    Time for a new rifle.

Good caliber choice, I have done well with mine over the years. I have a Weatherby Vanguard in a different caliber and it shoots very well. The gaurantee 1.5" cold barrel groups and send a target to prove it from the factory. Right now they have a promotion for $399. I don't think you can quit get it in your price range, but my 7Mag is in a Remington model 700 LSS and is a great shooter and sturdy rifle. I have mixed feelings on the SPS model, I have a different caliber in that and it isn't consistent, so my opinion is to avoid that.
  2. I believe that hunt just ended, how did it go?
  3. Stopped by a grocery store and everyone was talking about a white Dodge truck with a monster bull in the back. The truck was sporting a coueswhitetail.com sticker. Who's holding out on us? How about some pictures and a story

    7 West Bull Elk hunt

Its a shame to hit and loose an animal for sure. Its happened to me once several years ago and still makes me sick. Sorry to hear the hunt wasn't real good. I have been hearing that a lot from the other units around 7W, but there was a few hot spots that the bulls were going pretty well the first 4 days of the hunt for sure. Draw the tag again and I will tell you about a spot that seems to be pretty good. Regardless, I hope you had fun and now you know what to spend your money on

    7MM RUM

I shoot a Remington M700 and I got to say the factory Core_lokt PSP 150gr. shoots great out of it, not to mention as proven leathal for deer and elk. The same loads shoot really well out of an old mossberg 7mm I had. I have tried several other combinations have haven't found any as accurate, regardless of price. Good luck

    PSE Omen

The first ones that came out where show bows and mainly PSE dealers had them. They had some noise and feel issues that were fixed prior to hitting the markey offically, which is why it has taken so long to ship out. They feel a little different than the GX, but are pretty nice and worth trying. Some of the ones currently being shipped have the wrong string/cable combo on and you can call in with a serial number to PSE and they will fix it if you want. One in tune is pretty dang nice!

  10. I'm still shooting fixed broadheads, but all my buddies have been using the Rage and trying to convince me to give them a try, but I have also been hearing a lot on the Epek broadheads. Anyone try them yet? My main concern on mech broadheads is not opening up with an arrow entering at a less than perfect angle, which is why I stopped using Vortex along time ago. They are a devistating broadhead until the angle isn'd dead on and then all sorts of funny things happen with them.

    Eberlestock Backpacks

I use the Gunslinger and think it is a great pack. About the only one that I have used that rivals Badlands.
  12. I was just wondering if the "no placing attractents out" rule turned official or what happened with that. I remember a while back there was a lot of discussion on it. Can you place out a salt lick with a camera or is that against the law? A couple guys at work want to set one out to test a new trail cam.

New Rigs??? Archery season is coming!

DubTee, I see you got the X Force with the greater brace height (Dream Season). Did you try the 6" version as well? Just curious how much loss of accuracy there is for the additional 10fps.

    Unit 10 for mulies?

If you think you may have found a hot spot, well....take a look at the success odds over the years. It is a tough hunt. With that said, there are always a few nice bucks taken in the unit each year. Access north of Williams is very limited (private land) but there is a lot of country on the west end that is the type of country you are looking for. Most is private but open to hunting. GL in your decision.

    Need Your Honest Opinions

As stated by others, if you can shoot both, do so. This could be the deal maker for you. If you can't or still can't decide afterwards, you can be sure either way you are getting a great bow. I have not shot the BM, but I know the other PSE bows the last couple years are really nice. The XForce and Brute are good bows for their respective proce ranges. I suspect the BM (any of the 3 versions) will be no different. In the past, PSEs customer service was second to none. Unfortunatly I think they have slipped off a bit since the economy issues. Mathews makes great products and the reezen is no exception. It shoots really good and the majority of the people I know like it a lot. I recommend the bow if you can't decide from the two. Good luck either way.

    draw question

Under the way the draw is SUPPOSE to work (I say suppose because every year somebody tells me they drew a low draw odd tag with a third choice) is if it doesn't say 100% draw (tags left over after everyones 1st and 2nd choices have been considered), then you would not be able to draw it after your second choice. I always put in for my dream tag 1st choice and make a comprimse on my second with a hunt that has better draw odds so I don't go a long time without a tag. Others I am sure would save up and build points for your dream tag, but I would rather have an average hunt than 1 good hunt with a long time between tags. just my way of thinking though.

New Rigs??? Archery season is coming!

There are definitly several real nice new bows out there this year. Its fun to head to an archery shop and shoot them. I like the Elite, Reezen, DXT and X Force GX. The Hoyt AM32 was nice too. I know of a few guys buying new bows this year. It seems the Monster is the most popular, but the XForce GX and Reezen are getting alot ofinterest in my circles. If I were to get a new one, it would be between those two. The accessories out now are equally great and hard to choose.

    unit 8 coues?

With that many points, I sure would think twice about some of the other units that have had big deer killed out of them with better numbers of deer 922, 23, 33). The December hunt had tags cut last year to 25 and I bet the draw odds are pretty low. It doesn't take much with that many tags to make a draw tough. Last year, the access due to snow made a large part of the unit unaccessable. The October hunt is easier to draw but the people I have heard of hunting it wouldn't apply for it again. There are deer there, just not good numbers and lots of thick country to try to locate them in. I don't want to stray you, but am giving you my opinion to really think it over before you apply. good luck with whatever decision and have fun with your elk hunt. Let us know what you decide.

    PSE X Force bow

Reduced to $600 I really could use some cash, but would consider trades for 204, 22-250 or 223 WSSM. Also could be interested in a trade for a Mathews DXT, 29" 60-70# (I could do a double swap with a friend).
