    Results Are Out!

The online draw results don't recognize my number. It was working up until the results were posted. Anyone else having this problem?

Where will you be huntin Elk?

    Unfortunately, only in my dreams.
  3. Have some questions about the draw process for deer, which if I read it properly, is due June 12th. This is only the second time I've drawn in AZ, so I was hoping for some of your feedback: 1. Last year when the draw app deadline was approaching, there was a lot more chatter, and AZGFD would send out numerous reminders. I haven't seen any chatter or reminders, which makes me wonder if I'm reading the deadline correctly. 2. The guy that recently sold me his Jeep wants to hunt with me (that's a good thing: up until now, I haven't found any hunting partners). He needs my social security number to put on the hunt app. It makes me a little nervous giving my SSN to someone I haven't known for a long time. He is a retired DPS officer, seems like a man of integrity, but still, I haven't known him for long. How would you all feel about this? I have a hunter ID number, but in reading the draw instructions, it looks like the SSN is mandatory. 3. If I don't give him the SSN for the app he's submitting, and fill out my own app that mirrors the hunt numbers on his, does that lessen the chances of us getting drawn together? Thanks for your input.

    Questions about deer draw/deadline

Thanks for the input folks. I went ahead and gave the guy my SSN, and looking forward to my first AZ hunt. FWIW, I just called AZGFD office in Mesa. I asked them to clarify whether you need to include your SSN on the application if you put the Hunter ID in the other box. The answer was "YES, you absolutely must include your SSN on any application to remain in compliance with federal law". The Hunter ID number is just a tool that's used to aid in checking your bonus points. I also passed along that AZGFD has been a little less agressive in sending email alerts about the upcoming draw registration deadlines. She said she would pass it along to the main office to see if they could send something out. Thanks again for your input.

The latest "new look" of the web board

Is it just me, or is the black on brown motif hard to read? Is there any way to change it?

rifle for a 11 year old girl

I was in the same boat you are about 6 months ago with my son. He is 11 also. We we ended up going with a .243. He handles the recoil with no problem, and should have plenty of punch for deer within reasonable yardage. I'm told that the .243 may be a bit of a stretch for elk, unless the shot is dead-on the kill zone. FWIW, he bought the Weatherby Vanguard II (.243) with a Vortex 4-9x40 scope, out the door for less than $600. I am amazed at the accuracy of this gun at 200 yds. I was so impressed, I went out and bought one in 30-.06 as my first h/p rifle. Someone on this board has a Rem 700 youth model with scope for $425. Might be worth a look. If the recoil is too heavy, try a Limb Saver slip-on recoil pad; it's amazing how effective they are at reducing recoil. Now if I could just get my son motivated to finish the hunter safety course! Good luck in your quest.

    My new hunting rig (finally!)

Well...after several months of gyrations deciding which 4wd machine to buy, I finally bit the bullet Thursday and bought this 1999 Jeep Wrangler. It needs a couple of things, but overall a pretty nice machine with 100k miles. And the best part: The wife LOVES it! (so do the kids). I would like to sincerely thank all of you for your ideas and input in helping me find a vehicle...it was a great help. The lack of a 4wd vehicle been the one thing preventing me from getting out there and "just doing it".

    My new hunting rig (finally!)

Did I miss something? Where do I look to find out about restrictions? Having not previously owned a 4wd vehicle, I haven't kept in the loop.

    Need some transmission help

I swear by Tri City Transmissions in Tempe. They're right across from the Tempe Market Place. When my cars need service that I don't want to tackle, I use Kobars Auto in Gilbert. Gene Kobar is a friend and fellow church member. He always recommends, Tri City, as does Mark Salem Automotive, another reputable shop. The number at Tri City is 480-968-5062 Good luck

The latest "new look" of the web board

I'm not sure, buy there used to be a little green arrow next to the topic. When holding your mouse over the arrow, it points you to the most recent post since you marked the board as read

The latest "new look" of the web board

For about three hours, it was black letters on a dark brown background. I checked in later, and it had returned to normal. Sorry for raising the red flag...must have been some rogue electrons out for a spin.

Need to get my boat serviced

Superstition Marine on Apache Trail. I just sold my Sea Ray, but Brian, the owner, has taken very good care of our boat at very reasonable cost.
  16. I've been going through the gyrations of finding something cheap to get into hunting spots. I started by looking into utility quads, but would require more money than I'm willing to spend (family of five). Thought about Jeep Wranglers, but was quickly amazed at how they've held their value, and not really wanting something "tricked-out" for rock climbing. At the advice of a friend, started looking into Ford Broncos in the early to mid '90's. Looks like some pretty good values for under $5,000 on Craigslist. However, in doing some internet research of those year models, they got pretty dismal gas mileage...sometimes into the single digits. Does anyone have any experience with these year models of Broncos? If you have owned one and used them for hunting, would love to hear your feedback, do's/don'ts, etc, a suitable hunting /scouting vehicle. Thanks

Early/Mid 1990's Ford Bronco: Any Feedback?

Wow...I totally forgot about the 4Runner..good suggestion. Obviously, the V-6 would be preferable for making the long drive up the hill from the Valley. Will the 4Runner go most places (terrain-wise) a Bronco will go? Thanks again for the tip.
  18. When I go to AZGFD site to check draw results and points, all I'm shown is my name, address, etc. No point tally...nothing. Anyone else having similar issues?

Early/Mid 1990's Ford Bronco: Any Feedback?

Thanks, Donnie. I'm not fluent in 4WD lingo (this will be my first 4WD vehicle). What are autolockers?

    Rifle cases (2) by Plano

I did a major garage cleaning today, and came across these two Plano rifle cases that I no longer use. $10 for one, or $15 for the pair. I live near Power/Queen Creek Rds in south Gilbert.

I am selling a SKB double bow case will hold two compound bows, 1 bow + 1 rifle, or 2 rifles. Arrow holder holds 18 arrows. The case is in 98% condition: no gouges, mars, or dings. The 2SKB-6002 SKB ATA Double Compound Bow Case is made to ATA 300 Category I specifications, which is the highest shipping container specification of the ATA (Air Transport Association).
