Fiance had her first big game hunt in Feb, she smoked a javi and shortly after wanted to get a crack at a coues hunt. We spent time shooting, reloading, practicing all scenarios. Pulled a few overnight camping trips scouting and found bucks she'd love to bring home. Opening day at first light- this buck was on the hit list and was hanging out in the saddle we seen him in during scouting, he was roughly a mile out. We began the stalk when he settled on a barrel cactus eating the fruits. We crested a hill and it was 370 yards and no way to get closer. Nothing but loose rocks and cat claw between us and the buck. I told her we'll have to shoot from here and do everything we've been practicing when out shooting. She was cold blooded, got the rifle set up, took her time and said I'm ready, after the crack the buck hunched up went down 10 yards and piled up. It was a fun hunt in a new unit!

Sister couldn't come and at 5:07pm yesterday pops shot me a text buck down, he took a buck at 355 yards, 67 years old hunting solo! Thanks all- will have her look at this posting today.

Congrats! Memories for a lifetime

I use it, hornady sst 130 grain- it has dropped 4 coues bucks for 3 hunters now at 115, 370, 444 and 602 yards. For me it's scary accurate, I get the magnum results on impact but recoil of the standard non-magnum rifles. I love the caliber and reloading has been a charm for me.

Awesome- I was out near there scouting- saw the same thing- it was magical from sunrise til bout 8 am. Congrats

Agreed with Rock30- go farther south. Coues are spread out in the southern portion. The nastier the country the more likely you'll find bucks. That was the story when I helped friends in that unit.

Now thats a real good story!!! Congrats to all My son is 6 and is still working on his quiet hunting voice. One time he stayed behind with grandma while I stalked a herd of pigs (archery), I was a good 800 yards away and I could hear HI DADDY I CAN SEE YOU- he was watching me through the 15's. He spooked the pigs but they ran at me, swack and done! -
Thanks for the drawing the tag- full credit goes to you on that! Thanks for having all of us, great camp. Some of those stories are gonna be talked about for years !!!!

I had Falken on my toyota tacoma when I first purchased it (came with the truck), had the street tire version, still took it off road and it lasted bout 35,000 miles for me til the threads were all gone. I did have alignment and strut issue for a short time so that increased tire wear. It was a good tire for the price, never got cut up on sharp rocks which I thought was going to happen.

I'm screwed with snakes- I'm deaf and can't hear a rattler- I'll let you guys know about my personal experience after I finally get bit. One time was out scouting with ndaniels on here, he heard a rattler and my foot was on it's head. Other times I walked past a rattler rattling and I could hear my "hearing" friends behind me hollering and cursing. I'm due sometimes

Barnes triple shock shoot well- I have used them on coues and on my 300 win mag at one time was the most accurate bullet I could reload for that particular rifle.

Great buck- based on body size and frame he's hovering around the good ole 100 inch mark. Ground check him in Nov! -
