My first Antelope tag and I was able to fill it!
AZHUNTER05 replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Antelope Hunting
It's tough to say how the decoy worked. I only used it once and that was when I shot my buck. I had good cover so they didn't see me stalking in, however they did spot me a few times in the open and they never alerted. So I would say it kept them a lot less alert. The Montana decoy works about once or twice, then they figure it out. The hat is way easier to use because it's hands off. The Montana decoy needs two people and it's though to use in the wind. -
Oldest Arizona bear you'be ever harvested?
AZHUNTER05 posted a topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I was lucky enough to harvest me first bear in 2014! After months of waiting I found out that the sow I killed was 9 years old, which I believed to be an older bear. My buddy also harvested a bear this year and Game and Fish estimated it to be 23 years old! Now I'm curious to see if anyone has killed a bear older then 23? So, if you've harvested a bear in Arizona please post the the age G&F provided you. This should be a cool thread. -
I personally think they should keep a certain number of tags for residents only. It sucks seeing all these tags going to nonresidents.
-
It's 100% legal.
-
Those elk will stop hitting that tank 2 weeks before the hunt! I drew that tag in 2012 and 2013 and had 13 bulls coming in every day and two weeks before opening day they vanish!

+1 on the tablet. That's what I use.

It's not a matter of feeling hurt. It's about what is an ethical shot without wounding and losing an animal because you watched a video or saw a friend get an animal with an amazing long shot. I think we owe it to the game to make a clean, quick kill without ANY chance of wounding or losing it. Will it happen from time to time? Yes it will, but I still feel we have a right as hunters to make the best call we can before slinging an arrow or taking a shot with a rifle and trying to be 99.9% confident with the equipment and yourself. Nothing is garaunteed! I've seen buddies completely miss at less then 15 yards, and they practice all the time. Sometimes you just get excited or make a bad decision and that can be done at any distance.

I've killed quite a few animals with the rages and I can honestly say they make the largest holes I've ever seen. I've killed 2 bulls with them (both being complete pass throughs) in which they both died within eye sight. My only complaint is they will pop open inside your quiver even with the shock collars. Schwackers and gravediggers are my personal favorites. I would still recommend the rage for flight and massive wounds.

I was lucky enough to draw a archery goat tag this year and I'm curious to see what decoys work best (or if they are worth using). I've had several people say the "be the decoy" works great, but looking for more opinions. Thx

Thanks for all the advise guys! I ended up buying a Montana decoy from rageinthesage. Hopefully it will help get me within shooting distance of a good buck this year 😏

Ya, I've seen that on the sportsmans channel. I Just don't have a horse 😏. Pretty cool though.

In my personal opinion anyone who is so against mechanical broad heads has either not used one, or blamed a bad shot on the broad head "not opening". I've killed 3 bulls in the past 5 years with mechanicals and would not hesitate to do it again. My first 2 bulls I shot with the original rages and my last was shot with a swhacker. (34,50,51 yards) all were complete pass throughs and they all died with in eyesight. The rages make nasty holes! I did switch to the gravediggers recently because of the rages deploying in my quiver. That being said, when you make a bad shot with a broad head that makes huge holes, you gave a better chance of harvesting that animal then you do with a small hole 1 inch from a slick trick. However a heart or lung shot with any head will do the job.

Probably a havalon or a outdoor edge. I personally like the outdoor edge better.

Anyone have a CC hit that couldn't buy a license during the draw process?

That's how I did it, and I got a hit for goat! -
Starting over ... almost 8 years since I've shot
AZHUNTER05 replied to GTIMANiac's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Ross is second to none! Dave Bennett is probably the best bowtech in Arizona. -
I put in every year with no expectations of getting drawn so I'm not disappointed. However this year I about had a heart attack when I checked my credit card and found a pending charge for $90! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would pull a goat tag with only 5 points! I really think this draw system is more about luck then bonus points!
-
It would not have been our year either but my dad is getting older and wanted to hunt so I found the best unit that we could make the bonus pass on. If we would have put in for our normal choices we would have been waiting another 5+ years for the bonus pass. What is the bonus pass? I drew with 5 bonus pointts! I about had a heart attack when I saw the hit.

Does Working Out Help You Hunt Better?
AZHUNTER05 replied to firstcoueswas110's topic in The Campfire
It absolutely does! Plus if you keep in shape and eat healthy, you will hunt longer in life then the guy who doesn't. -
