A friend of mine told me that on opening morning last year on his elk hunt, one of there guides showed up with four clients to hunt the same area. David

I haven't decided. I plan on looking at some different mounts down at sportmans warehouse to get an idea. David

Big Muley, Randy Ulmer's 2005 Deer
azhuntnut replied to Kaffer62's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
He actually saw this buck when he was on his elk hunt in Nevada. He went back into the same area before his deer hunt and the deer was still there. He found it on the first day of the hunt, but couldn't make a good stalk on the deer. I think he ended up shooting it on the third day at 45 yards. I am told he can shoot a paper plate at 100 yards with a broadhead. This guy is so hardcore. I hope someday I can be a quarter of the hunter he is. David -
This picture was when I was leaving to go home. I felt so proud to have those horns hanging out the back of my truck. I got alot of thumbs up. I stuffed his hide into a rubbermaid garbage can and put twelve bags of ice inside and all around the head. David

Thanks guys for all the replys. I am so excited about shooting this bull. I shot this bull near Flagstaff. I hope to get a score on him tomorrow, but I am guessing close to 360 inches. He is seven on one side and six on the other. The side with six also has a two inch kicker on his eyegaurd and a one incher on his fourth. He broke off about 8-9 inches fighting. His eyegaurds are 21 inches and one of his fourths are over 22 inches. Both beams are around 52 inches. I pulled a rack out of my garage that I found from a bull four years ago about four miles from this area and it carried the same genetics as mine. Plus I have a picture of another bull within a mile of this one that also carries the same type of rack. Based on the type of bulls I have seen this season, I think a new state record will be shot. I do know for sure there is a bull in another unit that will go over 400 inches.

I have a great wife also. She has given me 10 days to hunt during my elk season, and hasn't said a word about me going up scouting almost every weekend. I don't think she has ever told me one time not to go hunting, well maybe one time when we had just had our second baby and I went bear hunting two days later, I couldn't resist. When I was having trouble spending all that money on a new Swaro spotting scope, she said: "just go get them and quit talking about it" now you can't ask for anymore than that. David

You could here the lungs deflating . I think I will do a full body mount on this one. I think the tire is only 2 ply, but this tire was almost ten yards behind my target. I am just glad it didn't hit my big quad trailer with the nice tires. I think I got lucky since this was the last day of tire season. David

How can we purchase one of these stickers? David

I brought my bow in to have the sight squared and had to go back out to my truck to get my release. When I came back in the kid was shooting my bow in the back, when I started to walk back there I heard what sounded like a dry fire, as I walked around the corner he was throwing my arrow down the lane. I asked him if he dry fired it and he said he didn't know. I got the manager involved and they both tried to take it apart and fix it, but I told them they just bought a new bow, like there sign says next to the new bows. So that is how I got a new PSE primos stl. I should have told them to give me mach 10, but I wasn't thinking. David

PSE Primos STL set at 70lbs/29in draw Vital Impact carbon arrow-385 grains with 100g broadhead=289fps Carbon Express carbon-487 grains with 100g broadhead=255fps My PSE mach 8 I had before Sportsmans Warehouse dry fired it, would shoot the same Carbon Express arrow at 487grains 282 fps and you could sneeze during the shot and still hit the target(very forgiving).

Have you had a chance to check out this video? Its pretty exciting. Make sure you enlarge the screen. This is not for the weak hearted, you have been warned. http://www.redban.com/video/coyotee.wmv

I am trying to decide which broadhead I am going to use this elk season. I have narrowed it down to three, but I am looking for some feedback on personal experience with any of these broadheads. I am currently using carbon express arrows that wiegh 485 grains including the 100 grain head. These heavier arrows have slowed my arrow speed down to 250fps. I recently also changed my fletching to the blazers. I am searching for a head that will perform like my field points and have great penetration, but leave a good blood trail. I know I am asking for alot, but I have done some research on these and they seem to be what I want, but I can't decide. 1. Magnus Stinger 100g 4 blade w/bleeders-cut on impact http://www.magnusbroadheads.com/ 2. Triton Wac Em 100g 3 blade-somewhat cut on impact http://www.wacemarchery.com/ 3. Slick Trick 100g 4 blade bullit style tip http://www.slicktrick.net/ What do you think? David

I think I have found the bull I want to hunt. It is hard to tell from the pick, but I think he is between 350-360. His daggers are about 24 inches and his thirds are about the same size as his seconds. He also has a long whale tail. I thought I had the video going, but in my excitement I didn't hit record. He left his calling card on some of the trees. The guy in the pick is over six foot. David

elk photos from scouting
azhuntnut replied to azhuntnut's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
You guys should have heard him tearing up the trees. It sounded like somebody was driving a truck through the forrest. When I first spotted the herd, I did not see him. He was in some thick thick timber and then started the raking. When he finally came out I was amazed at his size. These pictures don't do him justice. I am going to follow him around all of next weekend and then try to get back on him the 14th and hopefully find him on the 16th. David -
Has anybody had the opportunity to try this call during the elk season? I picked one up today and tried it, but thought it was a little loud. I think I like the hoochie mama better. What type of reaction did you get from the elk? Thanks, David.

I put out some new salt a while back and set my trail camera on it and had elk hitting the salt within 1 day and two mule deer were hitting it on the second day. Every salt lick I have put out this year has been hit within a day of starting it. I put one out about a month and a half ago and all 27 pictures on my roll were used the first two days. I came back and put in a new role on Saturday morning and then decided to change my camera location the same evening and my camera already had six pictures on it. I also have been using those salt blocks with the berry taste to them(taste ooooooooh so good). David

Jack, I am not familier with the power station. Can you give me an idea where to pull of the road to get to it. Thanks, David

Thanks Chris, I will check it out. David

bowhunter4life, What type of bow were you using? Can you give me the arrow weight and speed along with what type of broadhead(weight)? I know you mentioned it didn't go far, but was there a good blood trail? I am interested how your broadhead performed on the deer, that is the reason for all the questions. David

Based off of my last years figures, I will end up spending $1300.00-$1600.00 more this year than last. Plus business is slower due to other companies cutting back. It is going to cost me $72.00 to fill my truck today(diesel). I wish they would come up with a bio-diesel that isn't so expensive and hard on my injectors. Diesel cost the least to refine, but they are charging to most for it right now. It has been costing me a ton to go back an forth to Flagstaff scouting for my elk hunt. David

I almost spit my drink all over the computer when I saw it. -
Well now my question is, how have you gotten drawn that many times? What is the secret? What type of blood trail did you experience with the Rockys? I went and looked at the Wac em's and Stingers last night. I really like the design of the Wac em's. I don't see anyway this tip could curl back or have any problems with penetration. I think I am going to give them a try. I am also going to pick up a pack of Stingers and see how the fly. David

I ended up taking my shafts to corner archery and letting them put some of the blazers on. So far I am very happy with these. They are quiet and seemed to help my arrow speed. I am shooting a 485 grain arrow and needed all the help I could get. David
