Tagged out Saturday evening on my San Carlos Tribal Ash Flat Antelope hunt. It all started when my name was drawn out of 45 others for the one tag, 10th year putting in. I did a little bit of scouting and was able to see a majority of the bucks within a few days, great year for Antelope on San Carlos this year with a few exceptional bucks in the mix. I never did find the big one I was after in 5 evenings and 1 full days out and decided that I had been away from my understanding family long enough so I made Saturday my final day. I missed a mid 70s buck earlier in the day, shot clean over him as I thought he was closer to 200 yards than the 100 or so he actually was, life on the flat. I later redeemed myself when I seen another group and immediately put a move on them as I was running out of light fast. After fending off 3 different disgruntled Big Stallions I was within 100 yards waiting for the group to crest the saddle in front of me. One buck popped his head out, he was already missing one of his horn sheaths, looked around and I never seen him again. A few does came out feeding left to right and finally a buck bringing up the rear. I inched my way towards them and set my shooting stick, put the cross hairs on the buck, waited for a clear shot and let it fly. I heard the impact and the buck didn't flinch, stagger, or make any movements whatsoever to indicate a hit, 20 seconds went by and the group was already heading away and back to the left. I chambered another round, waited for the group to clear and sent another bullet on its way, hit again, the buck trotted 20 yards and in textbook fashion stopped, reared up and fell over. A great end to a short but sweet hunt, seen plenty of wildlife out and about each day, but that's just San Carlos for you. I'd like to dedicate my hunt to my late cousin Ronald Stevens Sr. who left this world way too early at 35, he would have been with me every day of this hunt and I immediately shared the success with him. The lady did not like the backstraps I cooked but the kids loved it (I think its just the fact that she pictures an Antelope before she tries it lol) also tossed the ribs on with salt n pepper, came out excellent. DAN

Thx, excellent hunt, had plenty of stalks and bucks within 200-600 yards, but I wanted to put my skills to the test and cut them all down to 100 yards and make a very clean kill. DAN
