  1. It all started a few years back when both my boys drew this same tag. My older boy James  tagged out at first light opening day, leaving us with the rest of the hunt to focus on getting Darren on one. Well  he had several opportunities but just couldn’t close the deal. Fast forward to this year Darren wanted redemption, unlike the previous tag this hunt started out slow. It was hard to locate elk with crummy weather ,so we called on our “ace in the hole” Nate who was a huge help before , and he came through for us again locating a small herd. We got to within 350yds and Darren let the 270wsm bark, we hear the “thwack” and knew right away it was a hit. The cow drops and we think she is done, but then she stands back up and we see that the shot was in the front shoulder but a little to far forward. We decide to back out and spent the entire next day tracking her with no luck other than finding the blood trail and where she bed the night before, we tracked her into a huge canyon for about 1 1/2 miles from where she was bedded. Two days later we  got into another herd with the bulls having a screaming contest. And we were able to get 120yds from one of the cows Darren let her have it and she didn’t make it 50yds and crashed! F5BDB89D-466D-4A02-8513-0B8BE7210C9F.thumb.jpeg.06665e072eaddc133d373f88a78f301d.jpeg

Check out the video I made of the hunt. I just started uploading to this channel, hopefully there’s more to come.

  2. First of thanks to Nathan for all of his help and to those here who offered up some advice. We had an awesome time on this hunt even though James tagged out in the first 20 minutes of light on opening morning my younger son Darren also had a tag and missed a few shots he had a blast hearing all the bugles and seeing a lot of elk. I put together a video of the hunt unfortunately I couldn’t get the shot.

  3. So my two boys drew junior elk cow tags in unit 3a/3c this is the first time I’ve ever set foot in this unit. I have been scouting the unit a few times since we found out they were drawn and have pretty much gotten skunked except for seeing a lot of sign in one area to catching a glimpse of what looked like an elk running into to pines .  If anyone has any info that would help me out I’d greatly appreciate it, feel free to pm me thanks .

  4.

That is Mt Graham in the background. I guess I could've blurred the background but 28 is a huge unit with plenty of deer.

you could have driven that buck to that spot from far away.

The way Rod made it sound it was a zoo with all the side by side traffic in there on the weekend so they pretty much drove the buck to the canyon we've been glassing.

  5. Well after many years my buddy Rod finally got a chance to take a trophy mule deer.

He has been chasing bucks all weekend with many close calls but no good shot opportunities. So this morning I picked him up early and got to our glassing point before daylight and found this buck just as the sun was coming up. After a short stalk Rod put the buck down at 100yds at exactly 6:58am.

  6. Well after 2 yrs not getting drawn my son finally connected with this buck at 550yds. I've been watching this buck for a few weeks prior to the opener. Like clock work he was in the same general area that I've seen him in. Big thanks to Xavier, Tino, Reggie and Pete for once again being there to help out these guys are like coues magnets and a huge help with packing him out.
