Teamwork and spotting/guiding a shooter in on a buck
elkhunter replied to LonePineOutdoors_AZ's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Funny you brought that up, half my family including me, are deaf, no radios here and can still get it done đđđ we keep winning radios at sporting/raffle events, we have the worst luck -
Teamwork and spotting/guiding a shooter in on a buck

Lol, itâs one of those things youâll get better at but never master. Keep going, 100 more stalks with a spotter and yaâll get a little better Itâs best to talk landmarks before going on the stalk. When Iâm stalking I always think in perspective of the spotter, you can interpret information yourself in the field and you know exactly where your spotter is and the angle they are looking at. -
Ruger American predator 6.5 creedmore, thank me later

Fun hunts this year, we did about 10 days in the field. My arrow found itâs mark yesterday at sunset after spotting a herd 2.2 miles out earlier in the day. Pops was able to harvest his 18th consecutive archery pig this morning. 43rd and 44th pigs killed in this father/son duo team.

Pops arrived in the unit on Sunday and spotted bucks all week but passed em all up. I was finally able to get off work Thursday and the next day and half was spent chasing nice bucks unsuccessfully. Seems like once we work in shooting range and get set up they decided to boogie out of the area. Finally found this buck bedded and he behaved himself letting us get to 328 yards undetected. Pops waited in shooting position for an hour and half, the sun broke through the clouds and the buck started to get warm. He got up, did a little stretch and pop laid him back down in his bedding spot. I knew the buck was nice but never knew he had giant eyeguards or an 8 inch kicker until 30 minutes before pops shot. When I noticed it I said ****, but I didnât tell pops anything. After he smoked the buck I told pops about the eyeguards and kicker and that was just a bonus for him.

Isnât peak size 4 years old for lope? Old age isnât a factor for trophy hunting right?

We were ready to tough out the weather on Friday. We didnât realize visibility would be near zero. Friday afternoon after the weather cleared a little we glassed 11 bucks and a handful of does. No shooters. Next day we hiked in a ways and after spotting small or young bucks we found 2 shooters. Classic scenario, waited til they bedded then made our 2 hour stalk and they werenât there anymore. Started glassing the surrounding areas and spotted this buck just 248 yards away and buddy decided he was a shooter. The crazy part was that 30 seconds after he died a bunch of ravens showed up and landed in the tree above him.

Wore the shirt the day before and it didnât produce any luck. Always wear that shirt on opening day for all hunts đ

No taxidermy, just boil the skull and slap it on the wall. đ

My wife has tagged out on 3 nice bucks on opening day the last 3 years since she decided to start hunting. The deer were holding tight at first light due to the wind. When I changed glassing seats I used the chest binos to scan closeby hills and found this fella and another buck at 700 yards. We boogied over there and got nice and close when he was bedded down. The shot was 140 yards.

Kevin- get out of here with that comment Yeah- her second shot wasnât necessarily but she saw him moving and put a second round right in the dome

He did have a Roman nose. His neck was thick with a chunk body and beer belly, I figured an older buck but he had no wear on his teeth so 4-5 years is my guess.

Congrats! Exciting moment for everyobe

Thanks! I used 50 cal 300 grain sst with 150 grain of triple 7. No pass through and the bullet went to the opposite side, probably a 2 inch diameter funnel from one shoulder to the other.
