    Spring Hunts

I bought my 2014 license on Dec 31st last year. So it is valid until Dec 31. Can I use this license to put in for the 2015 spring hunts? In the past you had to purchase a license that was valid for next year to apply for the spring hunts. Obviously I will have to have one to hunt next year, but want to wait until end of year to purchase new one.

    Quick help on regs

The definition as determined by the courts are a "maintained" road. This means that the road has to have regular and scheduled maintenance. This would include Freeways, Highways, paved roads, and dirt roads that are regularly maintained by the federal govt, state or a municipality. So any graded road is considered maintained. Two tracks are NOT included in this. In prior court cases, people cited for shooting from, across, or onto a two track, who actually retrieved the maintenance records for such roads had their citations thrown out. Now, Flatlander brings up a good point(grey area) in the rules. Where does the maintained roadway end and begin? A graded road is pretty simple...there is a small mound of dirt on both side left by the grader, step over that and you are off the road. But a paved road brings up lots of issues. Once you leave the pavement are you OK? What is the shoulder? Does the shoulder have to be maintained? And what about the land between the side of a highway and the right of way fence which is sometimes up to 100' from the road. My guess would be that if shoulder and drainage ditch are maintained (ie:; landscaped) you have to go beyond it. But it you step off of the pavement on a rural highway and are in 2' high grass(like hwy 83 below), I can't imagine them claiming you are on the road.

    Border units

Not sure what 520Hunt thinks but this is my take on it. I think the weapon of choice in Mexico has been and will always be the AK-47. The accessibility of the AK-47 is not in any way in short demand either. Also when you look at rebel groups around the world they tend to use the AK-47. It might come down not to accuracy, but to reliability. If your life depended on it and you saw two guns burried in the sand, which gun would you pick up and expect to fire over and over again without cleaning? Plus I'm sure price does factor into the equation... Sorry to start a AK-47 vs AR debate... just saying... I completely agree with you on everything you said but if they are US trained military gone rogue as stated previously I would figure they'd choose different. And as we know, with cartels, money and short supply don't exist. I'm not 100% sure, but the Mexican military and federal police use the Heckler & Koch G3, I would bet that is what they were trained on while at Fort Bennig. I think they are in the process of switching over to the FX-05 Xiuhcoati. But I haven't seen any with the new rifle on my trips down south ( I read somewhere that only Mex special forces use the FX-05) I do know from pictures in news articles I have seen some ARs that have been seized by US law enforcement, but the AK-47 is the major weapon I see.

    Pinal mountain this weekend

I am assuming that you reported this to game and fish and gave them a description of vehicle, license plate number, and description of the hunter... if not your just as guilty as the guy who was allegedly baiting...

    French squirrel kicker

This is hilarious that some on here are getting their panties in a wadd over a little squirell kicking fun. I think the Frenchie deserves some credit, he had to have been quick. I have tried to kick those pesky squirells but have never been quick enough. I did manage to kick a pigeon in the mall parking lot one time, funny stuff.

Did you lose a trail camera in Mt Bigelow area?

I would not trust the unit 33 Game Wardens. This sounds like the TV show, "To Catch a Predator". These guys are always out for the "sting" and wouldn't put it past them.
