Some cool bear pics
BASS replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
You know couesdiehard that makes perfect sense to me! I have seen a few herd of javilina in the same set of mountains in which the herd of bears appeared. I might have to let him go find his herd again and let him use my video camera to capture them. -

Thanks Josh, one of my buddies reports seeing a "herd of bears" in 22. He's still new to the whole hunting thing, so I don't know how creditble he is. -
I just got my Euro Elk mount back from Mark, and it looks great! Turn around was a little over three months, but was held up because of the mount itself. He also caps most of my deer for all of my family. He is my personal favorite.

My sister's boyfriend nailed a bobcat in 22 with the Ultra mag. Looking to get a full body mount since it was a nice looking cat.

It seems like all my buddies that go to Archery HQ have come back with a WB on their bows. But I do see your point. Are you saying that a drop away rest would be best?

do you know when were those taken? -
Hello guys (gals?) I'm the new guy around here. I'm planning on going out to 22 on the 30th of December to get a couple days of scouting before hunting the 1st and 2nd for another deer. Anyways on to my first post... *If this has been covered please excuse my noobieness I was looking at my can (that call) this morning and noticed that there isn't a way to make it hands free. So I was off to a few stores to get some ideas. But I ended up at Radio Shack instead. There I found my idea waiting. I bought a cell phone "holster" and left. The one I bought was a Motorola one that allowed the phone to swing freely. I took it home and got the dremel tool out. I then cut the little round nub that is usually on the phone to fit the can itself. I JB welded the nub to the outside of the can, and let it dry. I also put enough JB weld over the hole on the bottom. Now if you need to get one more bleat in there while you have your bow up, all you have to do is rotate the can as it hangs on your hip, or pack. If you need to shoot, let go of it, and it will continue to call as it finishes it's rotation on the clip! It won't make noise as your walking around because the clip allows it to swing freely, and will only make noise if it is spun all the way around, in which case you will also be spining around Please tell me what you think of this... Ken Bass

It's been a month or so since I've been up there, but it was getting on pretty well out there. I would say that there might be some out there still waiting. Good luck!

I head out for the HAM hunt in Feburary, unit 37 B. I guess I'll be hunting the "Coke Oven" side of the river, as that is the only place I have seen pigs

Very cool indeed! Do you have any tips for placing those cameras for a total newbie? I've had mine for a few years, but never get anything better than some foxes, and other hunters
-
I had a similar problem this last weekend, I still had an unfilled archery tag, and a new '05 tag. But threw the '04 tag away when I found it in my pack, as I had taken a small buck in November. What could the GFD do in that situation? Do you think they would test it for a time of death?
-
Corect me if I'm wrong but I think if it's out there a certain amount of days before the hunt starts, your good to go.

My white vane usually needs to be changed about once or twice a year. The worst that happens is that they will tear right about where they are glued. I guess "always" was a bad word to use in my above post, but it needs to be changed more often than the other two
-
That was some good info. It also explains why my odd man out (white) is always having to be changed. I wonder what the strongest color is?

Happy belated birthday C.W..com

I'm still the new guy around here (and maybe a PITA to some of you ) but love this site! I got so tired of hearing about how small the coues deer are, I always got a "Why did you settle for such a small buck..." But those guys back East have nothing on these tricky little guys Thanks to all of you! -
I shoot Easton Game getters II (until after javilina season atleast) and have no problem with fletchings getting ripped. Granted my WB didn't cost $40-70 either, I got mine used from Bear Mountain. Everyone I talk to says that feathers work much better in these rests, but I like the plastic vanes still

Yeah 22 got hit pretty hard too. My 4x4 silverado couldn't make it back into the hills until Friday afternoon. Even then it was sliding everywhich way. We had a great time too, espesially when we snuck up on some nature hikers, who got in between us and a buck
-
Thanks and right back at ya! Where are you going to be hunting? My buddy, and I will be hanging out in 22. We're leaving in the morning (rain or shine) and will be doing some final scouting, and running our film from the game camera back to city, before starting our hunt on the 1st. I can't wait to get out there, as the rest of the family is going to Mexico on New Year's day.
-
Oh well I guess I walked right into that one didn't I? P.S. still fighting with this dang camera to get some pics up
-
I agree. I say you do #6, as the rain in 22 in coming down nice but then again you are in a nice warm house, I'm hanging out in front of the StarBucks (Chandler) in my truck typing on this GOD DARN LAPTOP
-
Geez no kidding. We have had this archery hunt planned for atleast four months, now that the time is here I get to spend four days in unit 22 with all this wonderful rain.
-
I can safely say that the rut is in full swing in Unit 22, and at least 32 also. As I was in both of those units this past weekend, and the action was intense! My buddy, and I are heading out to 22 this weekend for some late Decmeber, early January hunting. I'm thinking of packing my video camera to see if I can catch some nice footage.
-
I personally like unit 32 but they need to shut it down for a year or so, as most of the bucks arn't very large, but they are all over the place! I have gone 2 for 2 in the last two years there, and both were shot about 200 yards from each other.

I knew that was going to happen, so let me see if I can coaxx my digi cam to work for once!
