Nate picked up this tag during the draw and I grabbed the same tag through leftovers. We put in crazy hours on maps and probably 3000 texts in the past 3 months. We hit up our camping spot on Thursday and did a quick run through of the area, spotted a bear which is always cool. Opening day came and we had passed up 4 decent bucks til this guy came out. As soon as we found him he quickly bedded down. We worked our way over couple draws and got setup at 198 yards. Didn’t have to wait long, bit 40 minutes and buck stood up, Nate shot and it was all over. Congrats to Nate, buck is equal to the amount of time he put down scouting and prepping. We didn’t see much that afternoon just a bunch of does and small bucks. Sat morning our buddy came out to help me fill my tag. We covered ground and had passed up 12 bucks til both Nate and Josh spotted a decent bedded buck at the same time. Worked our way over, again it was a waiting game for him to get up, after an hour the buck got up and bullet flew true at 238 yards. I’m a sucker for g3’s, when I see them longer than 3 inches I wanna shoot.

My wife and pops drew oct tags together. Last year both were able to tag out and were excited for this year. Opening day my wife had passed up 7 bucks til I spotted a shooter for her. Took us an hour and half to cut it from 2300 yards to 500 yards. We looked him over again and made plans for a stalk. Worked our way up to 154 yards, after a few practice squeezes she felt comfortable enough and let her bullet fly. It’s her second buck almost a twin to last years buck. on Sat we couldn’t locate any shooters for pop, Sunday morning same deal, around noon pops decided he’ll take one of the smaller bucks we found in the morning. So we hiked in bout 2 pm in the heat and circled around to view the north facing slopes. Turned out the small buck had a buddy that’s a little cooler. We set up at 208 yards and his bullet hit the mark, fun hunt this season. Warm and really put the boot to the ground!

When human remains are found it belongs to county sheriff, they will come out with a bone bag and collect evidence, take pics and such. Try to determine if it’s an illegal or an American. In both my cases we were able to find Mexican ID and all of their gears were in Spanish. Last time I called in the sheriff got stuck 3 times in his 2wd Chevy. We had a hard time finding him- he eventually had to call in search and rescue and get a ride to the body. He got lucky the 4x4 club was out there- all we had was a puny 500cc ranger!

I was in Hereford last night. Got to watch the Lightnings hitting Tucson and the Whetstones I went to Hereford yesterday to work at an elementary school and on the way back to the Valley I could see that storm headed toward Tucson.

Kidso- several students of mine have family ranches in Mexico and they have the same stories- run into a jaguar on the ranch the hunt is on

2 charges of taking game during closed season and one charge of exceeding the limit. I'm guessing the 3rd was harvested legally but it was the animal that went over the limit of one deer per year.

Finally able to pull a double, one pistol 2 tags! 54 yards for both. Good timing since we just finished eating 2 whole pigs worth of jerky from our Jan harvest.

Congrats Casey- came across a popular target shooting spot and saw some 10 mm casing for the first time- looks like it can pack a punch!
