    swaro vs leica

I don't have the binos, but I do own a Swaro spotting scope that is very clear and bright. I am looking to buy some new binos also. Who has the best deal on the EL's right now? They need to be an authorized dealer. David
  2. Is this a trail cam picture? He must be slowly bleeding inside. The bull in the background has a nice rack. David

    Trade Coues hunt ofr Antelope

This was the worst year I have ever had pig hunting. Everytime I went out to my spot where there is a resident pig herd, a quail hunter would be in the area and spook the pigs. It didn't matter if I went on a weekday or weekend, they were always there. I would glass the pigs in the morning and start to make a stalk and then a quail hunter would pop up out of no where and spook them. I did chase a big muley for a couple days, but then all of the sudden the rut stopped and he was gone. I had a sixty yard shot at him one morning, but had a few bushes in the way. He was a nice 4x5 with tall back tines. Have your dad put in for the muzzleloader hunt, he might have a better chance at getting drawn. How has he been doing, any better? Check out the latest Arizona Outdoorsman for my article about my elk I shot in Sept. Have a good one. David

    Trade Coues hunt ofr Antelope

I keep hearing there aren't any deer in unit 33. How have you been Rolando? I haven't heard from you in a while. For those of you who haven't had the chance to hunt with Rolando, you are missing out on a great hunt. He has no problems finding trophy deer and cooking back at camp in great. You won't be sorry making this trade. David

  6. That dude used up all of his lives on that hunt. I just can't believe the lion didn't do more damage to him. David

    New pictures...

Man those bulls are big. The biggest bull I have ever seen was near Point of Pines. Tons of bears by Dry Lake area. I need to get back over there and try to shoot one of those huge cats. Where is the best place to hunt for them on the Rez? I plan on calling one in. David

    Desert Bull - Identity Exposed!

I thought I was the only one that did the shirt over my head trick while glassing. I tried using a black shirt on Friday and it was even better. David

    Did I hit it?

Here is a link with info about the light. Its amazing how well the ultraviolet light works. David http://www.streamlight.com/tt3c_uv.htm

    Did I hit it?

You will usually here a "thwack" type of sound when you connect. Something I bought this year was a flashlight that can see blood at night time just in case I have to make a recovery after dark. Keep looking for that arrow. If you made a hit, it will be close by. Start checking in the trees just behind where you shot the deer. David

    Scent Cover-up Quesition

Just this past elk season I tried something new. After washing my cloths in some type of scent remover, I dried my cloths with some of those scent wafers from hunter specialties. They were the ones that smell like cow elk urine. And let me tell you, IT STINKS. I actually had the wind at my back when the whole herd came into me and did not detect my scent. Throw a few of the wafers on yours cloths and hat for extra protection. I would have to say that it works. Just make sure your wife isn't home when you do it or you might be sleeping in the garage that night. I think I used a whole box of cloths freshener to get that smell out of the dryer. I just tried some of my cloths today in mule deer urine to get ready for a hunt on Friday. I will tell how it turns out. David
  13. Has anybody seen or heard of a small camera I can connect to my bow and run the wiring to my video recorder in my pack, and then be able to record my own hunts? I had seen one years ago that was mounted inside of a hat, but can't find anything now. I also have a Canon digital camera (S2 IS) that I could connect to that I could record onto a 1gb SD card. It takes excellent video and would be easier to download onto my computer. If you have any ideas, feel free to pass them along. David

    Digiscopin'

Jimmy, I noticed if I stay below 30 power and then zoom all the way in using my camera seemed to make my pictures a little better. I think I also have my camera set on 100ISO. I just bought a new Canon S2 IS, but haven't had a chance to take any pics through the scope yet. It has an image stabilizer that is really supposed to help take some nice pics. Plus it takes some great video. Might be something to look at as a future camera. David

    Muley hunting

I picked up a Primos original can and a buck grunter last night. I also found some scent that is supposed to be an attractant for mule deer. I am going back up Friday morning to give them a try. Thanks for the advice. David

    Muley hunting

I found a nice muley on Sunday while hunting for pig. I followed him for about three hours and he seemed to stay in the same general area. He had about 7 does with him, but didn't seem to be showing any rutting activity. I am going to try and hunt him this weekend and had a few questions. Has anybody tried putting out any type of scent that seemed to be a good attractant? I want to set up my double bull blind and hunt from there. I wanted to put something out that might hold him close to the blind. What about a doe bleat? Any suggestions would help me out alot. There are two other bucks hanging around the group, but no fighting going on. David

I actually have even more of that rodent and quail in the same pics. He was on at least five pics alone. The quail are in there all of the time.
  18. I set my camera up on a water seap I found last weekend while crawling around in the thick stuff trying to find out where the pigs were bedding down. I did some calling in this area last year and called in a fox and bobcat, but did not have a weapon with me. I was hoping to have pics of the bobcat and fox, but only got the fox and tons of pigs, plus the wrong end of a skunk. I took one of my buddys along with me this weekend who has never shot an animal with his bow and got him real close to some of the pigs, but it was a sharp down hill angle, so I told him not to shoot. We were right above them for about two hours, sometimes only about ten yards just watching them wrestle with eachother and napping. I finally decided to take shot when they moved out of the thick brush that was down in the river bed. It was exactly forty yards, but I forgot to adjust for the downhill angle and shot about three inches over his back. I am kind of glad I missed so I can go again next weekend. I attached my digital camera to my bow, so hopefully I will have a video of the kill shot next weekend. I forgot to turn it on when I took the shot yesterday, otherwise I could have shown the missed shot. David

    Trail camera pics

More pics from this week. I think there is a lion hanging close to the area, since I didn't get anymore pics of the pigs after the 9th. Plus I couldn't locate them all day on Saturday. I spoke with a guy in the area and he told me he saw a lion cross the highway about a mile from where I am hunting. David

  21. AZ, I live off of Loop 101 and central, but I was on my way to pick up my fifth wheel at my grandfathers house off of 70th and union hills. David
  22. Yeah that was the truck. I didn't see you until you were coming past me. I didn't hear the horn, otherwise I would have waved to you. Bass, let me know when you are ready to lift your truck. I will get you set up with Offroad Unlimited. AZ, what part of town do you live in? David
  23. I saw one last week on the loop 101 right around 67th ave. It was on the back of a red truck, but I can't remember what kind. David

KP, We were actually standing right above them yesterday. This is at the bottom of a deep river bottom with boulders on both sides. We were just standing on the boulders looking down on them. David
