Thanks for the reply. When I spoke to the forest service last year they said they had to hire an engineer to come up with a way to fix the washout. They don't have the funds for that so I doubt it will ever open again. David

Has anybody been down the Workman Creek road lately? I was wondering if the opened the metal gate just past the last campground. David

Flagstaff area CWT get together BBQ!
azhuntnut replied to Lance's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
If nothing changes in my schedule, I am going to try and shoot up there Friday night. If not Friday, then I will be there Saturday. David -
I headed back into my honey hole to try and find the other side of a shed I found last weekend. I went back into an area that usually has a few elk and found three bulls hanging together. I got a pic of this one, but if you look close you can see two others in the pic. The middle one is even bigger with some good mass already. My batteries died on my camera, so I couldn't get anymore pics. I kept walking back in a little further and found another bull. While heading back out to the truck I saw two more. These bulls don't get hunted much during the season, so I hope they get big enough to take one of them. David This one is a 4x4. The bigger one is 4x4 also, but with more length and width.

I am going to put in the effort this season and try to beat the score of my last bull. I know there are some big boys hanging in my unit, and I hope to find at least three bulls before the season and then keep and eye on them all summer. I will be up there again in a week and a half checking cameras and will try to get some video of these bulls. David

video from my trail camera
azhuntnut replied to azhuntnut's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
These are just the cheap moultrie cams. I think they are only 2.1 magepixals, and I bought them on clearance over a year ago for about fifty bucks a piece. They will take a ten second video, and then will do stills at night when the flash is used. They have some better ones at Walmart that are $100. I have four of them and have found that some have a better trigger time, but I just set them up to take a pic directly in front of the camera. I even had some video of some people riding by on horses that were at least fifteen yards away when the camera triggered. David -
I checked my camera yesterday and found some good video. I only had it out seven days and got these. When the video starts, click on the full size in the left corner to get a better view. I got this picture this morning when I was getting ready to load up everything to come home for the weekend. Now I just need a sticker for the back of my trialer and I will have my stuff covered. David

I remember fishing that lake all night back in the 80's, and then driving down to Mormon the next day for day of big pike fishing. I caught a huge pike out of Mary in 91. I was going to take my boys there this weekend, but I think it is going to be to busy. Did you have any elk come down and water next to you? That used to always scare the crap out of me. David

I was scouting my secret hunting area on Sunday and found this one laying right out in the open. I think that is a good sign that nobody else has been in there. I set up one of my cameras on a pond with some salt. I know there is a big 6x6 in the area and want to see how he is growing this year. I also checked out a new spot that a local told me about two years ago, and it looks like a elk barnyard. I put up a camera there also. Hopefully I will have some good pics next weekend. David My 4 yr old Ryan. He can't wait to start hunting.

Can you say OUCH!!
azhuntnut replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Try filling up 81 gallons of diesel and see how that feels. For the lazy, that is $235.00. But I don't have to stop for fuel while hunting or scouting. It comes in real handy when you go hunting over on the San Carlos. David -
I switched to the vertical a couple years ago, and I love them. I also have the trophy ridge Matrix and prefer the ease of sighting and moving the pins if you switch to different arrows. Plus you can see much more of the animal when sighting. David

Flagstaff area CWT get together BBQ!

I have to be at the new Bass Pro Shops to train some of there people on the 8th, but I hope to be up north on that weekend. Is it still going to be at Marshall Lake? David -
I personally own three of the Burris fullfield scopes, and would not recommend them due to black particles of something showing up in all three scopes. I sent one back and they sent out a new one. After a few shots, the same thing happened. Nikon is coming out with a new scope this year that will have a larger eye objective on the front of the scope in order to let in more light. I am going to pick up one in the 6.5-20 with the BDC reticle when they hit the shelves. Plus you can't beat the 25 year no fault warranty. David

No More Motorized Retrieval Az Big Game
azhuntnut replied to rthrbhntng's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
When I shot my bull two years ago, it would have been impossible for me to carry all of it out on my back before the meat spoiled. Those early September hunts are still to hot to let the meat hang. Even having a quad to help, it still took me an hour to get it out. David -
I tried calling Steve that night, but he didn't answer. I wanted to meet a fellow member. I live right across the street from him, so stop by next time you are over. David

I own a 12 foot aluminum with my brother and thought he would want to trade for your gun, but I guess we have to many guns right now. I just bought a 14 foot, so I think we are just going to sell the 12 footer. Sorry for the inconvenience. David

What size boat are you looking for? David

I already had several pairs of Nikons and decided to purchase a pair of there 10x42LXL's last year, and I like them more than the Swaro's. They feel better in my hands, and are a touch brighter than the Swaros, at least through my eyes. I am going to pick up a pair of the 8x36's pretty soon to use on my elk hunt. I am also sending back a couple pairs for scratches on the lenses. I am sure I will have the same great service as you did. David

I thought I would post this here for anybody who would like to string this boy up. I am still trying to decide what type of remark to add to the topic. I have read some of his posts before and he always seems to get under somebodys skin. David http://www.azodchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13921

Any More Cool Trail Cam Pics
azhuntnut replied to GameHauler's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
These are from my property up north. I made these corn feeders out of pvc pipe, and they seem to bring the deer in every night. I am going to make some more out of 4in pvc so the elk can get there head inside. Those coons look nice and chunky. David -
It is the same broadhead, but the first broadhead came apart on impact from the steel. It was like going through butta when I shot it into the cow bone. No more testing Jimmy, unless I get bored this week . David
-
This is a 100 grain stinger four blade with the bleeder shot out of a PSEEEEEEEEEEEEE stl. The arrow is a carbon express terminator select and weighs 480 grains including the broadhead. The arrow was traveling at 255 fps. That puts my arrow at about 70lbs of kinetic energy. I wanted to test it and see just how strong these heads were just for fun. You can see the thickness of the metal in the pic. I figured the head would explode, but I wanted to see the durability of the main blade. I don't think I will have any problem splitting bone on any elk this season. I used a stinger on my last bull and had great results. This blade was as dull as a butter knife before I shot it because of a miss last year at one of my targets. It actually went through my fence and into a tire. David

I thought I would add to this test, so I had a hip bone from a cow and set it up in front of my Mckensie javelina. I shot it from the same distance, using the same arrow. The blade was a little sharp, but nothing I would use for hunting. It penetrated through the bone and then out of my javelina by about five inches. I then tried shooting it at a shovel, but hit it at the bend in the middle of the head and it caused it to skip off instead of penetrating. This destroyed the head and my arrow. David
