  1. For those of you that have hunted the OTC archery deer hunts in December, I have a couple questions. I'm mainly interested with the desert muleys in south/ central AZ around 2500-3500 ft level. I normally hunt this area in mid January when the rut gets going, but am unfamiliar with hunting them in December. I have some extra time this year (and an unfilled tag), so I'm toying with the idea of making a December trip. So my questions are, what kind of success have you had in December? Any advice for that time of year? (as I'm almost certain that the rut won't be occurring at this time)  Thanks in advance.

  2. Personally I like the Jim White head for my 15's and the occasional use of a 65mm spotter. Keep in mind that the Jim White is a pan head and not a fluid head,  and in my personal opinion is a little too light for the big spotters. You may be happier with a fluid head if you're going to be using big spotters or a large BTX.

  3. I have a 525 carbon that I am very happy with. I can't compare it to the 325, but I feel that it's more stable than my old 3 section Slik (330 amt I think). I use a Jim White head and it's great with the 15's, and works ok for occasional use of a 65mm spotter. If I were going to use a bigger spotter I would want a more robust tripod head, but the tripod itself feels quite stable. One advantage the 525 has is that it collapses to a shorter height which fits in my pack nicely.

  4. Your SX3 should work fine. Just try some different choke tubes and turkey load combinations until you can get the pattern you want. Every gun is going to be different, but an Indian Creek choke with Winchester long beard shells has been excellent on my 870.

I would also suggest adding some sights to your shotgun if it doesn't have them already. I personally like the Hi-viz sights since they show up well in low light, and they are adjustable (as opposed to just a bead front sight).

  5. Does anyone have any experience with using speed nocks vs. not using them on their bowstring? I recently had my bow strings replaced and the tech at the shop talked me out of putting them on the replacement strings, saying that the speed gains aren't enough to worry about putting them on. Are they just for adding some speed, or will they change how the bow shoots? I haven't been able to tell a difference yet in how it shoots, just looking for some second opinions on the subject.

The bow in question is a PSE Source HD. Below is a picture of the weights in question:
