Bow hunting duck broadhead recommendations
Becker replied to Gut Pile's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Big ones!!! I know that Tim Wells guy uses rages for everything. Even birds. I am not a fan of them but they would be good on birds I would think! -
I have the first Polaris RZR that came out. I love the thing. Its had some issues simply due to being the first model. The main issue was their air intake designs and filter. It simply did not work. They have worked out a lot of the bugs though. My only other complaint is ground clearance. The RZR's standard stock model sit rather low. Its great for center of gravity and have had no rolling issues but you bottom out a lot. I put an aftermarket skid plate on it first thing since it comes with a plastic one. I just recently put a 2.5 inch lift on it and with myself and my dad in it the other day we did not bottom out once. We weren't in any nasty stuff but went trough stuff that I thought for sure we would kiss the bottom with. No issues there. The only other draw back that I see with it is that the bed is rather small and it gets hot being that the motor is in the back. But the dang thing is super fast. Probably way to fast. Top speed is 60. It has enough power with the 800 motor to do anything you want. We have taken three elk out with it no problems, and it is a go getter. I drive it like I stole it and have been trying to break stuff on it just to see and so far only major issue was I snapped the anti sway bar in the back but I actually like the ride better without it and I had to replace on of the front hubs.

AWESOME ILENE!!! Saw your pic on Jody's face book. What a B E A utiful DEER!!! Love it. I am a big numbers guy myself. After reading your post I think that I will change how I describe my hunting style when people ask me. DOES score play a big role in what I like to shoot "YES". BUT that is not what the entire hunt is to me. I think that is what a lot of people don't understand about some of us trophy hunters. Just because you are after a trophy animal does not mean that the rest of the hunt is not there. I enjoy just seeing wildlife, the views, everything. Getting out in the hills glassing and just absorbing what you see. For me personally killing a deer is not what it is about. This might sound a bit boastful but its not meant that way, its just the way I feel "Killing a deer is easy, and I could kill one pretty much anytime I would like, given I had a tag." Obviously harvesting a deer is a blast. The HARVESTING is a HUGE part of the hunt. But the thrill for me is finding that upper age class animal. Outsmarting an old ancient wise monster buck. Its really difficult, and that is what makes ME to be a trophy hunter. When I actually accomplish that task, it is really rewarding for me. I believe you can be a "trophy" hunter and still enjoy the hunt the same as any other hunter out there. Its more the state of mind that you have while your in God's country. That does not mean that I only like big high scoring animals. I do believe that every animal is a trophy. Look at the excitement in a young persons eyes when they harvest their first deer or elk and its a doe or cow!!! My brother in law shot a spike this year with his bow and you would have thought he had just shot the new world record. I had so much fun on that hunt with him, it will be a memory of mine for the rest of my life that I would not trade for anything. Thats what it is all about in the end. Its mostly a preference and really to each his/her own. I thoroughly enjoy seeing anybody's successful pictures, no matter the score. I get excited when people bring animals to my shop, their stories, their lessons learned, their experiences, its down right AWESOME!!! I might not shoot a deer in the next five years, or ten for that matter, but it does not mean that I will not enjoy the thrill of looking at them. My respect for these animals is something that I cannot explain. And really at the end of the day all that matters is that you are happy with what you have done and that RESPECT for the animals that we harvest never dwindles. Just my 2 cents!!! AGAIN congrats ILENE on your TROPHY. I am really glad you posted your story the way you did. It does bring the true meaning of why we do what we do to light! -

Any suggestions for a taxidermist to mount a Badger?

Call me! -
I have been using the little covert CA ones with pretty good success. I got one I left out that took a little over 3800 pics. Not sure if the batteries died but the card got full is why it quit taking pics. Night pics are the big factor in battery life seems to me. The CA's run off just 4 double A's. So that is a huge plus for them!

Best way is a covered trailer. Screw some 2 x4 or 2 x2 s to the back of mount and then screw them down to the trailer as mentioned earlier. If its an open trailer I would recommend not covering it. I have had a few guys call me and ask what they can do to fix their mounts because they tried to cover them but the constant flap of the cover and shifting i guess wore some hair off.

Looks like it's going to be a cold one.

Cooler is a PLUS!!! A little rain never hurts. Always find deer up and moving as soon as the rain stops. WIND oh I loath the wind but remember it can concentrate the deer into little pockets. Makes it difficult to find them in the bottoms of draws but can really work to your advantage! -

What a HUNT!!! Love seeing the successful ladies! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! -
akaspecials I really like your approach. Read some leadership and management books about how to communicate with people in confrontational situations and you will see a very common theme. Words, depending on how you use them, can really dictate the outcome of conversation. "Crucial Conversations" is how it was defined in a class that my wife just took, and it was very interesting to listen to her describe to me how simple single words can make people either feel talked down to or the complete opposite. I know most of us are very passionate about our hunting and our ethical opinions, but if we took some time to really think before we type I think a lot more can come out of the conversations vs stating simply "My way or the highway."
