Last stalk I got down to 100 yards the wind changed, couldn't see him, and figured it was over only to walk up there, bust through a tree and find out he was bedded right where I left him feeding..

Because of school and work for the 3rd year in a row I only had 3 days to hunt. I would have liked to hold out for a bigger buck, but 3 days isn't long enough to get picky. Opening morning we took my 6 year old brother along for his first deer hunt and is it would go after seeing about 8 does he was ready to head home. After a long trip back we only had a couple hours to hunt opening evening and we didnt see much. The second morning we headed out to where I tagged out last year. After a long, uneventful morning and a couple good naps it was time to get behind the glass again. Around 4 pm my Dad found his way back to me and we started glassing a shadowy basin. Around 4:30 I thought I heard something walking below us, but shrugged it off since I had been hearing things all day. As luck would have it, the next time I glanced down below us this buck was standing there broadside at 30 yds starring at me. Of course my gun was just far enough away that I couldnt move to grab it without him bolting. Finally, my Dad who was completely unaware of what was going on, let out a cough and the buck bolted. He showed up again 400 yards away across the draw, 2 hits and a miss later he was on the ground. I've sinced learned my lesson, keep your gun within arms reach. It makes for a much easier pack out.

That makes 2 of us.. stupid beanie..
