  1. Here is my e-mail to them about resident/ non-resident on azgfd. I think we should only allow non-residents one bull elk per lifetime, best case scenario, one bull elk every 10 years, they should also have to have an arizona hunters safety course, and attend an azgfd seminar on elk and our state prior to their first elk hunt, guides that are from out of state should have to pay for an arizona license that is at least 20 times more than a resident guide, and should have to attend classes at their expense in arizona to guide, also all non-residents should have to apply via the mail, no internet, and all tag fees should be upfront for them or for everybody, they should not be allowed to hunt sheep, antelope, or buffalo in arizona at all, we have such small herds that an arizona resident might never get drawn why should someone from out of state be guaranteed 10% because those animals are next on the list, I also don't think ranchers should be allowed to deny access to public lands, if there are public lands that are locked in by ranches there should be road easements that allow access. Those are just a few of my thoughts and I hope I can make to one of these meetings to show support for residents and arizonas wildlife I think some of you guys had some great ideas and should send them to azgfd also, there is also link on their website. http://www.azgfd.com/nrm/no_cap_comments.shtml

    HUNTER ORANGE

I carry it in my pack, and for the same reason azpackhorse gave.
  3. I think we all could call and give a remote gps coordinates and ask if it ok to use our camera there, and then when he says its illegal, we should just say we will go get it, let him go if he wants to because there wouldn't be a camera there to begin with, no evidence no fine.
  4. I think that sometimes you need to express your anger it just needs to be directed in a way you are not making a personal attack, if you are trying to express a view and get something done, it needs to be just as you stated diamondbackaz. The quote that you put above is a response to someone who was here to instigate and try to antogonize us. I am not saying it was right, but it was a response and being such it was taken out of context. I do have to agree with coues addict also, great ideas can come from simple minds, common sense is under estimated nowdays.

  6. I think first off that our president whoever he may be at any time has bigger things to worry about than whether I get drawn or a non-resident gets drawn, that is why the government is split up as it is, and as far as states rights and hunting goes, congress and the supreme court are who is ultimately going to decide. In all reality we as individuals are the victims of some rich guy with a lawyers who have nothing better to do than create a division between hunters. We as hunters stick together for the most part, we might argue what, why, and how to hunt, but that is usually done in jest. Now I get the feeling most Arizona residents feel you are either with us or against us, and if your against us I for the life of me can't see why, all we wanted was to keep the current system, now I suspect there will be millions and millions of all of our tax dollars spent on this decision when it could have been spent on the wildlife.
  7. If the uso don't quit, they better git. I can here Johnny already Ernesto.
  8. I would be willing to bet that very few if any non-residents apply for a cow elk tag, and only a limited amount apply for deer not on the plateau. Before non-residents are allowed to hunt bull they should have to apply and receive a cow tag first. I already stated that the bull should at best be allowed every ten years for a non- resident and a cow tag should be drawn first. I agree that the tags should be mailed to the person that was drawn. With what I have read about the USO I wouldn't doubt that a fake id could be made pretty easy and the people that they want to hunt would hunt under an assumed name. Non-residents should have to check in at specified locations to have their tags checked during hunts also, or call and say that they will not be hunting this particular year if they have tags in multiple states and are not coming and then azgfd could sell those tags on a first come first served basis over the counter at azgfd. I would do anything in the states power to get the uso and their supporters out of arizona. We have a unique diversity of wildlife in this state and residents should benifit, non-residents should be allowed to hunt, but it should be under arizonas rules. The average non-resident and all residents are paying the price for rich guys that think they are better than everybody and the rules should be in their favor, you guys know that if a non-resident draws a tag and plans on hunting without a guide that these huge outfitters are just as ticked off at them as they are residents. If they aren't lining their pockets than it isn't fair. If wyoming wins their case it will go to the supreme court at some point in time and if our lawyers get their head out of there xxxxx, we can win this thing and I would still change some of the rules to hurt the outfitters out of state.

    Unit 21

I drew a tag there too, and from reading the posts on here so far( do a search on unit 21 ) there are deer from cave creek to camp verde, we just have to find them, luckily this is a huge unit and we have until december to find them, so I now have an excuse to go scouting, archery hunting, more scouting, more scouting, hiking, whatever ever else I have to do to find them, plus I might find a lion, bear, coyote or two, while I am out there. Good luck and God bless

    HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BEFORE???

I seen two mule deer does do almost the exact same thing in the verde river between bartlett and horshoe lakes, the were running into the water and jumping around for around fifteen minutes, this was just after sunrise. I was about two hundred yards away fishing, they finally just wandered off.

    More Trouble Brewing

I think about five of those are in 17a/b, and I think the las vegas ranch, and oro ranch allow you to hunt on their property for a fee, the oro I think for elk only, 7up I don't think allows you to hunt their property at all, it has a deer fence around a lot of it if I am not mistaken after they shot all those elk, I think yolo ranch has fences on the road from campwood to baghdad where you drive through the property, I have never checked into what fee they charge at oro or las vegas, but you would only need to pay if you were hunting antelope or elk, there are plenty of mule deer in there without going onto private land. I agree with Lark in that I don't think they could lock gates and not allow access onto public land if the roads are public maintained. I wonder how many people actually pay to hunt on these ranches, and if you pay to hunt on them as stated above they make you sign in and out, why would you destroy anything, I don't think that happens as much as they are saying, they want tags allotted to them that they can sell and make a fortune. HUNT ARIZONA ELK, NO DRAW, PRIVATE LAND, GUIDED HUNTS Is this what its coming to.

    Getting my Feet Muddy

I have spotted quite a few illegals while hunting in 35A and for the most part they were trying to stay out of the way, like in the bottom of canyons, there you will also find tons of trash, I camped near parker canyon lake ( Scotia Canyon ) and never had my camp messed with, the border patrol are constantly driving the roads and I camped within view of it. One more thing alot of the forest service roads that head south from there will cross the border into Mexico, no gate, no signs, maybe a cattle guard, the border patrol said the border is no more than a seven strand wire fence( I found this out after scouting about six miles or so into Mexico ). Good Luck on your hunt.

Do a search on unit 35A on this forum since the beginning and you will find lots of information, and if that is not enough, e-mail me KGAINES30@aol.com. Welcome to CWT.

http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/books.htm I don't know if you have the book or not but How to Hunt Coues Deer is probably your best starting point, I am sure you will get some help here too. I put the link above to the bookstore if you need it. Welcome to CWT.
  17. I think for the most part when I am out hunting I will help out with general information and what I may have seen if it will not affect my hunt, but if someone is in need of help ( medical emergency, truck broke down, stuck, etc...) I tend to go out of my way to help and I have never asked for ID. I also think that most of us on this site resident and non-resident are do it yourself types that are not using guides, (some of you are resident guides) we are just looking for a little help.

    Residents vs. Non-Residents

I gotta ask how you ran out of ammo, lost, missed, or had a sighting problem. I know one year I went and could not find the ammo I shot before I left on a hunt, nobody in town had any, at least where I checked, I had like five rounds, I made a trip into town the night before opening day and bought a box, and never fired a shot the entire hunt. Like I have said before if someone needs help I am not asking for ID, after talking with people they usually tell you where they are from, and I would hate to see the day when you were afraid to say where you are from, and as far as people I have met while hunting, I don't know if I have ever met anybody that didn't treat me well, I have given up parts of hunts to drive someone into town to get a tire fixed, my brother loaned some hunters his spare, we didn't ask where thet were from, we were all hunting in the same area, that night they brought back the spare and offered to pay for using it (my brother didn't take anything). I think the one thing that most hunters have in common is trust, think about it when you are camping most of your stuff is left out where anyone could take it, vehicles are parked in places where someone could vandalize or steal it with little chance of getting caught, we talk to people that are holding weapons. Now think about this if you were in town your car and most of your stuff would be stolen and you would be shot or robbed, and to add to that in town if you have a weapon a police officer would treat you like a criminal until he figured out why you had the weapon, a game warden on the other hand has to deal with a weapon just about every time he talks to one of us, and most of the time they trust us, what are the odds of that. I am telling all of you guys that if they was to do a poll on hunters that are in trouble with the law we would fall well below the national average. Good luck and God bless

coues addict, I think the mullet appears in Joe Dirt, and those hockey falls commercials, but there for a while just about every hockey player had one, I think some still do.

    Residents vs. Non-Residents

The poll didn't turn out like I had wanted it to, the top three yesses were all supposed to be seperate. sorry I don't know how to fix it.

    Is it just me?

One more thing to think about, if we weren't willing to share tips and tactics this website would only be for bragging and showing pictures of our trophies and I think the members of this website are better than that. Good luck and God bless

Seriously, I would check azgfd hunt unit reports, and buy the How to Hunt Coues Deer book. those two alone will give you a great start.

    Is it just me?

I agree with you Arizona Griz about being registered, as far as giving info, I am pretty much willing to help anybody with what I have seen or know to a certain point. I think hunters in general love to talk, sometimes you can't believe everything you hear though and you need to get out there and scout, you can't expect to get info here and then show up opening morning and get a deer. Scouting is the only way to be sure, but it helps to have a starting point, and I was probably one of the first ones to ask on this site, and the information I got was all good from every body that gave it, but I still went and scouted for myself. I still haven't got a coues, but I have seen quite a few nice bucks. I think also that Rembrandt has given as much info as anybody else on this site, and the PM statement is probably the way to go.

    Archery couse deer

I think that all deer have left Arizona, and the elk are not to far behind, but we do have plenty of lions, coyotes, and bobcats. Good luck and God bless
