Anyone have trouble with stick powder in their powder measure
apache12 posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Ok. I'm a novice. I built my table this weekend and set my press I have a hornady powder measure and I degreased it in full. Set it and I'm running imr 4350 and its stick powder and it seems to bind like some powder kernels are getting jammed and binding it when I charge the handle. Causes inefficient loads I read some forums that said they had issues with stick powder I disassembled cleaned again. And same issue Seems odd to have your measure dictate the type of powder you use Am I making a rookie mistake? -
Anyone have trouble with stick powder in their powder measure
apache12 replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thx mule packer I called hornady today. They said. It happens with stick powder and I should tap the cylinder on the way up and the way down I said it seems odd that the machined the funnel wider than the cup so there was a gap that woul F catch powder. They said they did because the powder measure works with some of their other components Anyway. I'm only loading rifle so far so I'm not in s rush. I will take me time and try to be precise Thx for the tip on Lee -

So if you chuck the powder measure what do you use? -
Thanks for that!

So some of you may have read my early post about loading for the first time at a buddy's house. Well I got the bug. And using someone's gear is uncomfortable sometimes so.... I bought the hornady Classic kit today for $269 at cabelas. I know it's entry level but $110'off and 500 free bullets seemed to good to pass up So I need a tumbler and some other fixings but what have you guys learned over the years that are next best items I should start looking for? Prep and trim tools? Which calipers work best ? Digital it's or dial? Are their manufactures that are consistently good and others to avoid Thanks for any tips Tables? I think I will most likely just build something to fit my works space

So I built my table today. Nice and sturdy. I'm sitting in front trying to figure where to mount my powder measure so the process flows. I will mount the press on the corner so it's stable I think I will get a stand for the powder measure I'm going to load 243 7mm-08 270 and 30-06 so far. Maybe some .45 I think from what I've read I will neck size mostly so the head space is tighter and then less trimming Need calipers and a tumbler I hear a tool for measuring where the rifle threads start is helpful too The hornady book was awesome to read

What size wheels?

Seems like most people use tumblers instead of sonic cleaners. I thought maybe the sonic would clean the inside of the brass better but maybe that's not needed?

This is going to be fun

New to a quad. Have you been pulled over on dirt roads not street legal?
apache12 posted a topic in Other Hunting Gear
So I finally got a quad after years of beating up my truck and legs I will still hike a lot I enjoy it but found 1988 hOnda fourtrax 300 4x4 from original owner $900. Looks to be in excellent shape So I'm trying to decide if I should make it street legal and license as such I will only use on dirt roads but it sure is confusing as to what is considered a dirt road that I actually need to be street legal on Any advice on this issue or stories of tickets? Thx -
Don't need one yet. But was wondering any one had a good shop in n phx I have an old Honda and north valley Honda said its to old for the, to work on

So after years of beating up my truck and hiking into my spots I'm looking to add a quad to the garage Don't have the funds yet but looking to buy used in the 2500 to 3000 range Does anyone have any advice on what to avoid or look for? Like sportsman or Foreman or how are can am or grizzly How important is carb or efi if I hunt up north? 4x4 seems like a must How many hours or miles should I stay away from I'm 6' 215. So can I get by with a 450cc. I'm sure I'm a couple months away from a purchase as I squirrel away the cash but thanks for any thoughts

Guy in my neighborhood had this quad as original owner. Bought for $900 from him Clean and well maintained. Even for an old dog 1988 Honda fourtrax 300 4x4 My pup jumped right on ready to bird hunt

First load. Should I throw this out?
apache12 replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Ok so I'm clear. I fix my error of seating depth and start with a standard depth and then more the bullet out from there until I find a happy length? It what increments do I change seat depth? And with this other variable. How should I adjust amount of powder? I mean I settle on amount of powder and then tinker with seat depth I guess I'm wondering how to manage to many variable changes at one time I understand I need to trim brass and clean primer hole Set and measure bullet seat depth each time But if I'm changing seat depth and powder amount at the same time I suppose I wint know what actually working So should I focus on one change before the other Thanks -

Interesting. I didn't measure each cartridge and I did notice a difference in chambering some rounds. -

New to reload 270 advice updated question at bottom about how to test loads
apache12 posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a buddy who says I can use his reloaded to work up some loads for my 270 I was wondering if anyone has a recipe they would share. I didn't know if that was the sort of thing that people share or not? I have a weatherby vanguard 24 inch barrel. Looking for 130 grain and would use a bullet for mule or coues. I usually zero to at 200. I wouldn't shoot past 500 yards Thx -
New to reload 270 advice updated question at bottom about how to test loads
apache12 replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks for all the help. I certainly have some fun ahead of me One more question Should I shoot five then drag a snake through and let rifle totally cool and shoot five more of different load My 270 seems to walk a bit as it gets warm. Even with bedded action and floated barrel -
Stabilizer? How do you know what works best for your set up?
apache12 posted a topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I never thought much of a stabilizer. And then I thought id read about them. Now Im more confused. Anyone solve this riddle? -
So I bought a new release as listed above Love the break and adjustability. Shot a demo at ross with no issue Got home and shot the new one and had three arrows release prior to my finger getting on the trigger Messed with the length and weight of release and think I got it dialed in. I do like it but those misfires freaked me out. It was like I maybe only bumped the release coming from behind the trigger to up and over so I could get ready to shoot. Has anyone had any malfunctions or was the total rookie pilot error Nervous about shooting with gloves where I don't feel that trigger as well .

I'm two years in and shooting more. Think it's time to put my $20 release in the pack as a back up I don't know all the terminology but I use the strap type release not the kind that look like brass knuckles And it's not the hook type but the caliper. I think I would just stay with that type to keep my shooting form similar while I'm still figuring this archery thing out Any releases to stay away from or ones that folks have had good success with? I think the fold back seems worth it. Any reasons why to avoid fold back? Thx
-
It must have been me. So to increase trigger weight do you back the screw out or turn in. I think it's turning it out Thx

Which stock? The gray synthetic. Any pics. Thx

Just found that rancher went fuel inj on 2007. Did a nationwide search and 90% seem electric shift. Maybe by the time I find an 07 manual shift 4x4 rancher I'll actually have the money saved and maybe a deer tag
