At least it isn't tag soup
bigorange replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Good eatin'...and remember your tag says "any antlered deer" so a unicorn counts. -
Nice buck...congrats! The random shots from the deer drivers is pretty scary though.

Got a leftover in 35A this year, so hopefully will have some good news and photos to share in a few weeks. Looking at your photos I sure hope so.

The forum and the website are blocked sites at my work, but doesn't necessarily make me more productive daydreaming and sometimes cruising the forum on my phone. Good luck to all this weekend...not my turn until 11/4. Heading to the range today and hoping it might be dead there.

Awesome buck, especially for the first one. Good luck on the second tag and can't wait for the stories. -
Nice buck and great way to make it a family hunt. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to hunt with me. Took my 6 year old scouting for coues today and he loved it.

I seem to have an affinity for drawing tags in burned areas this year. Looking for some general areas to start scouting for the early November hunt in 35A after I get back from 27... Any places you could recommend to start scouting? Thanks!
-
That's the plan...gonna be down there tomorrow in fact. Just looking for good starting points. Thanks for the info about the burns. Good news.

When I was 12 or 13 on my first junior deer hunt in TN, sitting in a treestand opening morning. As soon as deer entered the corn field, I proceeded to lose my breakfast off the side of the stand. This was over 20 years ago and safety harnesses were not widely in use, but my uncle threatened to buy me one for Christmas since he had to grab my shirt because he thought I was going to fall out of the stand. He still kids me about that hunt. I made up for it the next year by dropping my first deer, a nice basket 3x3, out of the same stand on opening morning.

Congrats to your little brother on his first elk. Sounds like a great hunt...thanks for sharing.

Agree..I've used this and it's pretty handy. Works very well with the Nikon BDC scopes.

Thanks all for the tips. Will be souting down there this weekend and definitely checking the areas recommended. Hopefully some pics to post soon. Any other thoughts or recommendations would definitely be appreciated.

Might leave it in the truck or drop it, but I can shoot my release with several broken fingers. Scott Wildcat by the way...

Great story and great bull. Congratulations and thanks for sharing! That's what it's all about...I think a lot of us get hung up on the numbers too often.

That's awesome! Congratulations! I need to pick up some judo points...

Congrats! What a great experience to share with your daughter. I'm sure my little girl will want a pink gun like that in a few years.
-
Wow...congratulations on hanging in there and respecting the bull enough to finish the job!
-
Gotta agree. I had the same hunt...it was definitely hard hunting in 27 this year and a lot of us got skunked.

Nice...what does that one score?
