  1. I don't know if it made a difference but my dog is between sixty and seventy pounds, bloodhound/bluetick mix she is a little over a year old. My oldest kid on the other hand is five, I can't tell you how much I am starting to hate all these shows about snakes, every single person on these shows has to pick up these snakes and talk about how nice they are. It took me an hour to explain to my four year old boy that he should stay away from all snakes and now I am constantly asking them what to do if they see a snake. GOD BLESS ALL
  2. Both my neighbors dogs were bit last year and she was told by the vet that the antivenom treatment would cost around 1000 dollars, he told her benedryl and aspirin would be her best alternative. Both her dogs were bit in the face and they both pulled through fine, and that is all I did for my dog. I just thank God that it wasn't my wife or kids.
  3. One of my dogs got bit last Thursday. They got out and I don't know if the snake was in the yard or if the dogs found the snake in the desert. The dog pulled through it and seems to be doing fine.
  4. I also think that whatever you are shooting you should be comfortable with, I think your money might be better spent on good binos and a tripod.(I also need these items)If you do not have the book HOW TO HUNT COUES DEER you might want to order that also because it covers about everything you might need to know. I wish you the best of luck, and I would bet that the group you are asking on this forum will have an answer to just about every question you ask. GOOD LUCK
  5. I thought Easter was when we get eggs and candy and whatever else the Easter bunny brings. In all reality I think that is what a huge percentage of kids nowdays think and it is up to us to let them know the real reason behind Easter Sunday. I think you said it well Coues Addict, and Ernesto. Happy Easter to everyone.
  6. I don't believe that statement. I wonder if it was taken out of context when he said it, I would have thought that the people with less money would have had to hunt to support their families. In Europe I think that statement might have been true, wasn't hunting restricted to certain classes of people. All that being said if I have the money to buy a tag and go hunting I'm going and I am far from being wealthy.
  7. I agree with Ernesto, and THANK YOU AND ALL OUR TROOPS FOR WHAT YOU GUYS DO EVERY DAY.
  8. Whoever hit it took the rattle, it had only been ran over by one car it looked like and they ran over the head, it was in the Agua Fria River on a dirt road about 1/2 mile from my house. Usually I don't have a problem with rattlesnakes but, I have three small kids and that is too close to home.
  9. I saw one that had been run over by a car about 1/2 mile from my house on thursday, it was about 4 foot long, it was gone this morning I figure it was washed away by the rain because I checked and it was very dead yesterday.
  10. I live near Lake Pleasant and I bet we got over an inch, hope we get more.

Welcome Alan, as far as coues go I am 0 for 2 and hopefully I will get to try again this year. These guys here have got me closer each of the last two years with their insight and knowledge. I'm a native Arizonan, live near Lake Pleasant, and work at golf courses on John Deere equipment.

    Lady Hunter 6A Dec hunt

Overview: Whitetail deer in Unit 6A are somewhat restricted to the lower half of the unit. If you plan to hunt Unit 6A, it is recommend you hunt the lower elevation canyons that generally fall below the Stoneman Lake Road. The whitetail population in the unit seems to be stable, with many above average bucks being taken every year. Areas: Whitetail deer prefer dense chaparral cover and can be very difficult to locate. All the major drainages in the lower half of the unit contain whitetail. One must be careful to properly identify the species before shooting, as both types of deer occupy the area. Plan on spending many hours glassing. Quality optics are a must. Good spotting scopes and binoculars can save you many miles of walking. If you climb to a high point to glass, you need to spend several hours at that location looking for movement. If you intend to drive the roads waiting to see a whitetail, save your gas. This hunt requires a lot of pre-season scouting. Other Concerns: A Coconino National Forest map is helpful, you can obtain one at any Forest Service office or call (928) 774-1147. Plan for cold windy conditions; dress in warm, windproof camouflage type clothing. Fire starting materials are essential. You probably already have this info, but here it is from azgfd. Good luck on the hunt, sorry I couldn't help out

    US/ MEXICO BORDER

ERNESTO, WE TALKED WITH FOUR OR FIVE BORDER PATROL/ LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, THE FUNNY THING IS THEY WOULD ASK HOW BIG THE BACKPACKS WERE WITH THEIR FIRST QUESTION, EVERY ONE OF THEM DID, THE FIRST TWO WE TOLD WHICH WAS ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES AFTER WE CROSSED, AND WE GAVE THEM AN ALMOST EXACT LOCATION, THEY WENT THE OTHER WAY, I DON'T KNOW IF THERE WAS SOMEBODY THEY CALLED ON THE RADIO OR WHAT. I HAVE LIVED IN ARIZONA MY ENTIRE LIFE AND THAT WAS MY FIRST TRIP TO MEXICO.
  23. THIS IS FOR ANYONE THAT IS HUNTING 35A AND THE UNITS THAT BORDER MEXICO, I AM NOT FROM SOUTHERN, AZ SO THIS MIGHT BE COMMON KNOWLEDGE. WHILE SCOUTING WE HAD SEEN SOME DEER IN THE FLATS AND CANYONS SOUTH OF PARKER CANYON LAKE, SATURDAY WE DECIDED TO TRY AN AREA FURTHER SOUTH, WE TOOK A FORESTRY ROAD SOUTH OF LONE MOUNTAIN RANCH, WE CAME TO A CATTLE GUARD, NO GATE, WE GO THROUGH AND PROCEED TOWARD A CANYON, WE SEEN A SIGN WRITTEN IN SPANISH, WE TURNED AROUND AND HEADED BACK, ON OUR WAY BACK WE PASS 5 MEXICAN GUYS WALKING WITH LARGE BACKPACKS, WE GO BACK THROUGH THE FENCE, WE SEE A BORDER PATROL OFFICER AND INFORM HIM OF THE 5 GUYS WE SEEN, WE THEN ASK WHERE THE BORDER IS, HE TELLS US THAT A FENCE RUNNING EAST AND WEST WITH SEVEN STRANDS OD WIRE IS THE BORDER, THERE WERE NO SIGNS, WE TALKED TO A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN THE AREA AND HE SAID TO BE WARY OF ANY FENCES RUNNING EAST AND WEST THAT CLOSE TO THE BORDER THAT SOME MAY NOT EVEN HAVE SEVEN STRANDS, ON MONDAY WE GLASSED A MEXICAN (AGENT) IN A GOVERNMENT VEHICLE AT THAT CATTLE GUARD, WE WERE TWO TO THREE MILES ACROSS WHEN WE TURNED AROUND, WE HAD OUR RIFLES IN THE TRUCK. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO NOT GET CAUGHT IN MEXICO, HUNTING THAT UNIT WE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. I HOPE THAT THIS HELPS SOME OF YOU GUYS & GALS HUNTING DOWN SOUTH

    US/ MEXICO BORDER

I DID HAVE A GPS, I NEVER CHECKED THE COORDINATES FOR THE BORDER. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT WE DID, I HAVE SEEN UNIT BOUNDARIES 35A, 35B, ETC., BUT WE DON'T HAVE A SIGN ON A FENCE. THE ILLEGALS CROSSING DON'T CARE, BUT I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN I AM GOING INTO ANOTHER COUNTRY. I AM JUST GLAD I AM NOT IN A MEXICAN PRISON, WE HAD RIFLES, BULLETS, AND I SUPPOSE WE WERE TRESPASSING ON SOMEONES PROPERTY. GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND BE SAFE

    October Hunt

IN FOUR DAYS WE SEEN LOTS OF DOES, WE DID SEE A SPIKE OPENING DAY IN THE AFTERNOON, HE WAS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY, SEEN A TWO POINT ON SATURDAY EVENING, WE JUMPED HIM UP OUT OF A SMALL RAVINE, MY BROTHER TOOK A SHOT AT ABOUT A HUNDRED YARDS ON THE RUN, MISSED, WE DID NOT SEE HIM AGAIN. ALL THE BUCKS WE SPOTTED WHILE SCOUTING WE DID NOT SEE DURING OUR HUNT, TALKING WITH OTHER PEOPLE IN 35A WE DID NOT HEAR OF ANYBODY GETTING DEER. A HUNTING TRIP, WHETHER YOU GET ONE OR NOT IS STILL A GOOD TRIP. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING TO ALL
