    Credit Card Hit!!!

When do they get done "hitting" the accounts? Is it done all at once, or is it a drawn-out process (no pun intended)? I wish they would send us losers a "Dear John" letter so we don't have to keep checking.

Opening day for General- post your stories/ pics/ unit# here

Nothing new....I got skunked again. In all fairness, I only had one day to scout and hunt.

    Javelina or Snipe????

Just remember, hunting is never "work". It's the required therapy for the other 95% of our crazy lives!

    Just Finished my Elk App

I checked the box "Request guaranteed monster buck".
  5. +1 for the Vortex. I have the Vortex Diamondback 10x42, and love them. Their customer service is unsurpassed, as I recently learned first hand: I lost one of the objective lens covers on a recent hunt. I called and asked how much for a new one? "Notta....we would be happy to send you a free pair". When the package came in the mail, I had a new pair of lens covers, PLUS a nice hat and t-shirt with thier logo on it, along with a nice hand-written note saying "thank you for buying Vortex...we really appreciate your business". I also have one of their rifle scopes, and will probably never buy anything else besides Vortex. IMHO, the best bang for the buck out there. I bought my binos from binoculars.com I believe they cost $230. Free shipping and no tax. Good luck

    Ideas on a quad...

I was in your same shoes about 8 months ago. A friend of mine talked some sense into me. For the price of a SxS, you can get a really nice Jeep Wranger that will go most everywhere a SxS will go, and you will have a roof over your head, a really good heater if you need it, and if there's a demand, it will haul four people versus two. I bought a '99 Wranger back in May, and it has served me well on three hunts. My only regret is that, for the same money, I didn't look into buying a 4x4 truck that would haul a lot more. That's been my only regret. Otherwise, it's been a fun and effective hunt vehicle. Just mey two cents worth.

    Disappointing Hunting

It's the new "all about me" generation. No accountablility, no honor, no integrity. It really gets me down as well. All we can do is keep living the example we want our kids to follow, and hope this societal swing that our goverment is fostering doesn't consume us completely.

    Leaving for elk camp today!!!

Heading up to 4b on Wednesday. My bro-in-law has a family cabin right near Forest Lakes (he has the tag; I'm just along for the ride). Good luck to you all.

    Garmin Oregon 450: Feedback?

I have a Garmin eTrex Hcx that I want to upgrade. Sportsman's Warehouse has the Garmin Oregon 450 (not the 450t) on a Black Friday sale for the price of $199. The closest price I've found is $279 (Costco). Does anyone have experience with this unit? My family and I have also recently gotten into geocaching, and the non-digital compass on our current GPS is a real pain. I'm not too worried about not having base maps, as they're readily available for free online via user groups. Any info appreciated.

    1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport (TJ)

1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport with 4.0 6-cylinder engine. 103,500 miles. 3” lift with 31x10.5 off road tires on stock rims. Front and rear end are stock. Rancho shocks. Manual 5-speed transmission. All fluids (front & rear differential, transmission, transfer case) were replaced with Royal Purple fluids. Rear differential seal and transmission housing were replaced due to leakage; there are now NO leaks at all. A new windshield was installed in May. A brand new BestTop Sailcloth top was installed in July, and is still under warranty. New Class III trailer hitch was installed by U-Haul in September. I bought this vehicle from my hunting partner in May of this year with the intent of using it for a family hunting & camping vehicle. However due to the logistics of hauling gear for five people, I quickly realized that it was the wrong tool for the job, and need to buy a quad-cab 4x4 pickup truck. This Jeep has been babied, and has spent most of its life parked in my garage. I just got back from a 5-day hunt, and it performed like a champ. I’ve only put 2,000 miles on it since May. I am very anal about preventative maintenance, and have all the records and receipts of the work performed on a spreadsheet, which I am happy to share if you’re interested. This Jeep is in excellent shape, and ready to go for four-wheeling. Asking $8,500.
  12. I'm heading down to 36B on Saturday, and was wondering when the rut begins down in the southern units. If I'm not mistaken, the rut begins up north more towards the middle of November, but not familiar with the south. Any comments?

Headed out to 36B in the morning....

I'm heading down Saturday afternoon. I'll be driving a green jeep pulling a utility trailer. I'll be the only guy in a tent, trying to keep rattle snakes and scorpions at bay!

    archery turkey success

After three fruitful scoutings in unit 23, I came back tonight empty handed. Saw all kinds of turkey flocks just before the season, but today, I couldn't find a one. Is this possible because it was the last day of the season and they were already pushed into hiding? Just curious, as this was my first attempt at turkey bow hunting.

    Anyone going for turkey?

I've been up to 23 that past couple of weeks, and have seen a few flocks in the afternoon. Has anyone arrowed a turkey this season? I was thinking of giving it a try; I've never bowhunted turkey.
  18. I was included in a group application, and we were drawn for 36b (deer). Does anyone have any experience hunting in that unit? and do you have any tips? Thanks.

    Anyone going for turkey?

I'm going to head up to 23 on Friday and give it a shot. Was going to go last Monday, but a hotel van driver decided to try and kill me with his reckless driving..ended up in bed for two days. Now...with that being said, I do NOT have a deer tag. With my luck, I'll see a monster buck walk right past me and me with no tag!

Two nice dogs ---- FREE to good home

Don't forget the German Shepard rescue societies. They would love to have such fine animals as these. As someone mentioned, beware of Craigslist...lots of sickos out there looking for bait dogs. And if a guy named Michael Vick says he's interested....RUN!

Glad you asked this question. I was wondering if there were any bacteria or disease that could endanger the dog.

Nice bird! We're heading up tomorrow afternoon. Going to see if anything shakes in the evening.
  25. I'm in a bit of a quandary. I may try an early bow hunt next week, and was just wondering: what are my options for hanging & cooling my meat. I usually do a Michigan hunt in the fall or winter hunt here in AZ, so keeping the meat cool to age is not a problem. What do you all do to age your meat in the late summer months? Obviously, the first step is to get the carcass skinned out, but what then? Are there places with walk-in coolers that will let you hang a carcass for 4-5 days for a small fee? Would enjoy hearing some ideas..thanks.
