Need a rifle rest? Try a Rifle Railz Gen2
azhuntnut replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Store
We haven't personally installed a Rifle Railz on a Venture, but based on the configuration of your rifle and the research I did on the action, it will fit. -
Thinking of buying the Leica 1600b. I would like to hear opinions from guys that own one. What do you think of the ballistic program? I have had a Leica in the past and liked the optics and red image. David

What do you mean by modified? David

My son Ryan drew his first deer tag this year, and it was a good one. He got one of 50 tags available for the late hunt in December. My schedule prevented me from putting in the amount of time I normally scout, so we didn't have any deer picked out before the hunt started. We hunted the first three days of the hunt, but we were only seeing small deer hanging with the doe's and very little rutting activity. We got a chance to run back up this past Wednesday just for the day, but still didn't find a shooter. We went back up Thursday night and got up early and started glossing the flats from a small knoll and within a couple minutes I picked up some doe's. I had to move down the hill to get around some trees and finally picked up the buck and knew it was a shooter. We had to get down to the flats and get out in front of the herd to get the wind in our face. We slowly started working our way back towards the area where I found the herd like we were archery hunting. I finally picked up a doe moving through the trees after a half hour of a slow stalk. We sat down right there hoping the herd would work its way into us. After thirty minutes had passed, we had 6 doe's feeding at 25 yards in front of us and I still couldn't see the buck anywhere. One of the doe's noticed us and took off taking the rest with her. She ran back towards the rest of the herd and that's when the buck stepped out of the trees. I grabbed the rifle already attached the our tripod and moved over about ten feet to get a clear shot. The buck started to move slowly trying to figure out what was going on. Ryan knelt down and got in behind the rifle and got set up on him. As the buck moved forward I gave a little doe bleat and he stopped right behind a prickly pear broadside. There was one pad in front of his vitals, but Ryan was able to put a perfect shot right in the heart at 110 yards. We walked up to where the buck was shot and I found the hole where he had shot through the pad and Ryan started tracking blood from there. I was amazed at the amount of blood averywhere. The buck made it about 6 yards and expired. He walked up to the deer in amazement and I couldn't have been more proud at that moment. Ryan is the first person to kill a big game animal using our second generation Rifle Railz Hybrid bolt action tripod mount. He has a jr. pig hunt in about three weeks and I can't wait to do it again. Toby, Thanks for posting the pic and video. It looks like on the video he was in some thicker vegetation than where he was shot. I shot a deer in the same area over ten years ago just over the ridge from where I was glassine. I have been hunting around there since 92. David

Thank you for all the compliments and likes. Here is a picture of the pad. He was shooting a 243 and Hornady Superperformance 95g SST. It broke his leg on the opposite side. David Toby, By any chance did you get any video or pics of this buck? My video camera battery died before I could get any footage.

Our Rifle Railz works great for kids also. Improves stability and reduces recoil. -

Weighs only 3 ounces, plus you can still open the bottom metal to access ammo or insert magazine. Nothing extra to carry or squeeze together the stock of your rifle. Does not change point of impact after installation or require any drilling or additional holes. -
Great story. I expecially like the Arizona history and picture. David

I normally hunt every January with a bow and arrow, but decided this year to give a rifle a try since I have been fighting a shoulder injury for some time now. I have shot over 20 pigs with a bow, but I have never hunted them with a rifle. I hunted all weekend with DCA helping some junior hunters, so I didn't have a chance to hunt. I forgot I even had the tag until yesterday so I jumped in my rig this morning and headed to a spot I had never been before. I found pigs high up on a mountain about 3/4s of a mile away. I started my climb and would stop every once in a while when I thought I was close. I finally noticed one at 45 yards. I got my phone out and started taking a little video. I went ahead and attached my rifle to my tripod waiting for a good shot when I noticed the wind change and they were getting nervous. One ran off and got the rest of the herd on high alert. I picked one out of the group and shot him using my sons .243 that I had loaded with some 85 grain Barnes TSX bullets. He ran down hill about ten yards end over end. I wanted to use my Creedmoor I recently built, but my loads for it weren't quite ready. David No, the gun isn't pointed at my head. It's just the angle of the picture.

I built a 6.5 Creedmoor on a Gary Eliseo chassis. He is located in Cottonwood and has several configurations. I really like the fact that you can use AR furniture on it. He can recommend what action will work best, but mine is a custom built left hand eject from Xtreme Machining. I'm going to build my next one on an MDT chassis. David https://mdttac.com http://www.gotxring.com/hunting/. Here is a link to the one I built. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/55317-building-my-65-creedmoor-chassis/?hl=eliseo

Anybody in north Peoria or Glendale interested in trading your WLR primers for either Fed215 or Rem 9 1/2m. I'm working up a new load and want to try the WLR and see if there is any difference in accuracy over the others. David

How far are you guys loading the X's off the lands? I am .0015 off right now and they are a little erratic. I have one load that is stringing left to right touching. I think I have to just decrease the OA to tighten them up. These bullets sure are long. These are loaded at 2.975 sitting next to a loaded .243 at 2.81. David

Has anybody seen this article? It sounds like it would change the laws here in Az, unless I'm reading it wrong. David http://thebostontribune.com/federal-government-changes-minimum-hunting-age-18/

6.5 creedmoor powder choice
azhuntnut replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have used H4350 and RL-17 with great success. I just recently got my order of ELD-X bullets and plan on loading them with the RL-17. I found my barrel likes the faster burning powder since it is only 20 inches. The longer barrels seem to really like the H4350 around 41.5-42.5, or 2750-2800 fps. David -
Do yourself a favor and buy a K&M primer pocket uniformer, flash hole uniformer, and the single stage primer seater. You can adjust the seater to provide the depth you want on the primer. It is even faster than my RCBS. While your at it, also get the VLD chamfer tool since you are loading VLD or ELD bullets. David http://kmshooting.com
