single best improvement to a stock bolt rifle
Becker replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I just went through this with my wife's new rifle. First thing we re-bedded the recoil lug/action, made a night and day difference. I am not sold on their plastic or whatever they are stocks. Kind of cheap. However most of those in my opinion were designed to be a 100 to 200 yard gun which out of the box for that they are great. We like to do some long range shooting though. We also hand load so that helped us out. -
Got Me TOOOOOO!!!!

I would recommend checking out Double H Outfitters. I work with Chris Harlow, part of the Double H. They are constantly breaking the record books in the sheep department. I believe they took the top three awards at the sheep show last week. They currently hold the archery and muzzleloader world records for desert sheep. They are in my opinion the BEST!!! Check them out, give them a call. They are always more than happy to discuss sheep with you!

That last one is cool. Pretty amazing how they can lift up every hair on their body!!!! Makes them look twice as big especially compared with the other buck with his hair laying down!

Second Shot, I believe I just responded to your email. I was down in Mexico for a few days and just returned. Check your email, or swing by the shop, we can discuss everything then.

Yeah i agree the mass Is prob estimated high. The other thing that is hard is because he is so long it makes the mass not look that heavy plus it is not the best picture. I measure almost every Rack that comes into the shop here, and find that there is a 13 to 14 average per antler on big mature bucks. Even light side of 12 your still talking 116!!!! Jim I agree he is a no brainer. Shoot then figure out what he scores. We will see what happens I unfortunately have already missed him once. Dang bows.......

Giant Coues ****B&C Score updated*****
Becker replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
HAHAHA CASEY!!!! Come on I'd Say 90+ All Jokin aside what a monster!!!! Congrats -
Sorry guys but this has bugged me and wanted to get some other opinions So this year I managed to kill a 120- and I have noticed a few people killing 90+ . That means there are lots of deer in between These plus things drive me nuts. The deer have been harvested and the tape does not have a + on it last time I checked. How come we can't ever just get a solid what you measured the deer at. "I JUST SHOT A 115 +" well is it 115 and 2/8 or is it 130 and 6/8. Don't be shy and just post what the heck the deer really scores. Everyone will still be just has happy for you...... Anybody agree or am I just crazy......hahahaha ???

B and C rewards animals for symmetry. So say talking the G2's for a short example, one was 7 the other 5. you have 12 gross inches but only 10 net inches. You would get deducted the extra 2 inches on the seven side for your net score. Basically you take the smallest measurements and double them to get your net score. \ SCI measures everything. You get credit for whatever the animal grew.

HAHAHA THATS TERRIBLE

Bill: I totally agree with you!!! There would not be a book without the names... I just have a different view about what I get from the record books. I am someone who is a score chaser AKA "Trophy Hunter". I am looking for that buck that tips the top of the record books. High scoring deer trip my trigger, Thats me....Always been that way. However I am overly excited about anyone who gets out in the field, score chasers, meat hunters, or weekend warriors, whatever you want to call yourself. All have their place and all should have the same respect for the other. As I mentioned before...TO EACH HIS OWN!!! Get out there and hunt. I mostly wanted to see what everyone's perception of what the + means, more out of curiosity than anything.....It seems more than not, and not bagging on anyone, but most of the people posting the + are those who are really into scores...If they are that into it, post it up hahaha My future posts will all be - And HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS

Uh oh, I was not looking to stir up so much controversy....To each his own (always)...I agree with what everyone is saying. I for one believe that lots of people have lost what the ideas behind record books are or could be. To me, record books are a HISTORY of what beautiful animals have been harvested. More so in my opinion record books are a way to respect and honor the characteristics of that said animal. Just because an animal has more or less antler/horn in no way ever diminishes its value in my mind. Any animal is a true trophy, no matter size. I hear lots of people say oh no I am not going to enter my animal because I am not into that boasting stuff. Its really a shame in my mind that this happens because no one will ever be able to recognize what that said animal is or was. I find myself often looking in the record books, checking out the "scores", pictures, and just admiring those animals for what they are. I am sure that EVERY hunter does. Thats what record books are really about and I wish people could get back into that spirit. I guess over all my topic has changed a little, hopefully my idea came across here for what I was trying to present in the beginning. That is pay respect to the animals in which we harvest, they "score" what they score. Obviously its not all about score, hunting is much more, lets not cloud the waters and let these awesome animals stand alone as they are!!!
