  1. Anyone have suggestions on new 5 gallon gas cans? I need to replace some old gas cans (plastic has gotten brittle and about to crack), but the new gas cans I'm seeing all have some sort of cumbersome safety nozzle on them. The last 5 gal can I bought was a joke. You have to hold down a lever to make the gas flow while holding the can up, and has a vent in the nozzle that doesn't work very well so the flow was a trickle at best. It took about 10 minutes to empty a 5 gallon can. It seems like buying a gas can ought to be a simple thing, but trying to find some without the safety nozzle is proving difficult. Does anybody still make a gas can with a regular nozzle?

  2. I have a Traeger 22 that gets used on a regular basis and I'm quite happy with. Haven't used the other brands mentioned so can't comment there. I recently had to replace the hot rod ignitor on mine and while looking at replacement parts I noticed that some parts (auger motor, hot rod, air fan, etc.) were interchangeable with Traeger and some Pit Boss models. I'm sure there's exceptions out there, but it surprised me that the components are interchangeable. Makes me wonder if there's much difference between brands.

  3. I changed mine from the 12 volt marine battery to running two 6 volt golf cart batteries connected in series. My last set of T-105 golf cart batteries went 4.5 years before needing replaced, much better lifespan than the marine batteries. I also use a small Harbor Freight solar charger when the trailer isn't in use to help keep the voltage up.

  4. I guess I should have specified, but yes, it's just the factory head that isn't that great for glassing. The adjustments for tilt and pan are rather crude. The tripod itself is great for glassing... I've just upgraded to carbon fiber to save a little weight.

  5. Not a 357 Mag, but I used to hunt them with a 38 Spl. I was usually able to get within 30 yards of the herd, and at that range it was plenty to put one down. My favorite bullet was the Sierra 140 gr HP, but factory 125's and 130's did fine too at those short ranges. If you choose a holster for your belt make sure that it sits below the lumbar belt on your pack (if your pack has one). They're lots of fun with a revolver. Here's one from several years ago

  6. The boot laces on my Danner Pronghorns finally gave out after 7 years and a lot of miles. The Danner brand replacement laces I purchased are pretty wimpy feeling and small in diameter compared to what originally came with them. Does anyone have any suggestions for good replacement laces?

    Thanks
