What is the most efficient way to learn a new unit?
apache12 replied to SHeap's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Desert bull on the site sells nice topo maps that give a few areas to glass. I usually start there and sometimes end up finding other spots I like in the area. But for $30 bucks it's a good way to start and he is excellent to work with -

Go to NM. Tags are hard enough to pull for AZ residents. -
which pack is the best all around for hunting?
apache12 replied to Coues Kid's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Eberlestock X2. Big enough to carry elk quarters. Light enough for day pack. Excellent quality. Can add a scabbard for hands free hiking -

Yesterday at the range I noticed how my point of impact changed greatly based on how firm I held the rifle. My windage never changed and my groups stayed tight but there was a three inch difference in point of impact based on if I held the fore stock very tight and didn't let it jump or when I didn't hold it at all but would cross my left hand (non trigger hand) back onto there rear stock for a bench rest type of hold So is there a right way or wrong way? I'm thinking about hunting situations and how I would lay prone with my rifle on my pack. In that case I think the rifle would tend to jump higher than if I was seated and shooting of my tripod and holding the rifle down firmer against the tripod Anyway. I would enjoy the forums feedback or advice. Also the rifle is not free floated but it does have a quality stock with aluminum bed and a quality Timney trigger. I may free float later

Very lightly used savage rim fire 17hmr. Laminate stock and stainless steal bull barrel. Shoot clovers at 100 yards. Has a Burris fullfield ii 3x9x40 scope with ballistic drop reticle. Less than 100 rounds through it. Not one scratch. Scope has light scratch on metal housing but glass is perfect $400

No scratches at all really great condition They sell on eBay for $400 to $450 used and $500 and above new Not super motivated to sell only posted because I have an option on a similar scope with a little more power and if I can sell this fine. If not I will remove

Reload virgin. Question on 270 load
apache12 replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sorry 130 grn. Not 230. Typo I shoot a weatherby vanguard bell and Carlson bedded stock Timney trigger. 1-10 twist -
So I've been thinking of reloading. Driven by low ammo supplies and would like to see how different loads change the accuracy I have a friend that has a basic reload set up and he said I could use it at his house any time. The one thing that has been holding me back is it seems like reload supply's are as hard or harder to find than just factory ammo Am I jumping from the frying pan to the fire? Would anyone care to give me a load I could try out? I'm not sure it those are secrets that aren't shared so if so my mistake In factory my 270 seems to shoot hornady 130 grn superformance sst we'll. but. I usually shoot that because it's all I can find I called hornady one and said they start to wonder at 200 and above (could be me but I have a rest) They said try a boat tail bullett Thanks for any pointers.

This is a nikon scope taken off a Savage rifle package and it has the BDC reticle I honestly don't know if it's a Prostaff but the quality seems like it would be of that level If people know that it is not a Prostaff level just let me know. I don't want mis represent the scope and cheat anyone If it is Prostaff I thought id sell it for $120, they seem to sell for about $150. If not I think I will just keep it an pop it on my 17 NMR It is good shape I can send pics if you need but it's just that same old Nikon you see all over the stores
-
Ok so I must be asking to much. Are these not Prostaff quality? Can anyone learn me up?

Excellent condition weatherby vanguard. 270 win. 24 in blued (not matte) barrel hogue over modeled stock. Light scuffs on stock and barrel from field. Barrel and bore smooth and clean. No rust Thought I had this sold to my neighbor and he had to back out for honest reasons. Now I guess I have this sold in my head Scope not included or rings or sling. Rifle only Scope is for sale for $275. It's a weaver grand slam 6x20x40 AO. So $675 for both not including sling. I love that old sling Shoots great
