Az coues addict, They did have this MZ at the Sportsmans Wherhouse here in Tucson for about the same money, + or - $10 in the same model you ordered. I am heading out that way Friday and I would be happy to stop by and see if they still have it, at least that way I have an excuse to go, if you like. That way you won't have to wait for the back order.
