Don't let the length of the barrel discourage you. I bought one of those H&R rifle ($219) last year to just throw in the truck with me. It came with a 20in. barrel calibered for 223. This little sucker shot so good I ordered a .243, .270, and 50 caliber black powder barrel for it. The .243 is dead on at 300 yards using factory ammo. The best part about it, is that the whole set-up weighs about 6lbs including scope. I now carry this rifle instead of my Browning A-bolt stainless stalker with a muzzle break. I have never had the chance to shoot a Tikka, but have heard nother but good remarks about them. David

I spoke with the g&f officer tonight and he told me that the area behind the prison is closed now. Apparently it is private property and somebody(people who don't care about loosing hunting areas) kept leaving the gates open. Game and Fish is trying to work something out right now, but I doubt it will be open by the time my hunt comes around.

I shot this one on the 16th in unit 20c at 28 yards using a PSE Primos. I used an expandable this year called a Snyper, it works great. I found this herd of pigs a week earlier, but was just glassing and didn't have my bow with me. I tried calling, but called in a fox instead. I messed aroung with him for about ten minutes and then had a bobcat come out and chase the fox. After he chased the fox for about 10 yards it turned and came right up the hill to my position. I tried throwing a rock at it when it was at 10 yards, but it just kept coming. I then jumped up and yelled and that made it stop at about ten feet. That cat just stood there and stared at me wiggling its tail. I am going to go back up there and try to get it another day. Hopefully my picture of the pig shows up in my post.

I also drew a tag, but it is rifle in unit 31. I haven't been scouting yet, but I hope they are out already. I hunted this area two years ago and was unsuccesful. If anybody wouldn't mind passing along some advice on where to possibly start looking in unit 31, please let me know. I have limited time to get down there and scout. It would be greatly appreciated.
